Hi:

My great grandparents are listed as living in Montgomery County in Caddo on the 1910 census. John and Sarah C. Rose McCoy were from Wilkes County, North Carolina. They were in Texas about 1902. Now I find them in AR in 1910.
They are with two of their sons, James Wesley and David B. and two grand daughters. Many of my McCoys are buried in the Williams Cemetery in Smith County Texas. I am curious if anyone knows of any descendants of my John and Sarah who might be in AR especially Montgomery or surrounding counties. I am also trying to locate the burial place of John and Sarah McCoy possibly near Caddo Gap or wherever the town of Caddo would have been located.
Thanks,
Patricia Ruskauff

The Montgomery Co. AR cemetery book lists a Sulphur Springs Cemetery (originally Hutchinson Cem.) as being located 17 miles west of Norman, 3 1/2 miles NW off Hwy. 8.

GNIS has a Sulphur Springs church at about that location but doesn't have a Sulphur Springs cemetery listed. My county map book shows a church and cemetery together there. Is Sulphur Springs Cemetery associated with a church? If so, what is the full name of the church?

Thanks,
April Hoover
El Dorado, AR
The Rev W.G. Hilton performed the marriage ceremony for my Great Grandparents Rev. W.A. Fitzgerald of Point Cedar and Louise Jane Dillard of Amity, AR. The ceremony took place on Sept. 11, 1879. I think the ceremony may have been at the old Westlyan Chapel Methodist Church at Point Cedar but I have no real evidence of that. I'm trying to trace Rev. W.G. Hilton in hopes that I can learn at which church he may have been a minister. I know that my Great Grandmother Louisa may have attended the old Bethel Baptist Church near Glenwood, AR but one of her sisters and a brother (I think) were members of the Wesleyan Chapel Methodist Church. She met W.A. Fitzgerald when she attended church with her sister in 1878 or 79.
I appreciate any information to lead me to the identification of Rev. Hilton and his church. Rev. War Veteran, Virginia replacement to Fort Pitt. discharged Ft. Pitt 1776. Married: Mary Lee Merrifield b.abt 1758 Winchester, Frederick Co, VA, d.1830 Henry Co, KY. Eight(8) children: J. Boothe,Alexander, Clark, Lydia, George II, Greenup, Delilah, Hiram. I descend from Greenup. George and Family appear in census records Nelson Co, Kentucky and later in Henry and Oldham Co, Kentucky. The following Tucker line associated with it's earliest known ancestor residing in Anson/Randolph County,North Carolina:

William Tucker b.c1751 Randolph/Anson Co,NC d.c1811 Randolph Co, NC. Rev. war Veteran. Marriage and Wife unknown.
Jesse Tucker b. 1785 Randolph Co, NC d. 1863 Lawerence Co, Tenn. Marriage and Wife unknown.
Elza W. Tucker b. 1832 d. c1879 Montgomery Co, Arkansas. Believe jesse and Elza are sons of William. Other descendants of William are:

Jesse M. Tucker b.1860 Lawrence Co, Tenn d. 4 April 1930, Montgomery Co, Arkansas
Walter H. Tucker b.1883 d.28 Oct 1931 McCurtain Co, OK.
Jesse M. Tucker b. 1915 Montgomery Co, AR d. 19 Jan 1990 Los Angeles, Calif.

Were George and William first cousins? possibly, no proven records of male siblings to George. George's father I believe, was Richard Tucker b. abt 1720 poss. Maryland (no proven male siblings) death unknown, wife believed to be Elizabeth, maiden name unknown. Proven children of Richard and Elizabeth are : George and Phoebe Tucker. Phoebe married Richard Merrifield brother to Mary Lee Merrifield. The link that ties these 2 Tucker families could be that George and William were first cousins, or it may come before these two, possibly a brother to Richard that migrated into N.C. or even someone befor Richard. My goal is to try and fit the two lines together. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Reply to gtucker46@hotmail.com.

Thank You,

G.A. Tucker

In the early 1970s my aunt, Mary Earp Wood, her aunt, Bessie Earp Birmingham, and their cousin, Imogene Earp Hansberry were at the Scott/Wehunt Cemetery looking for Granny Earp's grave. In the same cemetery was a marker for a man's leg. Aunty Mary says his name was Elmer but I remember her saying his name was Sam. It has been thirty years, after all. My aunt would like to know more about this man and his leg. Who was this man and what is the story? I would appreciate any information.

Frances Earp Meyer

Recently I started working on my family tree and thought I'd look for "cousins" who might have more info than I do. My mother was a CRAWFORD, her father was Jack CRAWFORD born in 1901 near Black Springs, Arkansas to Harriet COX b. 1875 and George Fleming CRAWFORD b. 1870. I show George Fleming CRAWFORD's parents as John W. CRAWFORD and Nancy Elizabeth BATES.
I have Harriet COX's father listed as Moses Charnock COX, her mother as Harriet Margaret JEFFERY.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?
I'm also going to post on the Polk County board since there was lots of movement between the two counties.
Thanks!

Tucker Family in early to mid 1800s in Arkansas?

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
I have some questions I hope someone can help with. I would like to come to Montgomery County to research two separate lines of my husband's family. Where are the best places to go to accomplish this? I have been told that the libraries in the area have very little. Is this true? Is there a genealogical society or a historical society that can help me. Or is there a way I can find someone to contact in that area that might be able to help me? Please - any suggestions would be most helpful in scheduling a trip. Thanks so very much!!

Who can I contact in order to obtain copies of some of these, especially one of the old Black Springs school and group when it was located at the spring, about 1930.
One of the pictures I want is on page 462 of the Montgomery County, 'Our Heritage' Vol. 1. I am willing to pay someone to make a good copy of the originals and send them to me. Thank you..........

Harold Cowart in FL

I am searching for information on the Samuel Scott family of Mt. Ida, Montgomery County, Arkansas. I know that Samuel Scott married a Mary Merridith or Merredith. My grandfather, John Wilson Scott, left home at any early age and moved to Garrett's Bluff, Lamar County,Texas. He had a sister named Mary, who married a William VanDyke, who also moved to Texas, he also had brothers named Rush and Chilt. I believe that he had sisters named Belle, Dove and Lilly. Lilly possibly married a Meredith and I believe that Belle married a Warneke and Dove married a Hixson.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
My ancestor, Jasper McDuffy, states in his pension papers that he lived in Cedar Glades, Mont. CO., AR from 1868-1874. I was wondering what township that it was in.

I cannot find him in Mont. Co. in the 1870 census and thought if I looked at everyone in that township I might find him living with someone.

I am trying to find my Ancestor Jasper N. McDuffy/McDuffie in the 1870 Montgomery CO. census. I have his pension file and a letter written by himself states that he lived in Mont. CO. from 1868-1874.

There are several letters in his pension file from the KING family. A John H. King states that he has known Jasper since the beginning of the Civil War and that he lived with his father before and after the war. Jasper married Sarah Deron in 1868 in Mont. CO. I am wondering if he was living with the KING family. Another letter was from a Eli P. King.

ANy help appreciated finding that Jasper actually WAS there!

Mt Ida 1968 MIHS band book

I stumbled on a scrapbook given to a Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Green. It has several pictures of a marching band and individuals (students and adults). Then it has letters and news articles about the start of the Mt Ida H.S. band in 1968, led by Mr. Charles Green, who moved to Mt Ida after retiring from work in Ohio and Indiana. Mr. Green's 2 daughters are listed as Mrs. Charles Jones of Galion, Ohio, and Mrs. Imar Thomson of San Francisco. Mrs. Green was a music teacher at the school. The book lists all the members of the band during 3 years of practice sessions and concerts, from grade 4 to 10. Mr. Green left the band in spring of 1970, his letter of notice is on the last page. I would like to find a more suitable home for this book, and will do lookups while I have it. Please contact me if interested bbauer@blazenetme.net

Mauldin existed from about 1922 to 1933 and was once a thriving little company town with a company store called the 'Commissionary", business office, church, seven month one-room school, accommodation house, picture show and post office. Located between Pencil Bluff and Mt Ida it was established to house the workers and the mill.

Can anyone tell me where to find additional information on this town. I have located my grandfather's brothers in the 1930 Census living in the town of Mauldin. Does anyone know if there are any records pertaining to the employees who lived and worked for this company??

My email address is cathygallen@qwest.net

Thank you Cathy

I am researching the following surnames in Montgomery County, Arkansas. WHEELER,SMITH,SCOTT,GASTON,GOODNER AND McCONNELL. I would like to correspond with anyone who is also researching these names. Samuel and Malvina Smith were the parents of John Guilford "Buddy" Smith, who married Martha Gaston, daughter of James Bullock Gaston and Lucinda McConnell of Montgomery County, AR. Lucinda McConnell was the daughter of Robert McConnell and Sarah ? McConnell of the same county. My grandfather, Guilford "Ross" Smith, son of John Guilford and Martha Smith, married Mary "Molly" Scott, daughter of Rev. Riley Jack Scott, son of Thomas Scott and Rutha Wheeler. Rutha was the daughter of John A. Wheeler and Millie Amelia Mayes/Maze.
FW Jordan + Nellie Pennington>EvaLee & James Monroe Jordan

I have a lost relative from Cedar Glades AR (Montgomery Co.)

My grandfather, James Monroe Jordan (1915 - 1996) was the son of Nellie Pennington Parker Jordan Balisle. She was married to a Lisnon A."Quill" Parker in the 1910 census and had several children. She then married a "F.W. Jordan" 10-22-1911. They had Evalee in 1913 and my grandfather in 1915. In the 1920 census, Nellie is married to Frank Balisle and my grandfather is listed as 4 7/12 years old and a stepson.

No one is alive that can help me. Family lore is that "F.W. Jordan" went by "Willoulby" (sp? which is on my Grandfather's death certificate), however "Wilburn" is on my Grandfather's delayed birth certificate. He died between 1915 and 1920 in Montgomery Co., AR and was probably born between 1874-1885 in either Arkansas or Louisiana.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you connect to this family or have inf on any of them, please contact me at gfrc35@hotmail.com. Thanks, Fran

Was yours a preacher for 50 years? And from Big Fork? Ms. Williams has the cem on her land in Big Fork. Very very nice lady and a Bates also. I talked with her when I was doing 911 testing in the area. I do not have the dates because I am not at home. I am in D.C. testing 911. You can see her white house from the main highway there. You turn right on the farm road at her house and go half a block and it is on the left up on a small hill. It is the only one with a nice grave stone. He would be the generation of our grandfather father. About 1876. Because this one if the brother of the Ggrandfather. And also the son of George V. Bates.

I am looking for information on Koger Aldridge. He was born around 1859 or 1860 in Lamar or Fayette County, Alabama or possibly Gattman, MS. His mother was Telitha Rehama Box. He possibly moved to Arkansas. I have found his name listed as being from Hempstead, Howard, Montgomery, Nevada, Pike, Polk, or Sevier counties in Arkansas. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

MINTON-Julie AR/GARLAND/MONTGOMERY COUNTIES

Great grandmother was Julie Minton and supposedly she married an Ed Breshears prior to 1905. Julie married a David Robertson in 1905 and marriage license shows both were from Gladstone, Garland County. Julie is listed as Julie Minton Breshears on marriage license with Robertson, but efforts to positively identify Ed Breshears and their union has failed. Any assistance would be appreciated. Also, have been unable to locate any marriage or divorce records on Minton-Breshears union, or death records on Ed Breshears in the area. Thanks.
