I am searching for information on Jim CHASTAIN married to Annie HOUSER. I was told they had 3 sons, James J. b: 3-3-1885 Blackton, Monroe, AR. d. 4-2-1942 Holly Grove, AR. Lorenzy D. b: 11-24-1888 Blackton, Monroe, AR. married Massie G. GARNER. Lorenzy died 6-30-1973 Holly Grove, AR. They had 11 children, Doris, Hazel, Jewel,Virginia, Sadie, Earl, Thomas, Bill Jim, Hilton, Calvin Ray, Stanley. Any information on this family line would be greatly appreciated. I know nothing about James J. family or the name of the 3rd. son. Many thanks!

Swindle, Cobb and Williams in Monroe County - 1840s

In the 1840 Monroe County census, Enoch Swindle and his family are listed on the same page as David Cobb and his family.

By 1850, I believe these two families had merged and were living together, with some Williams children added to the family.

We are specifically interested in David Swindle, born around 1836 and listed as one of the sons of Enoch in the 1850 census.

Would love to know the connection between the Cobb and Swindle families during this time.

In 1870 my David Daniel HOOD & family lived in Richlands Township, Cotton Plant post office. What's odd is that in 1860 his father, John Robert HOOD lived in St. Francis County in Richlands Township, Cotton Plant post office. Did the county lines overlap at some point?

I am not aware of who John D. King's parents were and only that Malinda Plunkett King's father was as stated above. Her mother is still unknown.

is there any way to look up deaths in Monroe Co for the years 1866-1870? My Pennington family is in Monroe Co in 1860, Edwin,Sarah and children.(listed as Bennington at Ancestry.com and listed as Pennington at the Monroe Co site) I find them again in 1870 in Independence co without the parents, a Son Benjamin as HOH and another child Sarah C. Pennington 4 years old. Both parents must have died between 1866-1870. Any ideas where I might find this information. Samuel H. DENTON and wife Lille (surname unknown), residence in 1910 was Clarendon, ARK. per the 1910 census, his step-mother's (Mary M. SPRAY) obituary from 1910, and father's obit. from 1916.

Samuel was born about 1870 in Indiana to parents John M. DENTON and Martha "Nettie" STRATTON. Samuel's mother died in 1879 when he was only 8 years old, and he went to live with his Aunt Mahala (STRATTON) and Uncle Oliver HOLLINGSWORTH while his father worked on a mill (as found in the 1880 census).

Samuel had two sisters, Florence "Flora" Jane DENTON-HOLCOMB and Prudence DENTON. He also had two half-brothers, Claude and Earl "Coxey" DENTON.

In the 1910 census, Samuel has a wife named Lillie.. no surname. Can anyone connect to this family in any way? I'd love to hear from you...

My father's great-aunt Freddie Jimerson married a Thomas C. Simmons. I have found them in the 1900 census for Monroe County, and that they were living in Brinkley TWP.

Thomas was about 30 at the time; Freddie May was two years younger. He and his parents were born in Tennessee, according to the census; she was born in Mississippi (Marshall County, by best accounts), but her parents were also Tennessee-born.

Living with them in 1900 was a small (5 years old) nephew, Bald (? Eild?) Jimerson (Freddie's maiden name). The nephew was born in Arkansas, but his father was Mississippi-born.

In 1910, they're still in Brinkley; the nephew is gone but now a niece, 10-year old May Simmons is with them. May was born, acc to the census record, in Tennessee, while her parents were born in Mississippi.

Further than this, I don't know. My father (who was born in 1902) knew the family and apparently his often visited (he was named for this Aunt Fredie). I'd love to know more about the Simmonses -- when they died and where they are buried.

My question is does either one of these records show who the mother of Laura is? Is there a way to get a copy of these marriage records? I am trying very hard to find who is the correct mother of Laura Angeline is- She is said to been born in Monroe County, Arkansas - on 11/28/1852 or 11/28/1853. These two dates are from two different sources.

I am looking for information about James A. Patterson and his family. I know his father was James who lived in Philadelphia and then York , Pa where James A. was born. According to Felix Negley "The Patterson family is descended from one of the Pilgrims ... The family lived in Massachusetts for several generations until James moved to Philadelphia. " I am trying to verify this information. Negley also talks about this family as owning large tracts on the South Branch of the Potomac, and as they were the first settlers of that region, the family name was given to Patterson Creek and also to Patterson Creek Mountain. I am seeking information on Susan KITTS b. abt 1824 who was married to Jacob McBRIDE. They had a daughter Prudence McBRIDE who was married to T. L. GIBSON and latter to John COX.
Susan had a brother John F. "Constable" KITTS. There is a marriage record for John F. KITTS married to Mary Ann KILLGORE. But on the 1860 census for Monroe CO., he is living without Mary. In the 1870 census he is married to Rachel and with children. I found a marriage record also for Prudence McBRIDE marrying T. L. GIBSON. They are also on the 1870 census as newlyweds. I was wondering if there is a marriage record for Susan KITTS marrying Jacob McBRIDE. I feel that Jacob was born in Monroe Co., ARK. Any information on any of these people would be greatly appreciated. Susan KITTS and John F. KITTS were born in Kentucky.

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. I've searched and searched but cannot find any info on my g-g-father's death (D A Ragsdale, b. 1845 TN) that supposedly occurred in Clarendon AR, in the late 1890s or early 1900s. He had a grocery store and family in Waco TX, where they had moved to from NW Arkansas in the late 1880s.

I've checked USGenWeb, the Monroe County AR sites, the online cemeterary listings, etc., but cannot find any account of his death or burial place. He must have been traveling to visit family in the area at the time, best I can figure, maybe a sibling who was ill, since the rest of his family was still in Waco TX.

I KNOW for a fact that Solomon Steffey and his wife Helen were living in Monroe co., Arkansas at the time of the 1900 census...But have not been able to find them in the census. (He filed for his civil war pension from there in 1905 that state he lived there since 1897)

He lists the town he lives in as INDIAN BAY, but there is no township listed as that in the 1900 census. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I should start me search!!

4. Rosa L. 03 daughter ARK
5. Ella 11 sister ARK
6. Sallie D. 08 sister ARK
While living in Franklin Co. TX, Greenlee & Eliza had 3 other children:
1. Lillie b. 31 July 1880 (my great-great grandmother) m. Ivy Leonard BROWN 1907 Lamar Co. TX
2. Willie b. 23 April 1883
3. Grace b. 11 Nov 1885 m. Harold KOYS (last known to be living in Ft. Worth, TX.)
They also had a son named Bud, no known birth date, last known to be living in Freestone Co. TX.

I am trying to get information on an Ida or Frank Martin. They were husband and wife and I am not sure the date they were married. Ida eventually had three children (two daughters and a son) all are not Franks. They are african-american. Ida eventually moved to Hubert/West Memphis Arkansas.

STEFFEY's in Monroe Co., in 1910

I just found my husband's gr-gr-grandfather and his wife in the 1910 Census of Monroe Co. They were in Montgomery twp. at the time. Solomon Steffey b.1842 in PA. and lived most of his life in IOWA, in fact until today I assumed he died and was buried there. His wife was Helen Macumber and she was born in Wisconsin in 1846. She too spent most of her life in IOWA. In 1910 all of there known children are living in IOWA....I wonder why they were in Arkansas??? Solomon was a blacksmith by trade. I wonder if they would have come for a job or something??

I can't find tthem in the 1920 census...I assume that they have both died by then. (they would have both been in there 70's by then.

Did you grow up in Holly Grove? If so, I'd like to hear from you. I'm looking for stories, copies of newspaper clippings, and copies of photos about life in Holly Grove, AR. They can be from any time period. Stories relating to the history of the area would be ideal, but I'd also love to have funny and interesting stories about peoples' high school experiences, local ballgames, weddings, funerals, birthday parties, community churches, community get-togethers, restaurants,
stores, favorite hangouts, bridge parties (my grandparents loved to play bridge, so I know bridge parties were common at one time)...anything you can think of and want to share! I'd also love old photos and newspaper clippings of ballgames, town parades, Christmases and other holidays past, church plays, etc. I'm going to compile all of the information into some kind of book form (I haven't figured out exactly how I'm going to do that yet, but I'm working on it). Your name will be attached to whatever you contribute, unless otherwise requested. Also, I don't want any original documents or photos - only copies.

I'm trying to locate any descendents of any of these siblings...they may have had more but these are all I've found at the present. They descend from a Mollie West Sadler and she was the daughter of Marion Grant and Lula Unknown West. I've gotten copies of several old photos from the West family while they lived in Mammoth Spring, AR and I sure would love to visit any descendents..............especially since I'm in Prairie County........

JANETTE LAKE, 95, of Grand Terrace died Monday, April 4, 2005 at Placentia Linda Hospital. Janette, a native of Clarendon, Arkansas, lived in Grand Terrace for 17 years. She was a credit clerk for Dunn and Bradstreet for 20 years. Survivors include her son, Don of Orange Co8unty, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, April 8 from 10 to noon at Montecito Mortuary in Loma Linda. Graveside service will be same day, noon, at Montecito Memorial Park.

Hi My Dad lived in Brinkley for years. Do you live anywhere around there? You cant really miss it once you get in to town. You are on the main drag you are on main st.the town is not very big.
