Need Polly / Pollie A. SMITH Neal Henderson Ellison Olison obituary

NEED ASSISTANCE, PLEASE!

My gr gr grandmother Polly Ann was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Enoch WIGGINS in the 1900 Cedar Creek, Marion County, AR census. However her name was spelled OLISON. In the 1880 census she was listed as Mary A. ELLISON in John HENDERSON's household. But in the 1910 Jasper, Ozark County, MO census Polly is not in her daughter's household and the son-in-law's name is Enick E. WIGGINS.

So, I belive that Polly / Pollie A / Ann ELLISON / OLISON probably died in Marion County AR ....maybe Ozark County MO between 1900 and 1910. Would someone be willing to check for an obituary or a death date or anything at all on this lady?

Appreciate any assistance!!

Lois Carmack in MO email: loiscarmack@myvcs.net
Looking for Elizabeth M. LAWSON showing on the 1860 White River, Marion Co., census. I believe Bartley, Josephine, and Salina are her three children. I believe K.S. Lawson (below her on the 1860 census) is her brother, but I'm not sure. On the 1870 census Elizabeth M. Lawson does not show up anywhere I can find. However, I find on later census records where the three children show up with a last name of BROWN. ANY help on Elizabeth M. Lawson and her children would be greatly appreciated. She may have been named Mary Elizabeth Lawson, but the census shows Elizabeth M. LAWSON. THANKS!

Captain Richard S. Holt, Marion County Arkansas, Son of William H. and Mary L. (Stevens) Holt

http://www.accessgenealogy.com/scripts/data/database.cgi?fil...

RICHARD S. HOLT. It is a pleasure to write the biography of a man of unusual personal merit-the possessor of a combination of gifts so comprehensive that happiness and success in any enterprise is bound to follow the application of his qualities to the solution of almost any reasonable problem in life. It is an unwritten law that the secret of success in life in all individual cases is the common property or heritage of all unfortunates of the human race. It is therefore eminently proper for the historian or delineator of character to review the lives of those individuals who have not only been successful in the various enterprises in which they engaged, but as citizens and neighbors have won the lasting regard of all.
___________________________________________________________

Richard S. Holt, a retired merchant and farmer, and an esteemed citizen of Lead Hill, Arkansas, was born in Cannon County, Tennessee, in 1832. His parents, William H. and Mary L. (Stevens) Holt, were natives of Virginia and Tennessee respectively, the former born in 1799 and the latter in 1802. This estimable couple was married in Tennessee, whither they had gone with their parents when young, and made their home in that State until 1840, when they moved to Ozark County, Missouri, by wagon, being about six weeks on the journey. They improved a farm and resided there until 1849, when the fertile soil of Arkansas tempted them to settle in that State.

They located in Marion County, on a small improved farm on White River, and there the father died in 1860. He had passed his entire life engaged in farming and stockraising, and as an honest, upright, industrious citizen was highly esteemed. He was a lifelong Democrat.

Mr. Holt was one of six sons and five daughters born to Fielding Holt, who was a native of the Old Dominion but an early settler of Cannon County, Tennessee, where his death occurred when he was about eighty-six years of age. Some of his people served in the Revolutionary War. Grandfather Stevens was a native of the Keystone State, but when a young man went to Tennessee, married there and reared his family.

Later in life he removed to Alabama, where he died over fifty years ago. He was also a farmer, and of French origin. He was the father of two sons and two daughters, one of his daughters, the mother of our subject,[Mary L. (Stevens) Holt] dying in Lead Hill in 1882.
The twelve children born to Mr. and Mrs. Holt were named as follows:
1  Fielding resides in Lead Hill;

2 Fannie, deceased, was the wife of William Pumphrey;
3 Sophia died in infancy; William, of Lead Hill;
4 Matilda, deceased, was the wife of Franklin Pumphrey;
5 Richard S., the subject of this sketch;
6 Joseph T. died in his fifth year;
7  James, deceased, enlisted in the Confederate Army and died in the hospital in Little Rock in 1863, when sixteen years of age;
8 Elizabeth, wife of Henry Clark, of Taney County, Missouri;Patrick Henry was her third marriage.[# 1 Wilshire Magness, #2 Tom Terry, ]
9 Sarah, of Lead Hill;
10   and Mary Ann, deceased.
11    Margaret, deceased, was the wife of William Coker;
12 James fought at Prairie Grove and various other places, was captured, but managed to escape, and although so young was a brave and faithful soldier. -

Until eight years of age our subject remained in his native county and then moved with his parents to Missouri and Arkansas. He received but limited educational advantages, but being possessed of a strong mind and an unlimited amount of good common sense, he made his way to the front and is classed among the intelligent men of Boone County. Until twenty-five years of age he remained under the parental roof, but during that time he was farming for himself.

After this he began clerking, continued this for about four years prior to the war, and in the summer of 1861 he enlisted in Company C, Fourteenth Arkansas Volunteer Infantry, Confederate Army, and was made second lieutenant.

He operated in Arkansas and at the expiration of his term reenlisted and was made captain. He participated in the battle of Corinth and soon after went to Tupelo, where he was taken sick. After remaining there for nearly a year he resigned his commission and came home, where he assisted in organizing a company. However it was not needed, as the war closed about that time.

In the year 1867 he married Mrs. Ellen Harris, a native of what is now Putnam County, Tennessee, and the daughter of Wilson and Keziah Wilmoth, natives of Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmoth came to what is now Boone County, Arkansas, about 1856, and passed the remainder of their lives there, conducting a farm. Both were Baptists in religion. To Mr. and Mrs. Holt was born one child, James B., who died when four years of age. Our subject has lived within five miles of his father's old place on White River since his boyhood. He farmed for two years after the war and then engaged in merchandising at Lead Hill for about fifteen years. Since then he has carried on farming and stockraising, and is the owner of about 500 acres, being one of the most substantial and best known citizens of the county. He is a member of the A. F. & A. M., Polar Star Lodge No. 224, at Lead Hill, and is a Democrat.

http://www.dar.org/
http://www.accessgenealogy.com/scripts/data/database.cgi?fil...
From: Reminiscent History Of The Ozark Region, pub.

I am looking for information on the Nelson Gray family listed in the 1870 census in Township 1, Range 1, Clinton Co, Illinois. Post office is Carlyle. The family is listed as follows:
Gray, Nelson 47 male white farmer $150 born Alabama @1823
Gray, Rosana 36 female white keeps house born S.Carolina @1834
Gray, Nancy 20 female white at home born Georgia @1850
Gray, Margaret 18 female white at home born Georgia @ 1852
Gray, John T. 16 male white at home born Georgia @ 1854
Gray, Lizzie 3 female white born Missouri @ 1867
I believe Rosana Gray is the widow Wardlaw and that Nancy ,Margaret and John T. are Wardlaw children. John T. moved to Baxter county and married Louisa Melissa Morgan. Lizzie is Elizabeth J. Gray that married Lee Dearmore in Baxter County. I have not been able to locate Nelson,Rosana, Nancy or Margaret. It is possible that they may have been in Marion County AR. Any help is appreciated. SE Cook was Sarah Elizabeth and I have a photo of her tombstone but the sender doesn't know where she is buried. She died in 1903 and her husband died abt 3 years later. He had remarried by then so not sure but think he was probably still buried by SE. I've looked thru the Marion County Cemetery book and not found them.

I would really appreciate any help.

I found this message from Carl D. Henderson in the archives. If you're still out there, Carl, here I am.

> Hi Linda,
>
> I appreciate your assistance with my query. By any chance do you have a new
> e-mail address for (joyce_coker @juno.com)? She posted a query 12/13/98 for
> COKER STINNETT. It might be the breakthrough that I need that connects my
> grand and ggrand parents to the COKER STINNETT family.
HORN Families of Marion

From 1859 to 1877, some of my older HORNs, Joseph and Nancy J. (ANDERSON) HORN, lived in Prairie Twp. near the Boone Co. line. Actually, in 1870, they were on the Boone Co. Census, but back in Marion Co. in 1880 when the county line moved again. Looks like they lived fairly close to Eros. What school would the children have attended?

From 1880 to 1890, they were in Hampton Twp., which may have been closer to Bruno. In fact, when my grandfather, Issac Walter HORN, son of James Harvey HORN, married Eudocia Lee TURNEY of Searcy Co., he gives Bruno as his residence. Where would he have attended school?

Also, the P.O. at Bruno was established in 1878, and the one at Eros in 1880. Where and how would they have received their mail before then?

I'm writing my own history of "HORNS of Marion Co." and have many questions. Thanks for any information.

Lou Nell HUTCHISON Bath

Help!

I am researching WILLIAM HENRY HAWKINS b. March 26, 1843 Forsyth Co., GA, d. September 27, 1919 Fulton Co., GA. m.
ESTHER SARAH KEMP October 25, 1863 Forsyth Co., GA. She was b. May 07, 1844 Forsyth Co., GA d. August 16, 1887, Arkansas.

They resided in Marion Co., Arkansas between 1864-1886/7.

I am looking for the following things:

1) William and Esther (Easter) were supposedly divorced in Arkansas, between late 1881-1887, and William remarried. This wife most likely died and William returned to GA about 1886/87. I am looking for record of this divorce as well as marriage records for William.

2) Burial/Obits re: Esther. She most likely was buried with the following children: M.E.N., b/d 1865, E.S. b.1872, T. Levi b/d 1881.

3) Burial records for son, John W. Hawkins b.1871 d.1889. Possibly buried with Esther.

4) Any land records, etc.. that might be of interest.

5) Any other Hawkins family info from this area at this time. I believe they had family in the area.

I realize that this is alot to ask, but if you can help me out with any little part of this I would appreciate it. I have checked out the Archives/Marion Co. GenWeb site. I live in Georgia, so I really don't have access to alot of Arkansas records! Thanks!

Carly Hawkins Adams
I would very much appreciate a lookup of the 1850 Marion County census for Elizabeth Livingston. She had sons named Ruben and Alexander (and possibly there was an Andrew A.). Were there other children? Was there a daughter named Pricilla? Was Elizabeth, who was born in Tennessee, the widow of Samuel Bunch Livingston. If so, are they buried in Marion County?

Tucker Family in early to mid 1800s in Arkansas?

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
I am seeking information on JAKE ANDREW SMITH. He was born about 1893 in Lead-Hill (?) in the county of Marion. I know he had a brother, but I don't know his name. He married CLARA T. CROW from Washington County. She was born in Eafassi Springs (?) I suspect that she was born about 1893 as well.

Any information you could provide would be appreciated.
If any of you visit the New Peel Cemetery where the graves from the former Trimble cemetery were relocated , I would very much like to have a photo of the stone that marks the grave of my Great- Great- Great- Great Grandparents. The stone is located in grave #s 89 and 90. It is that of
Allen Trimble June 15, 1815 - April 13, 1889 and his wife Elizabeth (Nave) Trimble. I think all the stone says is Elizabeth , Wife of A. Trimble (it does not have dates for her).
If you are there, and don't mind taking an extra photo, please send to angiew@srcaccess.net
Thank You,
Angela Walling

My greatgreat grandfathers daughter Charity Young married Berry Cooper in TN before they immigrated to Randolph County, AR after the 1860 census was taken. They are shown in the 1860 TN census in Rutherford County and in the 1870 and 1880 census in Randolph County, AR Their family consisted of George,Martha and Mary(twins),S.L, T.A. and L.C.(twins).
Berry' s fathers name was Jeptha and he may have been a minister These Coopers may not be related to your line at all but then again, who knows.
Coopers in Bruno, Marion County, Arkansas

This is a great website!

With the land plot maps, I know there are a lot of Coopers in Bruno, AR. I am wondering if anyone knows how they are related.

Isaac Cooper and Elizabeth Jackson had 7 children. He was born in Georgia in abt 1850 and died in Bruno 16 Jan 1891 (MT Echo article posted Marion county website).

One of his sons is my grandfather.
William Leander Cooper married Sarah Jane Loffer in 1905. They were married by J.C. Cooper

The family says the Coopers are part Indian and that we have Jewish relatives.

Does anyone know who J.C. Cooper might be? If the other Coopers in Bruno are related somehow? Cousins or by marriage?

The land records show that right next door to Issac Cooper is John A Cooper. Are they related somehow?

Thanks for any info.
Frances

My gg-grandfather, Joseph HORN, was on the 1860 Marion Co. census, but because of a county line change, he was on the 1870 Boone Co. census. In 1880, his widow, Nancy J. HORN, was back on the Marion Co. census, and nobody moved, just the county line.

I'm interested in the relationship between Joseph and Thomas HORN. Thank you.

Seeking date of death, place of burial, and date and place of second marriage of William Fryer (sometimes spelled Frier, Fryar, or Friar). He was born in Franklin County, Missouri, ca. 1817. His first marriage was to Winnefred Griffith in Franklin County, MO, in 1839. They are on the 1850 Census of Gasconade County, Missouri. William is also on the 1860 Census of Gasconade County but Winnefred had apparently died by that time. William's second marriage was to Mrs. Emily Richardson Pope ca. 1862, (need date and place). They migrated from Gasconade County, Missouri, to Marion County, Arkansas, between 1866 and 1870. They are on the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Marion County. Lucretia Alice Fryer, daughter of William and Emily, married John Wamac Soward in Marion County in 1887. Another daughter, Paralee Elizabeth Fryer, married William Buffalo.
In 1900, William was living in Greene County, Missouri, in an alms house. When did he die and where was he buried? He lived for awhile with George W. Fryer, a son by his first marriage. William's wife, Emily Richardson Pope Fryer, was first married to Thomas Pope. She had at least two children by her Pope husband. One was Martin Pope. Emily went to live with her daughter Alice and son-in-law John W. Soward and died near Texico, New Mexico Territory, in 1907. Will exchange information.

II have seen several messages on the Avey/Adams family tree. It has Robert Andrew Avey b. abt. 1855 in Ar. married to a Francis Jane Adams. It has her parents listed as James T. Adams and Elizabeth? Her parents were Francis Marion Adams b. abt. 1821 in Tn., her mother was Margaret Jane Tippett b. abt 1840 in Mo. Francis Jane Adams was b. abt. 1863 in Pulaski county, Mo. Janie's brother, William Joe Adams(Bill), was married to Sarah Avey Cockrum. Not sure yet who Sarah's parents were, but I think she was b. abt. 1848. She was several years older than Bill.
Kathy Adams Bluejacket

Taylor/King Families

MY Eliza Jane King, dau of Joel Seborn King and Nancy Cheatham, was born 1835/36. All the census from 1850 through 1900 are consistent with this-but in 1910 she suddenly jumps 10 years in age. Even though my normally VERY reliable family history says she died in 1914 she is clearly living with dau Belle in 1920 census. This same family history clearly names Miss Belle Taylor as her daughter. so I am apt to say she was indeed born in 1835/36 but indeed died in 1924. She and her husband William P Taylor must have split up- he died in 1905 in Tahlequah (and is buried next to his grandson Cortus Ingle) but on the 1900 census Liza is back in AR living with daughters Isabelle (Belle) and Mary F. Says she is a widow but I imagine that is to save face. I wonder what happened? also, LIving with them in 1900 is grandson Mckinley ????, who in 1910 is listed at Mckinley Taylor.

Can you think of any way to learn more about Liza King Taylor?

thanks,
Cathy Ingle Allen
My gg grandfather Alexander Joseph SMITH is buried I believe in Yellville. He was a Methodist miniister and was married to Elizabeth L. Williams. She and seven children survived him. Elizabeth may also be buried in Yellville. According to a family story the monument was made by a family member. Would love to know exact location of burial as well as to hear from any one else who is researching this family. AJ Smith taught school in Meridiun, MS for a period of time. AJ Smith and Elizabeth Williams were married in Mississippi <1857. Elizabeth moved to Hill County TX with her children and at least one brother George Williams and later to Mitchell County, TX. At least one of her brothers may have also moved to Mitchell county.
I am still searching for any information on my GG Grandmother, Elmira Wagoner. She lived in Marion County, Arkansas practically on the Arkansas/Missouri border on a homestead with her daughter Martha Carrier in 1915. She was known locally as "Granny Wagoner". She died at age 114 in June 1915. She raised 9 daughters. One daughter, Nancy Wagoner married Charles Harnaker 9 Dec 1866. A daughter, Charlotte Wagoner married Samuel Thornton in 1864. A daughter, Artemica Wagoner married William Fisher in 1868. A daughter, Mary Ann Wagoner married Jacob Lewis Heatherly in 1868. A daughter, Amanda Wagoner married Oliver Sewell. Another daughter, Martha Wagoner married Cervantes Carrier. She also had daughters, Hannah, Louisa and Dazerenne (Daisy), but I don't have the names of the men they married. I would like to hear from any of the descendants of these daughters. I would like to know if anyone out there knows where Elmira Wagoner is buried. I would like to share information with any descendants, or anyone else who has any information about this family. Please contact me directly at: Pacificnwclassicars@Juno.com
