Seeking identification and additional family information about the Mrs. McKenzie buried in 1922 at Shady Grove Cemetery in the Redland community of Nevada County, Arkansas.

MRS. McKENZIE – died 3-25-1922. This grave was not found during cemetery surveys and appears to be unmarked. A death notice appearing in the March 30, 1922 “Redland News” column of the Nevada News says: “Jno. McKenzie’s mother died at his home Saturday. Her remains will be interred at Shady Grove Cemetery on Monday.”

Note that Jno. McKenzie probably was the J. B. McKenzie referred to in the following “Nevada County Picayune” item on Dec 20, 1917: “Lost – One pair small work mules 8 to 10 years old. Strayed from J. B. McKenzie’s place, December 12. Please phone Will Hannah, M. L. Moore or Nat Martin [who all lived at Redland].”

Note also that the maiden name of Lula Riggs (wife of Sherman Riggs of Redland) was McKenzie / McKinzie, and she was born in 1900. It is feasible that the Mrs. McKenzie buried at Shady Grove is Lula’s mother or aunt. Lula’s siblings were Rosie, Leon, Floyd and Lee McKenzie. Lula‘s brother Leon is mentioned in a news item in the March 19, 1925 “Redland” community column of the “Picayune”: “Mr. Leon McKenzie and Miss Ellen Rogers were married Saturday.”
