Thanks for checking -- sometimes not finding something can point you in another direction!
The obituary was a copy on a family member's website; she typed it from an old newspaper clipping that I didn't see, yet she shared it.
I got the death date for Permelia Mann Smith Cunningham from a widow's pension application, and her son, my g-grandfather, had written a letter announcing she was "killed" in July 1910. He had to provide this letter to the pension board. I find it strange that he wrote "killed", as that would make me think it was an accident or something else -- ie. not of natural causes. Of course, this misses the 1914 cutoff for state records. Thanks again for your help.
