HELP NEEDED! LOOKING FOR SON ROBERT CLARK SON OF DORIS MANHATTAN CLARK AND WIFE CALLIE OR CAROLINE LISTON

LOOKING FOR THIS ROBERT CLARK OR DESCENDANTS.......ROBERT CLARK IS THE SON OF DORIS MANHATTAN CLARK AND CALLIE OR CAROLINE LISTON......

I also called the funeral home in LOUISANIA who handled Callie Clark and they said Callie and DM are buried together in the Old Crowley Cemetery on the Protestant Side. They were nice but it was a little difficult because they only began keeping decent records in the late 1960's! They assured me that there was not a website, phone or person who I could contact at the Old Cemetery and that the City Hall takes care of it. The only reason they had what they had was some lady walked through and listed the names for them. They DID say that Callie's survivor in 1941 was her son Robert Clark of Texarkana, Arkansas. He's probably dead by now but I have to start researching him now! They had nothing on DM except that he was buried with her.

Crowley is between Lafayette and Lake Charles, LA.

The WWI Draft Registration gives his date of birth as 3/1/1876.

I did find information on his wife, Callie. Her name was Caroline Liston who was born 7/1878 in Mississippi. I located her family beginning in 1850 in Choctaw Co., MS. They were there in 1860 and 1870, too. By 1880, the family was in Attala Co., MS and in 1900 and 1910 they were in Acadia Parish, LA. Callie's father was William T. Liston, bn 1/1847 in Alabama. His wife was Fanny [Unknown] who was born 10/1849 in MS. William's parents were Martin Liston, ca 1799, VA and Elmina Caroline [Unknown], bn ca 1818 in GA. By 1870, Martin Liston was apparently deceased. In 1910, William T. Liston was remarried. Fanny apparently died between 1900 and 1906. In 1910, William was the owner of a shop in Acadia Parish. Some of Callie's siblings were Ora, Luella [married a Wyatt], Martin, Dessie [?] and Albert. Siblings of William Liston were Henry, Robert C. Susanah T., Mary, Martin and Hiram J.

DORIS MANHATTAN CLARK WAS MARRIED TO FIRST WIFE ANNA IN LOUISVILLE, JEFFERSON COUNTY, KY......

WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE RELATED OR COULD HELP WITH THIS......

I am searching for the grave of my ggGrandfather, John Ceborn Tidwell Born:About 1835 in Georgia. He was the son of Milton J. Tidwell and his Mothers name was Sarah Blanton. He also had a brother named Asberry/Asbury Tidwell. I have been told he died in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1886, but that he was buried not far from Texarkana. Many years ago my Mother told me that some distant relatives had found his grave, so I know he must have a tombstone. If you have any information I would really appreciate it.
SEEKING MICAJAH STONE INFORMATION

Micajah Stone was born in SC c1828. He married a woman named Tempe there and had several children. They show up on 1860 and 1870 census records of Anderson Co. SC, among other Stones of my own family line. Micajah emigrated c1872 from Anderson Co. SC to Miller Co. AR, along with sons John A. and Samuel P. and Marion Stone + others. Micajah shows up on the 1880 Miller Co. AR census with a new wife named Charlotte. They do not appear in 1900, leading to an assumption that Micajah died before that census. Most of the children show up in subsequent census records, living among Stones of my family in TX. I'm trying to figure out if there is a blood connection, but need more information on Micajah. In my family line there are several Micajahs, Samuels, and Marions, which lend further suspicion of a family link. If anyone can provide me with an obituary, burial record, or any other documentation of Micajah Stone, my family would be greatly in your debt.
Contact me at:

Steve.Stone@supshipgc.navy.mil

Many thanks!

Steve Stone
Pascagoula MS

Graves of Eliza Ann Browder and Children

I am searching for information on the graves of Eliza Ann Browder and her 4 children. She and her husband, Martin Van Buren Browder, left Florida and headed to Texas about 1874. Allegedly, Eliza and 4 children died of swamp fever along the way. I can find no documentation, explaination nor reasoning as to why they were in Arkansas. Family lore says that Martin buried his wife and 4 children in a "common grave" and fenced it off with cypress wood. He then continued on to Texas with his young daughter Belle Matilda. No word as to weather or not he left any other defining information on the grave.

Thanks,

Vickie
MBrowder53190@aol.com
I am researching John Bunyan Williams. He is buried in the State Line Cemetery. Stone says he was b in 1874 (I believe in Alabama.)and died in 1949. His wife Mable, Mabel, Mabelle, (Maiden name Crutchfield) is buried across the line in Texas. Their 3 children John Allen, Randolph, and J B (just initials) are all buried in the same cemetery as their mother. There is a Marjo (Margy Marjorie) (maiden name Landes) also buried there that I believe is the wife of J B. Does anyone know anything about this family? I think John Bunyan's father might also be in that area but I don't know who he is!!
Thanks
Pat
in Oklahoma

There is also a younger woman in the pix, maybe the West's daughter. They may have lived near Fouke. I will be happy to share these photos.

Asa Reid and other family are supposed to be burried in "Holly Springs Cemetery" in Conway Arkansas by my records. I have been researching "Holly Springs Cemetery" and find no less than 3 different locations in Arkansas for cemeteries with that name. I'm hoping someone can help me with directions or gps coordinates for the correct "Holly Springs Cemetery" where Asa and Winney and other Reid ancesters are located.

Can anyone suggest why there are no Mothersheds to be found on the 1920 census in Sulphur, Miller Co? The same families were there in 1910 and 1930. I've checked just plain AR, as well as LA, OK, TX and cannot find these families anywhere (James/Doshia Mothershed with numerous children).

I can see a census taker missing a family, but not several families! Very unusual.

Thanks so much, Donna from California

Elizabeth Ann (Bess or Bessie) Carter Smith Carson (12/7/1897).

I've made some great breakthroughs in my research. I'm hoping that some of this might look familiar to someone. Please contact me if you have any information that you think might be related to Bess, her parents, etc. My email is: jeshistory@gmail.com

Thanks!

Jamie Smith
jeshistory@gmail.com

Here's what I know:

Name: Elizabeth Ann Carter, later Smith, later Carson
Born: 12/7/1897 (or 1898) [SSDI]
Died: 3/16/1967 in Michigan [SSDI]

Marriage One: James Elias Smith, approx 1918 [JES WWI draft card]

Marriage Two: Alfred Ray Carson, approx 1940 [Port Arthur News, June 1940]

1900 Census: Bess lived in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas. Lived with father W. Sherman Carter (b. July 1865), his mother Ann (b. Feb. 1832), siblings: Clara (Nov.? 1891), Matilda (Sept. 1892), Myrtle(?) (May 1895). Lists no mother, which makes me think that Bess' mother had died by then.

1910 Census: Bess lived in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas. Lived with father W. Sherman Carter, his wife Ada M., and her siblings: Clara (18?), Tillie (16), William (5), James (3), Richard (2), Kelley (sp?)(1). All of the children were born in Arkansas.
W. Sherman Carter, born approx. 1865, born in Tennessee. Father born in Virginia, Mother born in Kentucky. Contractor/brickworks. The 1880 Census puts him (or who I assume is him) puts him living in Martins Store, Weakley County, TN with his mother Ann, father William, and two sisters: Sophia/Sofia (19) and Delia (12). [Died after 1956. He is fairly light complexioned, similarly to my father (the young teenager on the left), so I assume my great-grandmother's complexion and Native American heritage come from her mother's side of the family. I could be wrong, of course.] Below are links to pictures of my great, great grandfather:
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/irnjawdangel/img362.j...

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/irnjawdangel/img359.j...

--Sometime between 1910-1920, she had lost her left arm and right leg due to blood poisoning.

1920 Census: Bess lived in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas. Lived with James Elias Smith and their three children. According to the this census, her father was born in Kentucky and her mother born in Tennessee.

--Last child was born 1927. Husband James Elias Smith died/disappeared between 1927-1930.

1930 Census: Bess lived in El Paso, was a house servant for an Earl Barron. Shows that she is a widow. Her children stayed in the El Paso Protestant Children's Home. Her children are/were: James Everett Smith, Sr. (my grandfather), Clara Nell, Mabel Irene, Edward Charles, Annie Laurie, Wilma, and William Carter.

-1933-1940: Bess took children out of children's home and moved them to Port Arthur. Grandfather James Everett Smith joined CCC then the army.

1940-lived in Port Arthur, married Alfred Ray Carson, staff Sargent in US Army, born approximately 1912.

-lived in Port Arthur, TX for many years, then after death of A.R. Carson, moved to Michigan with son, Edward Charles.

-died 1967 in Michigan.

Notes: She was dark complexioned and my dad says that she was part Native American, but he doesn't know how much so or from what side of the family. Below are two links to pictures of my great-grandmother in 1942 with my aunt Patricia.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/irnjawdangel/aug42riv...
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/irnjawdangel/Elizabet...

Questions: How did a double amputee marry a staff Sargent from a well known Port Arthur family who was 14 years younger than her? How did she meet him when she was living in Little Rock, then El Paso, neither of which are close to Port Arthur (east coast of Texas near Galveston)? Who was Bess' mother? Where was William Sherman Carter in 1870?

Posted to: Carter, Miller AR, Arkansas Genealogical Society, Arkansas Family History Association

Searching for Pamela "Pam" Miller about 55 years of age

I am searching for any information about an old elementary school friend, Pamela "Pam" Miller, who would be about 55 years of age, and while living in New Iberia, Louisiana, she attended Elizabeth Forgey Elementary School and finished the 8th grade there in 1964. Pam was the only daughter of Clayton B. Miller and his wife, Shannon C. Pride Miller, and while living in New Iberia, Louisiana, the Miller family resided at 608 Missouri Street, New Iberia, Louisiana. While living in New Iberia, Clayton B. Miller worked as an engineer for Mag Co Bar and Magnet Cove Barium Corporation, and Shannon C. Pride Miller worked as a beautician, and Shannon Miller was leader of a Girl Scout Troop in the early 1960's. After the end of the 1963 - 1964 school year, the Miller family moved from New Iberia, Louisiana and it is believed that the moved in the Houston, Texas vicinity, and Clayton B. Miller and Shannon C. Pride Miller were divorced, and later Clayton B. Miller died. Any informaton would be greatly apprecitated, thank you very much

I've seen several posting regarding the Paulk family in Fouke, and I'm hoping to find a connection to my great-grandmother.

My great-grandmother was Lula Paulk (b. 1870, d. 1910). She first married David Franklin Tubbs and had two children, Jess (my grandfather) and Fanny. After David's death, she married Jerry Corley and had a son, Silas Corley.
I had not checked thie site in quite awhile, but when I did I found some information that I felt I had to correct. Someone asked where is Kiblah, Arkansas and the reply was between Fouke and Doddridge. Kiblah is located south of Fouke and Doddridge. It is about 2 miles north of the Louisiana-Arkansas border. I know I am from Kiblah. If I am not mistaken the only town between Fouke and Doddridge is Fort Lynn.

Is there someone on the board who can answer this question.

In April 1828, the Court in Hempstead County removed a case to Miller County for settlement of an estate. Fergus/Furgus Sloan/Sloane died in 1819 in Hempstead County. The administrator Thomas Polke/Polk was named in 1820. Evidently the estate was not settled, or it would not have been removal to Miller County in 1828. Where would the court documents be located, in Miller County or in the Old Miller County documents that were moved to Lafayette County?

Thank you for any help or suggestion.
Tucker Family in early to mid 1800s in Arkansas?

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
Miller Co, AR Research Questions

I visited your USGenWeb page tonight & didn't know where to direct my question. Hopefully you can help or at least point me in the right direction. I will be visiting the Miller Co. area in early August with my aunt & uncle. My Aunt & I plan to do some genealogical research on my uncle's family while we are there, if possible. We will only have a couple of days to do this & hope to find out some info before we go so we can maximize our effectiveness in finding info on his family. As I have never been there before, could you make some suggestions as to where you would recommend we can go & what resources we could expect/not expect to find while we're there? Most of his family settled in Texarkana & Fouke after 1880, but a couple of families were there before that. Many of his ancestors were also from nearby counties like Cass Co, TX & Caddo Co, LA also. (Any info on research in those areas would also be helpful.) What records are available (and where are they located) as far as county census, birth/death records, obituaries, etc. My aunt's only other visit there where she attempted some genealogy research was a frustrating failure. She stopped at the courthouse & didn't get much help on birth/death records. We have much more info on his ancestors now, but are worried we'll run into the same problems she had last time. Any hints, tips, opinions or other email contacts of experienced researchers who could steer us in the right direction so we can get the most out of our limited time there would be appreciated. Thanks in advance & Happy Hunting!!!

Sincerely,

Scott A. Britton
Marietta, OH

Madie Martin Jones

Looking for more information about Madie Martin Jones, father of my husband's maternal grandmother. According to his WWI Draft Registration card, he was b. Nov 5 1897 (which age is concurrent w/Censuses) in Texarkana, AR. It also states his father was born in Mississippi.

He was married at the time to Jessie L. (Askins) Jones, but they divorced 16 Jul 1937 in Miller Co. I found this on the web since my husband's grandmother, who is a widow of almost 39 years, living in OK, never mentioned the divorce for unknown reasons. She told me he was buried in Goodwin Cemetery, and he is listed in the Miller Co., AR, Index for Goodwin-Orr Cemetery as: Jones, Madie M. 7/2/1940 - age 42and John Orr. I don't know why he is listed this way, maybe next to John Orr's stone?

I have found him on Censuses back to 1900, with mother Roxanna, or as the Goodwin-Orr Indes lists: Jones, Rochsa Ann 3-26-1856 to 8-21-1927.

In 1900, Garland, Miller, AR, Roxanah is widowed and b.MS Mar 1856, with 6 children, including a stepson, James S Jones b. Dec 1875 TX, the rest, with Madie being the youngest, b.AR. Interesting enough, they are next door to John M Orr, age 25, who is buried in the same cemetery, possibly next to Madie?? Please note that Jessie later remarried and is buried in Minco, Grady, OK, along with son, & son-in-law (Crabbe).

More info if you can help on this family, and the father of these children, especially Madie, would be greatly appreciated...

Email me at jeffsouthall@cox.net.

Looking for family of Alonzo L Scott of Texarkana, Miller County!!

I'm stuck trying to find anymore information about my Scott family. My Scott family in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas begins sometime around 1907. The earliest records I can find is the 1910 census for Miller County.

Alonzo Lee Scott b. Feb 1880, Missouri
m. Sarah Unknown b. abt 1889, Arkansas, married for 3 years.
Children:
Edna b. abt 1907

What little family stories I have heard, Alonzo's first wife Sarah died sometime after 1910. Alonzo and Sarah had 2 children, Edna and Mary.

By 1920 Alonzo L Scott is still living in Texarkana, and is now married to Evalena Sprague. age 30.
children:
Edna V
Mary C
James R
Alonzo L

Alonzo Lee Scott died in 1927 at the Texarkana Hospital, Buried in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Texarkana.

I know very little of Alonzo Lee Scott's parents. Based on his death ceritificate, father-James L. Scott b.TN abt 1830
mother- Nancy E Evans b. TN abt1840

That is all I know of the family. My grandfather was son of Alonzo,
his name was Alonzo Leroy Scott b. 1915, Texarkana. He died when I was very young, and I never knew anything of the Scott side of my family. Is there any of the Scott family still living in or around Texarkana? I would really like to talk with family members to find out about the family and share what we know. The older we get, the less my family remembers details. Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for help with information on the families of James and Ida Nolen McDonald. James McDonald was born in August 1840 in Tennessee. He would have been married to a Mary T. (?) who died before 1910. James and Mary are listed in the 1900 Clear Creek, Sevier County, Arkansas census. His then married Ida Nolen. Ida is listed in the 1910 Garland Twp, Miller County, Arkansas census unmarried living with her parents and some brothers and sisters. She is listed again in the 1910 Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas listed as a widow, living with her three children, Idelia (b. 1913), Essis D. (b. 1914) and Roy B. 1917). Would like any information on these children.
Hilland Family of Texarkana

I'm looking for information on the HILLAND family in Texarkana around 1910-1920.

PATRICK HENRY HILLAND was born March 18, 1915 in Texarkana (or so we believe) and died July 21, 1988 in Spring, Harris County, Texas. I believe he had two brothers, ARTHUR and ALBERT.

His mother may have been MAE or MAY, and his father is unknown but was born in Ireland, according to the 1920 US Census, Texarkana, ED 70, Sheet 20A. His mother MAE was widowed before January 12, 1920 but her last son Albert was born circa June 1919.

I believe that Patrick Hilland's FATHER died sometime between October 1918 and January 1920, presumably in or near Miller County. I can't find any record of him being in the war. I would most like to know what the father's name was, when he died, and where he was from. Could somebody please help me find out more about this HILLAND family? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!

Jessica M. Third St. from this area called Carmichael Hill?

Also, would anyone happen to know where Stateline Cemetery is? It's possible there are two sections to this cemetery, the older and newer sections.

Thanks for the help,

SHEILA

Looking for G.A. "Bud" Richardson, Annie Walker, Ira Brown families of Texarkana Texas/Arkansas during 1920's and prior to this time frame. "Bud" was sheriff of Bowie County 1918-1924. He had a sister named Annie (1869-1925) who married a Walker. Ira Brown married a Walker also. Brown and Walker families were carpenters during the 1920's in Texarkana. Please if anyone has a tidbit of info, I would greatly appreciate an email. Anything will help. Bennett family might be helpful also. Also looking for any Walker families linked to Walter Guy Walker, and Millard Walker. Incude Tora Walker Smith and Belle Walker Brown. Thanks, Charlotte Walker
