Ivy Adams Family--Joiner or Bassett Area

I am looking for information on IVY ADAMS of the Joiner or Bassett area. ADAMS is her married name. I do not have the name of her husband. It is possible that some of her family still live in the area, as she lived and raised eight children there and, I believe they engaged in cotton farming. Ivy may have had at least one of her sisters living in the same area, although, I'm sure they were born in Missouri. Her sister, Clara, was born in 1885, if this time-line helps. Her sister, Clara, married a "Cagle" and, several years after his death, she married "Frank Cannon", of the Joiner, AR area, although, she died in Kennett, MO and is buried in Paragould, AR. What I really would like to know---is the name of Ivy's parents or her maiden name--should anyone here be from that area or that family. All help is appreciated, as I think that she may be my great-aunt and the half-sister to my grandfather, Ernest Duty. I don't know when they might have lived there, however, it could have been from the early 1900's, and, possibly members of this family are still there. Does anyone have access to burial records for the cemeteries in Osceola? I am looking for information of the following individuals -
Harriet Pounds Kinney, William H. Pounds, Elizabeth Pounds Smith, Harrison B. (H.B.) Smith, Julia Pounds Sherick, Imogene Barney, and John Barney. I have Imogene Barney's obit from the Osceola Times in May 1907 and it states she is buried in the city cemetery. I suspect the others may be also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for information about Margaret "Maggie" Carter who 1st married a Gorden or Gordan with a son named Clyde Gorden. She later married a Denbow and had more children and lived in Arkansas. Her sister's names were Clara (1930 living in Stoddard, Missouri) and Lila (1930 living in Madison,Illinois). Father James B Carter also lived in Arkansas until he moved to Stoddard County, Missouri near Clara.
I see in the 1930 census of Mississippi County, a John Denbow with wife Maggie and children Allen, Dora, John, and Eddie with step children Clyde and Jesse Gorden.
Any help would be appreciated.

Their first daughter together was named Faye Erlene Hart, b. 7 Nov 1933 in Osceola, Mississippi County, Arkansas. Anyone with information is greatly appreciated and it is very much needed!

I am looking for info on Elizabeth, Augustus Madison, Wyley V, and Thomas Jefferson Bolding. I am also interested in their mother, Lucy Bolding, and who she might have been married to. As luck would have it, the state has lost the death cert for Thomas, who died on 21 Dec 1925 in Osceola. Augustus died in the same city Sept 1908...the other's are lost in time.

My new angle is to find all Osceola funeral homes that may have assisted in the preparation and burial of the two Bolding men. Can any provide me with that information? Any tid bit of infor is GREATLY appreciated.

This Bolding family lived next to Andrew P Bolding in Frankling Co Alabama...then moved onto Mississippi Co. A most difficult bunch to find!

Sherwood/Lee information

I'm seeking information pertaining to the marriage of a Doctor Sherwood and ? Lee. Dr. Sherwood was a surgeon in the Civil War and a married his nurse that worked with him during the war. Her last name was Lee. I believe they settled in Mississippi county after the Civil War. The information I have indicates that they had at least three children; Oscar, Carrie, and Dorci Sherwood. Oscar Sherwood became a constable somewhere in Arkansas and married Merle Landers. Oscar and Merle had two children; Cecil and Josephine Sherwood. Carrie Sherwood married Andy Maynor and they had atleast one child - Addie Maynor. Addie was my grandmother. She died somewhere near Boyton Arkansas about 1917. She was about 25 years old at the time of her death. In her old age, my Great Great grandmother, Miss Lee lived with Dorci Sherwood (or her married name) until her death in the 1930's or 1940's. She was naer 100 years old at the time of her death. I'm seeking the following information: Dr. Sherwood and his wife- where was they born?, their first names, their parents names, and when they died. Also any information about Addie Maynor would be most helpful. Thank you

Alma Gum Obit Lookup

I have SSDI information that an Alma Gum, b. Missouri 09 Feb 1898 died in Mar 1982 in Mississippi County, Arkansas. Is there anyone out there who could take some time and see if an obit on this Alma Gum could be located? An Elvis A. Hill, b. 18 Jun 1889 in Missouri, was living in Leachville in 1942, when he registered for the draft from that location. I am hoping to find someone with information on him, his family, when and where he died.

Elvis A. Hill is the older brother of Alma A. Hill, who married William Owen Gumm, who may have also been in the Leachville area about that same time.

Mr. Hill mentions a T. O. Wilkins on his draft registration card as someone with contact information for him. Anyone with information on this T. O. Wilkins would also be appreciated.

My grandmother's name was Gladys Marie Grimes - Born February 6, 1911 in Blytheville, Ar., she married Ira Lee Jones - Born August 11, 1902, they lived at Gosnell when I was young. My Great Grandmother's name was Lannie Pinkerman - Born September 13, 1879, I think she was from Tennessee. She married William Martin Grimes and I have no infomation on him. I know that Grandma Grimes lived with my Grandmother when I was young at Gosnell. My Grandmother had 3 brothers that lived at Gosnell, their names were John Ed Grimes, Tom Grimes and Burl Grimes. African American McKinney Family of Marshall Co MS

I am looking for the ancestors and descendents of Henry and Harriet Echols McKinney of Byhalia MS (or nearby). I suspect that Henry had a brother named Solomon, who was listed in his 1876 marriage bond.

Henry and Harriet had the following children: Della (b. 1878), Rena (b.1879), Arthur (1881-1960) Gable (b. 1886), Sylvester (b. 1860), Luther (b. 1893), Susie (b. 1894) and Haywood (b. 1897).

Currently, we are not in contact with the descendents of Luther McKinney. All that I know about him is that he married Luanna (b. 1899) and they had a daughter named Martha (b. 1916) per the 1920 Census report.

Family oral history indicates that some McKinneys may have relocated to Blytheville AR, and Hayti MO.

Bassett Cemetary

Looking for information on family members burried there. Sim Millard Aycock, and Ned Teeples. I lived in that area and have been to the cemetary several times. The only thing is my grandfather Sim has no headstone. Ned Teeples does and I saw it when I was a child but was unable to find it when I went back there. Also the Sprayberry, Easley, Williamson, Ward, Gude and Holder just to mention a few more. The only definate ones I know burried in Bassett are Sim Aycock and Ned Teeples. I need to know any information on Sim because my father was a small child when he died and does not remember when. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The time frame would have been about 1890-1893 . The steamboat could have possibility came from Illinois ( Cario) to New Orleans Than on to AR.

I am searching for information on the family of John A. and Nora (BUNCH)ROBERTS who was living in Little River, Miss. Co., AR in 1930. John A. was 52 years old, born about 1878 in AR. Nora was 49 years old and born about 1881 in AR. The census says they had been married for about 26 years.

I have no idea who John's parents were or who Nora's parents were. I have no idea where they married or where they came from. I know that in 1920 they were living in Barron Township in Jackson Co., AR and this is all I have on them so far. I would also like to know when they died and where they were buried.

I think they might have moved to Des Arc, Prairie Co., AR later but not sure. I haven't been able to find any information on them there.

I would appreciate any and all information on this family. John and Nora were my grandmother's (Dovie Jane Roberts Vaulner) parents.

I am searching for information on John Washington Starling and Sallie Ann(Hood) Starling. Goodspeeds History of Northeast Arkansas states that they came to Arkansas "at a very early period", and were "natives of North Carolina and Tennesee respectively." They settled in Columbia County Arkansas and had at least two children there. Thomas H. Starling, b. 1851 and Sarah Ann Starling, b. 1855.

The Civil war forced a move, in 1863, to the northern part of Missouri. In 1866 the family returned to Arkansas VIA a one year trip on a flatboat on the Mississippi River. They finally settled at a place called Cross Bayou (two miles east of Joiner) in Mississippi County Arkansas.

Does anyone know where, in North Carolina and Tennesee these two immigrated from?

I am the niece of Annabel Bryant Fill. Annabel was the public health nurse for Mississippi County for a number of years, and died in the late 70's in Blytheville. She is buried at the Veterans' Cemetery in Little Rock, AR.

Annabel had one son, JOHN BRYANT FILL, who died in the mid 80's in Illinois. I know that he was married when his mother died, but do not know his wife's name.

If anyone could find out this information, I would be very pleased. Also, if anyone has any memories of my aunt, Annabel Bryant Fill, and would be willing to share them, I will put them in the family history I am compiling.

John was married to Adline Aker when they movied to Manila and she died in 1906, John Married Mary G. she also went by the name Maude and she died 1938. John was borned in Tn in 1858, d 1941 and is buried in Manila Cemetery. My Grandpa Don Thomas was borned in TN 1894, died in 1963 and buried in Manila Cemetery. Grandpa Don Thomas was married to Lizzy Kinciad 1916, grandma was b. 1896 d. 1988 buried in Manila Cemetery. They had nine children and the names are: Georgia Lee b. 1918, Ida Louis b. 1920, Drucilla Adline b. 1922, Charles Wesley b. 1924, John Jefferson b. 1926, Andrew Don b.1928, James Matthew b. 1930 (my father), Jannie Ester b. 1933, Daniel Dotson b. 1936.

My grandmother Ellen Dodson married Gus Morris in 1913, later on she married R.W. Morris . I have a picture that has Roof Morris I assume the R stands for Rufus , I have her marriage Oct 29 1929 to R.W. Morris it has he was from Flint Michigan. I have no clue as to This R.W. Morris.Did he have children? Who was he? any clue?
Gus Morris , my grandfather was born in March of 1889 in Caldwell Co Ky . He died in 1920 in Cardwell Mo. Ellen and Gus had one child my father Ethridge Morris aka Shorty.

I recently found out from a Bible record that my grandmother, Laura Patterson HATLEY was buried in Manila, AR, grave #4.64 in Jan of 1911. I would like to know the name of the cemeteries and funeral homes in Manila, Mississippi, AR so that I may find out where that grave is. This was a surprise to me since the last known residence I had for her was in Braggadocio, MO and felt like she had been buried there. Hello,

I’m curious if any local papers in Mississippi County also served the ‘boot heel’ region of Missouri. I’ve been unable to locate obituaries for relatives that died in the areas of Holland, Steele and Cooter between 1900-1928 in Missouri. Since Blytheville was the nearest major city, is it possible they would have run obits for those areas?

I’m also looking for an obituary for my 3rd great grandfather, who died in 1917 around Marie or Carson Lakes. Could someone please advise which paper would have likely served the area, and which library has the microfilm?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

All I have on his death is from the Arkansas Death Index. Which he died, November 16, 1931 in Mississippi County, Arkansas.

Its possible his name was Robert C. Have some confusing information.

POW/MIA Korean War, Mississippi Co. SANDERS

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Mississippi County, Arkansas as his home of record.

Soldier: WILLIAN LUM SANDERS
Born: June 5, 1924. Caucasian
Date of loss: November 30, 1050. MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 17 families in Arkansas that have not been located. There is one family from Mississippi County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

My ggrandmother was Minerva Jane Ashabranner born 1856 in AR or MO. Her parents were Essais and Jane (Killian?) Ashabranner. I have never been able to connect definitively Essais to any other Ashabranners. Minerva and her husband, Samuel Rice Jones, lived in Manila (Big Lake Township) in 1880. My grandmother, RosaBelle, was 5 months old. It is possible that Essais' mother was a Bollinger but I have no proof. Essais died in the civil war, Jane re-married (?) a Chambers and they had a child named Elberta.
Essais and Jane also lived in MO (Stoddard County, elsewhere) with other Ashabranners around them.
Does anyone have anything regarding Essais, or possible connections?
