Joseph Elijah DAVIS son of Andrew DAIVIS and Mary WALKER. (Would like more info on parentage) Joseph married Elizabeth BATES dau. of Thomas Jefferson and Dicey Ryder BATES. My great-grandfather was Joseph's brother Jefferson DAVIS and was married to Elizabeth's sister Mary A. who first married a WEHUNT before 1860. Mary A BATES WEHUNT DAVIS is found 1850 and 1870 living with and by her parents Thomas and Dicey in Montg. Co., AR. Her children are Caldonia and William WEHUNT. 1870 she is living with the children and two of her brothers-and Sam Riley.
Mary A. BATES WEHUNT DAVIS is missing from many genealogy records I have seen. I believe TJ and Dicey's dau Mary A BATES married Eli M. Wehunt 1859 Montg. Co., Ar. but I see others think differently
I do not have Mary A. or her family 1860 census. I have been told Eli M. Wehunt married Mary A.E. BATES dau of Wm F. BATES. Question: If Eli is not the father of William born abt 1860-61 and Caldonia, WHO was there father ? I would love to get more info to either prove or disprove this. The two WEHUNT children are listed as DAVIS 1880 Garland Co., AR. I have seen info showing a Shirley Robbins Dunaway has written an article on BATES/EDWARDS & DAVIS families in volume 2 History of Montgomery Co. AR. I would like to get in contact with her to share my info and see if she can help me further in my search. Also, Betty Jane Edwards Bradley and Ida Breitenstein both have articles the same book. I also have info on Joseph Elijah Davis b. 1846 and his mother Mary Walker Davis on the 1860 census. I will share this info to anyone who is interested. In the mist if solving the DAVIS puzzle.
