May I suggest another spelling of Bolding/Bolling. There were Bowlan families in adjoining counties in Miss. Many families migrated to/from DeSoto, Marshall counties in MS and in Shelby County, Tenn. to Arkansas.

Would like to communicate with anyone who has knowledge of the early Hill families in Lee County, Arkansas, circa 1880. Am trying to establish a connection, specifically, to a George W. Hill (1831- ? ) who may have lived there with his wife Anna Bolding/Bolling (1836- ? ) and his children, one of whom was Rebecca Jane Hill (1860-1924). Rebecca Jane Hill was married to John Henry Smith in Lee County, Arkansas on 30 Mar 1879, according to a contributor on Ancestry.com with whom I have been unable to contact. My George W. Hill and his family would have moved from Franklin County, Alabama, after 1870 where he was counted in the Federal Census for that year. I believe that his parents were Clayburne Hill and his wife Mary Anne Pershing Hill who had come to Franklin County, Alabama, from Tennessee. Clayburne Hill died around 1850 in Franklin County, Alabama and Mary Anne Pershing Hill married soon after to Andrew Patton Bolding who was a farmer in Franklin County. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has Hill connections in Lee County, Arkansas. lindacollins3626

Opal was my grandmother and mom had the divorce decree but my mom died last year.
Was primarily wondering if I'm looking for opal boozer that year 1940 census or opal riden. All I know of grandmas first husband is his parents lived on a house boat.

Could this family and daughter Ella possibly be the right one?
1910 US Census...transcription as follows: (but I can look at the image also and there are other HARRIS households)

Name: Robt H Harris
Age in 1910: 27
Estimated Birth Year: 1883
Birthplace: Arkansas
Relation to Head of House: Head
Father's Birth Place: Nova Scotia
[United States]
Mother's Birth Place: Nova Scotia
[United States]
Spouse's Name: Zettella Harris
Home in 1910: Bear Creek, Lee, Arkansas
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Gender: Male

Household Members: Name Age
Robt H Harris 27 AR NS NS
Zettella Harris 23 TX NS NS
Stella Harris 4 AR AR TX
Ella Harris 3 AR AR TX

I let the Default for spelling variations do the search, tried showing 1902 + or - 2 yrs for a female. Then eliminated that and did a general search for Lee Couonty, AR, for HARRIS surname, no sex shown, white...and found several. This household looks with it could be a possibility, I suppose because of the mother's unusual name.

If this is the right family, there are other census years indicated for the father (on the Ancestry hints on right sidebar)

Here is the 1920....still in same location..you can see Mother's name is different as are the children's names...but close spelling...
1920 United States Federal Census

about Robert H Harris Name: Robert H Harris
Home in 1920: Bear Creek, Lee, Arkansas
Age: 36
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1884
Birthplace: Arkansas
Relation to Head of House: Self (Head)
[Head]
Spouse's Name: Nettella Harris
Father's Birth Place: Arkansas
Mother's Birth Place: Tennessee
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Sex: Male
Home owned: Own
Able to read: Yes
Able to Write: Yes
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Robert H Harris 36
Nettella Harris 35
Stella Harris 13
Ellaree Harris 12
Ellen Harris 6
Willis Pierson 40

1930 United States Federal Census
about Robert H Harris Name: Robert H Harris
Home in 1930: Bear Creek, Lee, Arkansas
View Map
Age: 47
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1883
Birthplace: Arkansas
Relation to Head of House: Head
Spouse's Name: Lettella Harris
Race: White
Occupation:

Household Members: Name Age
Robert H Harris 47
Lettella Harris 45 (Mother's name another spelling variation in transcription but reads Zettella)
Christina Harris 7
Bonnie Collins 27
Marisa Collins 22
Julius L Collins 6/12

The daughter b abt 1902 is missing in 1930...but on the 1930 census Ancestry sidebar, a 'hint' is that Marissa is same as the daughter Ellaree . Marisa is "Bennie's spouse it seems (Bonnie is error) and she is shown b abt 1908...close enough to be possible. There are many errors in birthyears shown on the census.

Hope this helps.....

If you know her father's name search for him in 1910. Since she married in 1919 she would be listed under her married name in 1920. Do you know the names of the mother or any of her sibling? Search for any of them in the 1910 census. Do not limit it to Lee County, but search all of Arkansas if you have to, starting with adjoining counties. Search for her first name, maybe she was living with grandparents or an aunt, even out of state.

Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone can provide me tips in researching when the name of the person can and has been spelled several ways. I'm looking for my great grandmother. She was born, raised and died in Lee County, Ar. She was born in 1902. Her name at birth was Elmetta Harris. But however, its been spelled Alamaeda (her marriage certificate from 1919), Almetta on other family documents and other variations.

Can anyone advise, what is the best way to research when you encounter this. I have not been able to find her in the census at all. She died in 1970 and I can't even find social security index information.

If you have insight, please advise.

I never thought about them.

Ask your relatives if they ever knew a old Mrs. Levy in the 50's or 60's.
Hmmm, the Soudan I am aware of is near Brickeys, AR which is in the same county but not is the same location as Garret Grove. So the school he most likely taught at was in this area (I assume?)

I have family from around that area also. I will see if they remember the actual name of the school in that area.

Here is some information on a school in Soudan. Of course, I can’t say for sure this is the school Matthew Levy taught at but it was operational in the 1920s.
http://rosenwald.fisk.edu/index.php?module=search.details&am...

I found some interesting information about schools for African American children in around Arkansas and a searchable database. Since you know more about your ancestors you may be better suited to narrow down the one they most likely taught at. There were 20 in Lee County (dosen't mean there were not more, but these are the schools that received funding from the Rosenwald fund)
http://www.preservationnation.org/travel-and-sites/sites/sou...

If I can be of more help, email me at donna_sheltonus@yahoo.com, Again, I know the area pretty well and I still live in Arkansas.
Thanks for the additional information; that helps, my family knows the woman who is in charge of the cemetery there. One of the churches and the cemetery are still in operation. The school and store are no longer there. I will contact her and see if she knows anything about the Levys. Her mother is also still living but I don't know how coherent she is. I've been meaning to meet with her for some time so you have given me another reason to. You can contact me directly at donna_sheltonus@yahoo.com and maybe we can share any additonal info. Thanks

Some confusion of where she was born KY or TN however I believe her father was Hiram Ellison of KY and mother named Charlotte of TN.

Name: Rosa Morgan
Social Security #: 412380637
Sex: Female
Birth Date: 18 Apr 1894
Birthplace: Tennessee
Death Date: 14 Oct 1970
Death Place: Los Angeles

Rosa Ellison, birth date 7 Dec.1874 Kentucky, death 1 Jan.1966

Name: Rosa E Morgan
Sex: Female
Birth Date: 7 Dec 1871 (1900 census says born Dec 1872 KY)
Birthplace: Kentucky
Death Date: 13 Jan 1966
Death Place: Los Angeles
Mother's Maiden Name: Reynolds

Name: Audia Mae Lancaster
[Audia Mae Edwards]
Social Security #: 526268349
Sex: Female
Birth Date: 7 Feb 1894 (1900 census says she was born 1893)
Birthplace: Oklahoma
Death Date: 7 Mar 1952
Death Place: Santa Clara
Mother's Maiden Name: Ellison
Father's Surname: Edwards

Name: Roy B Edwards
Social Security #: 526079014
Sex: Male
Birth Date: 24 Mar 1901
Birthplace: Oklahoma
Death Date: 27 Jun 1961
Death Place: Los Angeles
Mother's Maiden Name: Ellison

Name: Ruby May Curtis
[Ruby May Morgan]
Social Security #: 555185727
Sex: Female
Birth Date: 21 Mar 1917
Birthplace: Oklahoma
Death Date: 6 Oct 1995
Death Place: Los Angeles
Mother's Maiden Name: Ellison
Father's Surname: Morgan

Name: Johnnie Morgan
Social Security #: 527163469
Sex: Male
Birth Date: 4 Mar 1907
Birthplace: Oklahoma
Death Date: 5 Jun 1985
Death Place: Fresno
Mother's Maiden Name: Martin
- no proof this was son of John W Morgan and 1st wife Annie but I think it might be as I found a marriage record in Cooke Co TX. (borders OK) J M Morgan age 21 and Annie Martin age 20 married there 12 Sept 1895 as transcribed from this website https://beta.familysearch.org/s/collection/list

Spouse 1: Silas McDonald Edwards
Spouse 2: John W Morgan
Children: You provided no names. Did they live in Lee Co AR ? Another one of your queries listed Elmer Lee Morgan as your father a sister Ruby Morgan and a son named Roy F possibly Edwards. You mention Cannon Co TN. Another query you say Roy F b. 1904, Johnnie W b. 1909, Ruby M 1918 and Elmer Lee 1915.

Ruby Morgan has already married by 1930. Rosa had 5 children with with Silas Edwards before 1900 only 3 were living. Rosa Ellison and Silas Edwards married in Crawford Co AR 20 Nov 1887 when she was 15; had Bertha 1890, dtr "Audil" 1893 dtr "Verdil" 1896 then Roy Edwards 1901 then she married John Morgan abt 1908 in Seminole Co OK. (my opinion as that is where John Morgan was in 1900) Ruby May, the oldest, then Elmer Lee her only known children with John Morgan. Ruby's California death certificate has her abt 5 yrs younger than she was.

"lloutensock166" has noted 02/05/2010 that this family surname is Morgan 1930 census.

1930; Census Place: Red Mound, Seminole, Oklahoma; Roll: 1930; Page: 14A; Enumeration District: 24; Image: 867.0.
John Marzan age 53 born TN 1877 stated age was 18 1st time he married
Rosie Marzan age 54 born TN 1876 father TN mother KY stated she was 14 1st time she married
Elmer Marzan 15 born OK son

02 Jan 1920;Census Place: Red Mound, Seminole, Oklahoma; Roll: T625_1471; Page: 1A; Enumeration District: 255; Image: 451
Dwelling # 3
John W Morgan age 52 born TN 1868
Rosa Morgan age 38 born TN 1882 said father born KY mother TN
Roy Morgan 16 yrs 9 mos born OK 1903 abt - Roy Edwards
Johnie Morgan 12 ysr 9 mos born OK 1907
Ruby Morgan 7yrs 8? mos born OK 1912
Elmer Morgan 4yrs 9 mos born OK 1915

21 May 1910; Census Place: Econtuchk, Seminole, Oklahoma; Roll: T624_1274; Page: 25B; Enumeration District: 182; Image: 138.
Dwelling 496
James J Morgan 25 born TN single
Lucinda Means 45 born TN married sister 2nd marriage 0 yrs mother of 7 living children
Kennie?
What years are you referring to? There was a small school in that area known as Garrett Grove in the early 1900s. My ancestors built the school and the church. Let me know what years you mean and I can check on it for you.

Latrice

Oshier Dewee Rogers Parents

I need help to find the parents of Oshier Dewee Rogers. Her 1st name has been seen spelled Ossier, Osher and Oshier. Information I have is that she was born August, 1892 in Monroe County. She married Haley Hicks 19 Mar 1905 in Monroe County. She married A.J. Baxter 13 July 1913 in Woodruff County. She married James Columbus Triplett 12 May 1916 in Lee County. She married John Thomas Worley about 1925 in Woodruff County. She died 10 August 1939 in Woodruff County. The 1910 and 1930 Census say both parents were born in Arkansas. I know all of the above but have never been able to find her before her 1st marriage or her parents on any census or other records. Can anyone help me?

Eura Pearleen Hicks born 24 Dec 1909 in Moro, Lee County. Married to James Howard Travis in about 1924. Her parents are said to be Hailey Hicks and Ossier Rogers. She can be found on the 1930 census as the wife of Travis. I can't find her or her parents on any census prior to 1930. Any and all help finding Eura and/or parents prior to 1930 will be appreciated.
