I am a small english book collector and while looking at a Bible I was going to sell I came across a name, signiture " Elias Augustus Smith" in an old 1857 bible.
It's strange your family name is just the forenames changed around, the name also comes up in Jamaica around 1800's.
I have attached pictures of the signiture & Bible.
