I am searching for other persons who descended from any Wood families in Marion, Baxter, Searcy, Newton, Carroll, Stone and Izard Counties, AR who might be interested in submitting eligible Y-dna samples to the Wood Y-dna Project at FamilyTreeDNA.com. My brother's Wood Y-dna is now part of that project, and we would like to know whether our Wood families are related to any of the others in the counties listed above. We have matches in the Project's database, so if you match with us, you would match with them also.

How about the death certificates of some of Alexander's siblings? Those that died most recently may have parents' names on them?

Or try the most commonly used male names in the family to see there is a census record or a marriage recorded with an "Elizabeth". These ideas have probably already been thought of and tried, but right now that is all I can come up with.

Shirley Wilson Bates

Jessie M. Knox and Priscilla Knox were married 5 Feb 1883 in Marion Cty. Priscilla's mother, Sarah/Sallie Caulk Cason married LMC Osborn 5 Sep 1889 in Marion Cty. I would like to know where Sallie Osborn's grave is. I do not find this couple on the census so they just fall into the 1881-1899 hole. Sallie and her daughters homestead next door to the Knox's so I am assuming that Dr. Daniel Cason died in MO about 1886. Jessie and Pricsilla move on to Oklahoma by 1893.
Sallie's other daughters:
Luella b. 1867, Iowa
Susan b.1866 m. Franklin Osborn
Margaret b. 1870 Iowa
Adaline b. 1870 Iowa m. Frank Smith
Caroline b. 1871 Iowa m. Benjamin Treadway
Diane Smith

Nancy Knox Roberts grave

My 2 great grandfather moved to Marion County about 1890. John D. Knox. His daughter, Nancy R. b.1869 in TN, married a Roberts but I don't know his name. According to her mother's probate in Garvin Cty, Oklahoma she is listed as Nancy Roberts living in Peel, Arkansas in 1906. There is a grave in Peel Cemetery listed as Nancy Knox Roberts. Knox was added after an early contact I made. Does anyone know who she married? I am 60% confident this is JD Knox's daughter but would like to know who she married and if there are any children. Also the dates don't exactly tie out as this probate was settled over several years and Nancy continues to be handled as alive even though she supposedly dies in 1906.

Coe, Coker, Covington, Luna, Looney, McCracken (to name a few).

it is my hope that many researchers working together and pooling resources can accomplish more than we can on our own.

I’m not related to any member of this family.

Facts you should know about the early census records -
All census records [1790 – 1840] prior to the 1850 census ONLY listed the head of household; whether male or female.

NO specific age was stated for any family member
NO place of birth was stated – city, state, or country
NO city, town, or village is stated – only the county; however some census takers listed the township
NO street address was stated
NO marital status was stated – single, married, widowed, or divorced
NO family relationship was stated – brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, wife, inlaw, etc…
NO occupation was stated
NO parental birthplaces are stated
NO race was stated [but assume “white”]

1850, 1860 & 1870 census records do not show family relationships, marital status or parental birthplaces.

Step children are not enumerated as “step” children
Adopted children are not enumerated as “adopted”
Grand children are not enumerated as “grand children”
Orphaned children were not enumerated as "orphan"

1850 is the 1st census that shows all family members

1880 is the 1st census that shows parental birthplaces and family relationships +++

Am interested in Pritchard. Alley Pritchard/Pritchett Doshier(I believe it was Pritchard because one of her sons was named Richard Prichard Doshier). Alley, b ca 1770 probably Blount Co TN, married Peter Doshier 20 Jan 1790 in Blount Co TN. Children are Margaret, Nancy Catherine, Daniel, Richard Prichard, Henry John, Wiley Peter and Adam. The first two were born in Blount Co while the next 4 were born in Knox Co TN. Not sure of the other two. Alley died in Marion Co AR in Oct 1859. I know nothing of her ancestry but have a great deal on her descendants since I descend through three of her sons: Richard Prichard, Henry and Wiley Peter. Thanks Charline Rambaud

I found an Etta Gillespie buried in Holleman Cemetery in Ouachita County, Arkansas. I searched for her at arkansasgravestones.org and found this burial. It lists her dates as 1868-1927. But I think that may be transcribed wrong. It has a picture of the tombstone and to me the birth year looks like 1862. She is married to an Ira Gillispie (1853-1939). Ouachita County is in southern Arkansas. So I'm not sure if this is your Etta. I'm not related to the family - just trying to help.

My great grandfather Oscar Jefferson Carson taught in a number of different school districts around 1900 in Marion County. I have a map of the schools by name, but I need to match those names to their number, so I can tell which schools he taught in. Does anyone have a list of these school districts? There were at least 71 districts at that time. Thanks.

Felin Holt JONES was born 1861 Ozark Co, MO. Brother Felix JONES born 1859. Boys were raised by an uncle -- I have some information that their father might be John "Jack" JONES and unknown mother. Both parents died when the boys were young and they were raised by an uncle, James W. JONES and his wife Lourana (RISLEY) JONES of Little North Fork Township, Marion Co. All four of them are including in the Marion County 1870 census (Felin is misspelled as Feildan) on page 7, enumeration #54.

John "Jack" JONES may be the son of Hugh JONES and Hester [BEVINS] JONES.

The two boys ran away to "cowboy" in Texas. Felix died soon after. Felin married Mary Anne WALLIN in Vernon, TX. Any information on a Felin, Felix, John "Jack" JONES and unknown wife very much appreciated.

I am looking for the mysterious B.C. Harris, father of Benjamin Theodore Harris. BC was born in TN abt 1857. He married Martha (unknown maiden name) and they moved/lived in Marion County.

BC fell off of a wagon, was ran over by it and died. This happened in either 1879 or 1880. His son Benjamin T was one year old in the 1880 census and his wife Martha (Marth A) was lised as a widow.

I have ordered the death certificate for Benjamin T and it lists his father as BC and mother as unknown.

Martha's mother is listed on the 1880 census with her, her name is Elizabeth Homes. Martha, her mother, and father were all born in MO.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I realize this is an old posting, but if you are still doing research, my wife had an Aunt Vergie Setzer. She had a daughter named Burliss (sp). If this is the right person, she came from the Yellville area of Marion County and they both moved to Yakima, WA. If this is the right person, both her and Burliss are buried in West Hills Memorial Cemetery, just outside of Yakima.

I am searching for any records of Williams birth or his father last name of Avey/Avery. Sarah was pregnant out of wedlock with William before marrying Albert Mote Cantrell around the time he was six. William also said that Mr Avey was also sent to prison and thats why Sarah didnt marry him. I cannot locate any birth record. If anyone could help me I would certainly appreciate it. I have searched on A.com for William Franklin Avey and Burk with no results

I am looking for info on Ada F Purdom, daughter of John Wallace and Katie Boles Purdom. She is on the 1900 Marion co. Ar Census at 5 years old. Born Feb 1895. I can't find burial records or anything after this census. Would love to find anything on her.
