Can anyone please help me find where Eppy White Hellums (1812-1867) is buried? She owned 120 acres a couple of miles south of Star City, just across the highway from where the old fire tower used to be (intersection of hwys. 425 & 54). One of Eppy's sons, Jacob P. Hellums (1846-1900), is buried at Heflin Cemetery near Star City. Another son, James W. Hellums (1835-1909), is supposed to be buried at Bellwood Cemetery in Pine Bluff, but I did not find his name on a listing of people buried at Bellwood. Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

She was the mother of my father, John Garvin Owen from Pine Bluff Ark.

Dillard and Albert BAILEY

Dillard b: Jan. 30, 1887 d: Jan 14, 1904 Jefferson County
Albert b: Oct. 30, 1889 d: March 27, 1909 Jefferson County

These two were brothers who were on the brink of manhood when their lives were abruptly ended...each at a different time, within a few years of the other.
Family story goes that the oldest, Dillard died when he was just 17. He had gotten a splinter in his knee and it had been removed with an unsterile instrument. Gangrene set in and Dillard died.
Albert's story is that he was driving a wagon when it had some kind of an accident and he was killed. He was just 20 years old. Now, his father owned a mercantile and a cotton gin; could be that he had been working for his dad at the time of the accident.
Anyone who really knew the story, is of course, gone now.
Unless, of course, someone could find their story in an old newspaper clipping, like an obit. Since the family was living in Jefferson County it would probably be in the Arkansas Gazette, or Pine Bluff Commercial. Both boys were buried in Holly Springs Cemetery, Lincoln County, as that was where the old homestead had been.
Could someone help finish the end of these two stories by locating their obits?

Thanks, Tricia plbrimer@swbell.net

Seeking Gravesite for Harriet Jane Reeves, d. 08 May 1929 near Grady, Arkansas

Our family would like to place a headstone for grandma Harriett Jane Reeves. She died 08 May 1929 in Choctaw township near Grady, Arkansas. The death certificate does not say where she was buried, the church or the funeral home. The story as passed down was that she was buried in a church cemetery in the area and there was no headstone placed.

The family didn’t live in Lincoln County very long. Her husband was Thomas James Reeves, they had 7 children. The church was most probably Baptist. It appears to say that the doctor was named Billingsley. The person supplying information for death certificate was Penn Rogers.

Can anyone help with suggestions about how to obtain 1) newspaper obituary 2) church records 3) medical records 4) funeral home records 5)city/county directory 6)school records or ANY other suggestions?
Tucker Family in early to mid 1800s in Arkansas?

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
County Writeup in Old Magazine

am looking for info about a magazine or publicity brochure, printed in about 1913-1915, about the counties of Arkansas. I have pages 53 & 54 (Lincoln County and Little River County). I do not know the title, who wrote it, published it, etc. The page on Lincoln County talks about the timber, farming, roads, and why you should move there. The following page, on Little River County is an interview with my g grandfather, Col. C. Y. Trice. I would appreciate any info you have on this document. Thank you.

Dudley Wilson -- Lincoln Co property owner 1861

Dudley WILSON married Martha Ann WILSON in Pontotoc Co Mississippi - 1850.

1860. Dudley and Martha resided in Barthlowmew twnsp, Jefferson Co in 1860.

I'm wondering if any lister would have WILSON family information about either Dudley or Martha Ann?

Specifically, I would like to know their parents names.

I would like to trace their roots prior to 1850. I have no clues, and I'm wondering if this Wilson family had family roots in this area?

Background: From census and other records I've learned:

Dudley Wilson was born 1829 in Alabama;
Martha Ann WILSON was born 1833 in Georgia.

1850 Census. Dudley and Martha are living in Pontotoc Co Mississippi. He was 21 and she was 19.

1860 Census. Dudley and Martha and their children are in Bartholomew, Jefferson Co, Arkansas.

January 1861: Dudley Wilson buys property in Lincoln County [noted in AR Land Records]

March 1862: Dudley Wilson died on battlefield Pine Bluff [ noted in Civil War diaries.]

May 1862: His daughter Mollie born in Lincoln County.

1870 Census. Martha Wilson, now a widow; and her children have moved from Arkansas to Bell County Texas.

1880 Census: Martha Wilson, daughter Mollie, and son John T Wilson are located in Brown Co Texas.

1881. The daughter, Mollie D WILSON will Marry G. W. KING in Brown Co Texas.

Both Mollie D Wilson and her husband G W King are buried in Arizona. Two of their children are buried in Arizona and two are buried in California.

I am willing to share additional family details with connecting families of either Martha Wilson or Dudley Wilson.

Thank You,
Rachel

I am searching for information on these Boyd brothers - John "Tanner" Boyd, Charles A. Boyd, James "Major" Boyd, Alexander Boyd, and Andrew J. Boyd. These brothers and other relatives, moved to Lincoln Co after the Civil War. All came from Chester Co, SC. They may have arrived before Lincoln Co was formed and it's possible some may have been in "precursor" counties.

My grandmother was also from Star City. I think she may be a little bit older than your Mom (b: circa 1918); but I know that at times I've heard her talk about the Glover's. Grandmother and Dad have had several talks about their Glover friends in Star City. In fact, there was a Mr. Glover who had a car lot in Pine Bluff that my grandfather did car business with steaming from a friendship in Star City. My grandmother is still living, but she has dementia/alzheimer's. Her name is also Dorothy Jean (Nobles) Bailey.

today my father showed me a ledger that had belonged to my great grandparents, James W. BAILEY and Lettie Matthews Bailey. This ledger contained names of men of Star City who had paid $5.00 a month for lessons on a band instrument. One page shows g.grandfather buying different band instruments and paying someone to give lessons. There was another entry that implied that Star City had a band of its own. The year date on the pages started at 1924. At the back of the book, were entries from g.grandmother where she had sold, milk, eggs, and chickens. Her year dates were 1931,to 1934...sporadically.

I am looking for my great great grandparents. Levi M. Moore
and his wife Margret. They were listed in the 1840 census of
Desha Co. Ar. Also in the tax list of 1842 owning 94 Acres.
In section 5 Township 9 South, Range 5 west. Is this in
Lincoln Co.Ar. now? Margret died first I think in 1848 with the
cholera, then Levi died too. Their children Apsala Ann b.1831 in IL.,Josephus b. 1838-9 in Ky., Nancy b. 1840.in Ar. After
the parents died Their children were back in Greene Co.IL. to
be cared for by their grandparents and relatives. Apsala Ann
was married to an W.H.or H.H. Marsh , for in January of 1850
her Husband was sieing her grandfather John Vertrees for her
share of the interest from their father's, Levi M.Moore, estate in
Arkansaw. I can't find where he died or they divorced, she was
living with her aunt in the 1850 census. Do you have a list of the cemeteries and find where Margret and Levi M.Moore are
burried. Do you have land records down there where we could find where they lived. Does any one know if their was a epidemic of cholera. Is any one related to these people. I would love to hear from someone. They came to Jefferson County Ark. from Tippah, Mississippi and later moved to Lincoln County. My great grand mother Annie is Buried at O'neal Cemetery in Lincoln County Arkansas. She left a box of photos behind and I have been trying to piece everthing together. One photo is a family group photo.(No names on back) has about twenty people in the photo. The others have names on the back. Clara, Baby Bert, Tom & Savannah, Bill and Ann (this is my gg) Henry, Frank (these two are in military uniforms), Lucy, and several others. I believe that Savannah and family moved to Hill County Texas in the 1900's. If you think you might connect to my line, please contact me.
Does anyone know why a marriage performed Dec. 1871 in Star City, Lincoln Co, "According to the rules of the Baptist Church" would be "Filed for record Feb 3, 1872 and recorded Feb 15, 1873"?

Is this a record keeping procedure of the court? Was there a problem with getting some records filed? The groom in this particular instance was an immigrant who had been in the U. S. since arriving from Europe in 1867.

It would appear this couple did not live together until 1874.

Any information would be appreciated.

Need info on Frank Fannin (1903-1989), son of Myrtle Halsell

Need help! Working on the family line for a good friend of mine. The ONLY information about her father's (Frank Fannin) family is that his mother was Myrtle Halsell. Myrtle's parents were Lewis (Louis) Benjamin Halsell and Mary C. Adkins. Frank Fannin (1903-1989) was told his mother never married his father (rumor says they were briefly married but divorced shortly after Frank was born in Arkansas). Myrtle then married James Henry Virgil Murders in Garland County, Arkansas (1907) and then James C.H. Bayless in Garland County, Arkansas (1929).

In 1910 Myrtle is living with her father Lewis, as a widow (Frank Fannin was in the household). If that's true about her being a widow it couldn't have been from Frank's father because he met his father later on in his adult life in Starr City, Lincoln County, Arkansas. (It is believed that Frank's father may have been from Starr City, Arkansas.) Myrtle married Virgil Murders in 1907 and why she was living with her father is unknown. Virgil was still living according to the 1910 and 1920 census with his wife Myrtle (Myrtie).

There are hardly any clues to go by but I was just hoping maybe somebody out there might know something!

I am looking for information on Orvill Curliss, listed in the 1930 Smith, Lincoln, Co. AR census. He seems to have been born in AR, as was his father...his mother was born in MO. The record I found is hard to read, but I think he was 25 years old, therefore, born in about 1905.

Does anyone know anything about the Douglas Cemetery, located about 5 miles north of the town of Douglas? It is next to the Douglas Old River Lake, south of the Arkansas river in (what is now) Auburn Twp. The Jones cemetery is nearby. Viewed from the TerraServer website, it appears to by fairly small. My Douglass family lived in Douglass Twp. in Arkansas county but this area was ceded to Lincoln county in 1871. Any clues as to the origin of this cemetery or Douglas Town would be greatly appreciated.
