Margaret A. Hinds, daughter of John Calvin Hinds

I am looking for information on Margaret A. Hinds, daughter of John Calvin Hinds and Josephine Bohannon. I am the grandson of Marcus Sylvester Hinds, son of Margaret (I assume out-of-wedlock, due to the name).

I can find information on her in the 1880 census, Prairie twshp., living with her father and brother (after her mother passed away in childbirth in 1878). They were living with or next to her Bohannon grandparents, Joseph T. and Cynthia (Whitely).

In 1900, she was still with her grandparents with her child, Marcus (listed as Macus). Her father had remarried (Winnie Isabelle Harp) and moved to another part of Madison Co.. Her brother was still living there with his wife Maggie A. (Peace).

In 1910 she was living with her son with Benjamin and Jane Robinson, listed as "wife's companion". I can find no later record of her.

My grandfather married Inez Coger (his schoolteacher I believe-he was 15 in 1910 and Inez was listed as being the public school teacher at age 18 in the census). They moved first to Spring Valley in Washington Co. and then to Springfield, MO.

If there is anyone with any further information on Margaret, it would be greatly appreciated.

I would also apreciate if anyone knows how to contact Steve Hinds, who posted a query in 1999 (a ggrandson of William L., Margaret's son) to let me know - he no longer has the e-mail he did in 99.

Thank you

There's a recent post from MARYACHTRH which states she will do look-ups for Madison County from the 1840-1920 census books; marriages from 1901-1927; information from The Musings, etc.

Mary is a wonderful researcher and I'm certain she will do a complete search of the books she has for the information you're searching for and will give 100% to answer your questions.

However, if you post a message to Mary and she's unable to find the information you're looking for, please e-mail your question to me. I am the President of The Madison County Genealogical & Historical Society and work at our society's library. I may have access to additional sources at our library that Mary doesn't have in California where she lives. I will be glad to look through our vast collection of books and files to see if I can find what you're looking for. I also have a huge database on Madison County people in my Family Tree Maker files.

You can post your question at this website, or you can e-mail me at jrussell44@aol.com. If you e-mail me please put "Madison County Look-up" in the subject line.

Joy Russell
Madison County Genealogical & Historical Society
Huntsville, Arkansas

George Wesley Bell & Fina Perdue Bell, Drakestown AR 1880's

I am trying to establish where in Arkansas George Wesley Bell and Fina Perdue bell may have lived. GW Bell was born in Ky in 1842 and Fina Perdue was also born in Ky in 1851.
They were on the 1880 Gallatin Co. IL Census. All I know is that 3 of their 10 children were born in ARkansas--Susan A Bell in 1882, Scharlott in 1883 and Grace in 1884. Grace was my Great Grandmother. She told her daughter she was born in Drakestown, ARk. Can anyone tell me where this might have been? And how to search for lunacy cases and divorce cases and/or where in Arkansas an asylum may have been located for women 1885-1900?

Mitchell Family History in Madison and Carroll Counties of ArkansasI am a de

I am a descendant of Stephen Amziah Mitchell born around 1805 in North Carolina moved to Cannon County, Tennessee and lived there until around 1860. He moved his family to Kings River Township, of Madison County, Arkansas. He farmed there till he he died around 1880. Stephen's son Edmond Houston AKA; Houston 'T' Heuse Mitchell lived in Dry Forks, Arkansas until his death in 1930. Edmond's son was Robert Tatum Mitchell and he lived in Kingston, Arkansas until his death in 1943. His son William Houston (My Grandfather) moved from Arkansas about 1916 to Oklahoma. I know that we still have family in the Madison, Carrollton Counties of Arkansas. I have done a good deal of research on the family and would like to make contact with any relatives in the area.

Seeking information on George WEsley and Josephine (Fina) Perdue Bell. My great grandmother, Grace Bell (their daughter) was believed to be born in "Drakestown) Arkansas
11/2/1884. I am wondering if this is really in your County and the place name is slightly off? They had a very large family that was in Gallatin County, IL in the 1880 census. My great aunt always said my ggrandma came out of the Ozarks in a covered wagon. I know her parents were born in Kentucky and it is believed that Fina died in Cookville Tn around 1894.

Is anyone interested in helping me make a Marble, Ar web page where we can exchange anything and everything on Marble. This town is small yet no one seems to know anyone from there except their own ancestor. I think perhaps we can compile all we know and perhaps this will lead us to find out more about this little town. Questions about the school, church, store, cemetary, work, where they came from before coming to Marble etc. My great uncles were all taken in by neighbors or family in Marble after the death of my gr grandfather yet i cant seem to locate anyone that has record of this except listings on the census. I would be interested in bringing Marble, Arkansas back....at least online that is... Please contact me at red1145@comcast.net.

She lived in or around St Paul in the mid 1930's, her 6th,7th and possible 8th grade years. I'm not for sure after that I would presume she did because she married my grandfather Elton Rowlett who was from there in the late 30's or early 40's. If anyone has any information I would appreciate the help.

James S and Lucy L Stout - Children of Jonothan Benjamin and Sarah Lydia Gabbard Stout - Madison County Arkansas 1890s-1900

I have found two children of Jonothan Benjamin Stout and Sarah Lydia Gabbard Stout in the 1900 census - James S and Lucy L. Sarah is listed as having two children - both of whom were still living by the 1900 census.

However, on the 1910 census these children are missing - Sarah is listed as having 5 children - all of whom were still living but none of them are the James S and Lucy L from the 1900 census.

Jonothan and Sarah are listed as living in the household next to Jonothan's parents James M and Tennessee Demanda Carter Stout in the 1900 census. In the 1910 census, Jonothan is listed as Ben and Sarah Lydia is listed as Lydie but they are still in the house next to James M and Tennessee.

Jonothan and Sarah were my great-great-grandparents. Their child Claude James from the 1910 census is my great-grandfather.

All of the other information fits with what I know from my great-grandfather but I haven't heard anyone in the family mention James S or Lucy L. Does anyone have any further information on them?
Which I believe that
most of the Parsley's in the United States are linked
together somehow or another, but that is just my opinion.
Thank you,
BettyParsleyByrd
ladybyrd937@msn.com

James Samuel Haney

am looking for information on my Husband's great-grandfather and his family. The information I have is as follows:

James Samuel Haney
b. 15 May 1881 in Arkansas (Probably Aurora, Madison Co.)
d. 1918 in Claremore, Rogers, Oklahoma

m. 21 Sept. 1903

Dora Belle Spurlock daughter of Joseph M. Spurlock and Shirlda Jane Cluck
b. 27 Oct 1886 in Madison County, Arkansas
d. 28 Nov 1967 in Claremore, Rogers, Oklahoma

Children:

Wilma b. abt. 1905
Verlie Ethel b. 29 Nov 1907 in Arkansas d. 19 May 1958 in Pryor, Mayes, Oklahoma. She married Joseph Trendley Dougherty. (She is my husband's Grandmother)
There was also (possibly) another child that everyone just called "Haney". My sister-in-law remembers him. His wife's name was Sarah Nell, and her sister Francis Josephine was Joseph Dougherty's second wife.

I would like to find out who James' parents were and so on. James is found in the 1910 census in Rogers County, Oklahoma. It shows that he, his wife Dora, and his children were all born in Arkansas. I've done some reading on Madison County, Arkansas. There is mention of a grist mill on the farm of John Haney that was about 1/2 mile north of Aurora. Also, the University of Fayettville has a collection of papers from the family of Samuel Haney. I'm not sure if there is any connections. If anyone has any further information on this family, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,

Melissa Dougherty

Richard Gates adoption 1870's

Seeking parents of Richard Gates. Family tradition says he was a twin born 8 May 1873 in Huntsville, Madison, AR. His mother could not take care of him, so she gave him to John Gates b.1848 who raised him as a son. No one seems to know if he was adopted by John. His last name at birth was Harper, but he took the name Gates. In a baby book Richards father is noted as Douglas born in IN and mother Hannah born NC. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Phoebe Adams
