Bassett Cemetery is the high ground of the area, which is a very important thing when living in a flood prone area such as Mississippi County. My dad was born in Keiser, and his LEE, HINES, and PORTIS family is buried at Bassett Cemetery. They said that was where people took their livestock when the land flooded. I too have seen some stones out in the farmer's fields, one of the local farmers showed me around one day. Most of the burials are on the higher ground of the fields.
As for the name PORTER, there are two Porters buried in the "old side" of Bassett Cemetery.
Agnes Wright PORTER 12/9/1893 5/8/1957
Gaytha PORTER 3/7/1889 8/5/1943
