John O’Shields (Jr.) b: 1861, married Alice “unknown”, b: 1892, ca 1909, probably in Lee Co, AR. John, Alice, and 2 month old Sam are shown in the 1910 Census in Lee Co, Hampton Township, household 35/35.
In the 1920 Census for Lee Co, Hampton Township, household 2/2, Alice is the wife of Jerry M. Compton. Samuel O’Shields, 9, and Johnie O’Shields, 7, are listed as Stepson’s of Jerry.
In the 1930 Census for Lee Co, Hampton Township, household 324/329, is A.G. (Alice) Compton, a widow, and her 2 sons, Sam (Compton), 20, and John (Compton), 18.
My assumption is that John married Alice and they had 2 sons. John died some time after the birth of Johnie (ca 1912) and Alice remarried Jerry Compton before 1920. Jerry Compton died sometime between 1920 and 1930. He may have adopted John’s sons.

John O’Shields is the oldest brother of my Grandfather Issac Max O’Shields. I would like to communicate with anyone that knows of this family.

I am looking for information on my father, William Butler James Jr. Any family or other information would be helpful. As far as I know he was born In Marianna, in either 1929, or 1931. He died in 1985 or so, and I think he is burried in Oak Grove Cemetery. I found the grave site listings for William James in Oak Grove Cemetery, but one list has different dates than the other one, and the SSDI death index has a different date. I think he had 2 children prior to Fathering Carolyn Sue James in Orange County California, she was born Augest 4th 1959. I was born in March of 1964 but William Butler James had already left and was never made aware of my birth.

Any Information would be helpfull.

Delilah Crittenden and William East

I'm hoping to locate anyone who might have some additional information on this family. They can be seen on the 1880 census for Lee County in the Hampton Township. William East is the second husband to Delilah and is a much younger person. They had one child together named Lawrence East. The other kids on the census are listed as East, but they are actually Crittenden's. By 1900 and beyond, the family does not appear anywhere else except for my line. Boman/Bowman family

My wife's family is the Boman/Bowman family in Moro, AR. I have done some work on her line. I had been away from ancestry work for a while due to work but had come up with a pretty good idea that they moved to the Moro area from Alabama. The two brothers that came here were listed in the Alabama Census as Bowman's but used Boman in once in Arkansas. Their tombstones say Boman. My wife's father and his siblings were Bowman. Why the speling changes, ??????? Who knows. My father in law died years but I married. Search is on. Will add more later.

Family history has it that Elvis Heath was living in Arkansas and working as a revenuer and was killed while on duty, sometime in the mid to late 1920's. I know that he was living in Moro, Lee County, in 1910, when he returned to Kentucky to marry Dollie Lindsey. I am assuming he returned to AR at that time.

I would appreciate any help anyone could give regarding this incident, or any other information about Elvis Heath. We do not know for certain whether he was returned to Kentucky for burial or is buried there.

My grandfather Andrew Washington Triplett b.25 Dec. 1860, married Virginia Ella Wilson b.May 1862. There were numerous children. I know of Columbus, Jesse,Rosa,William, Elizabeth(Lizzie)Octie,Dovie and my father Hayes Albert. Grandmother died when my father was born and my grandfather then married Nancy Ann Jeffcoat Johnson. They had a son Garland who lived in Marrianna until he passed away 5 June, 1988. I know that Andy's father was named William Louis Triplett and he was born in So.Carolina as was Andy. I would
appreciate any information about this family. Especially about William Louis Triplett as I know hardly anything of him or his wife and other children. He may have served in the Civil War but I have been unable to find him listed anywhere. Also Information of the Wilson family. I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!

Does anyone have information on the above named couple. Jesse was born in East Feliciana Parish, LA 3/21/1897. His mother, Sarah Lucnda Palmer Montgomery died the following year. Apparently his father left the area prior to 1900 with Jesse.

I have found Jesse and his father Calvin Edwin Montgomery in Tensas Parish LA in 1920. In 1930 I find Jese and his wife Mary Nell Latta in Lee County, AR living with her father Benjamin Latta and wife Elizabeth. Mary Nell and Jesse were married in Lee County, AR 11/5/1924.

Were there any children? Any info on this couple would be most appreciated.

John Holloway and Sarah Click - cemetery & marriage look up please help

This family came originally from Cocke Co Tenn and went through Giles/Marshall Co Tenn prior to moving to Arkansas.

John Holloway died 1916 in Lee Co. and his wife Sarah Click Whitson Holloway died sometime between 1900 and 1910. Sarah was married 1st to Eli Whitson and had at least one daughter Sadie Whitson b abt 1872 who married J W Dennis in Monroe Co 1894 and was listed as a widow in 1900. Would like to see if someone can find a marriage record for Sadie Whitson Dennis between 1900/1910 or death record.

Would like to have cemetery look up for John Holloway and Sarah "Sallie" Click Whitson. John was born 1850/1852 and Sarah was born abt 1854. Any marriages for any of the following children

I would greatly appreciate a marriage record lookup(or obit) for Robert Lee Tiller. Robert was born 1/Nov/1878 Phillips Co.Ar. He was living in Lee Co.in 1910 census. According to his WW1 draft card, he was married to a Viola, and still living in Lee Co. in Sept/1918.

Looking for any information about George Higgins b. abt. 1857 and the 1920 census for Lee Co. Lists his wife but I cannot read the name she was born in MS, George was listed as being born in GA. I have a lot of the info. from him til today. I think he was buried in the old Higgins cemmetary that is near Bear Creek. He owned the property where Bear Creek is located and a portion of the ground around Bear Creek until the state decided to buy this ground and make Bear Creek sometime after the 30's I believe.

Mary Sylar Fant (1863 - aft. 1936)

I'm looking for information on Mary Sylar who was the second child of Andrew L. Sylar and his first wife, Rebecca Amanda Rhodes. Rebecca died shortly after Mary was born.

On the 1900 Lee county census, an Andrew Sylar, age 19, is living in the household of Harrison Roden and is his brother-in-law. Harrison's wife is named Mary and is the right age for Mary Sylar. Also in the household is Harrison's son, and a step-son named "Loveliss" who is only a year older. I'm wondering if Mary Sylar first married a Lovelace/Loveless, and then Harrison Roden.

In 1936, when Richard L. Sylar died, his obituary mentions a surviving sister, Mary Fant.

Anybody have some information?

I am trying to connect with anyone who may know about a Theodore R. Lee, who was born in Arkansas about 1901. He eventually, went to Colorado and married a Rosalie Sheldon in 1926. In the 1930 Census, Theodore R. Lee and Rosalie (Sheldon) Lee are living in Berkeley, Jefferson County, Colorado ( Incorporated area of Mountain View Town).

Rosalie was born in Nebraska about 1907, and her parents were born in Illinois. Theodore's parents were born in Arkansas.

DOROTHY ELLEN MINICK, a 48-6year resident of the San Bernardino area, peacefully passed away July 18 at her home in Rialto, CA with all her family at her bedside. Born in 1924, Dorothy grew up on a small farm in Morrow, Arkansas, lived through the Depression, married Bob Minick in 1943, had her first of 4 children in 1944, lived for a time at Fort Dix during World War II, returning to Arkansas at the end of the war. In 1956 the family moved to California, where she and her husband became active members of the community.

After earning a BA in Art History in 1974 from CSUSB, Dorothy worked as a substitute teacher for a while. Shortly thereafter, she ran Minick’s Barn Restaurant for 12 years, a once well-known landmark in Rialto. Always exhibiting a strong creative side, Dorothy played the piano as a young girl in Arkansas, was for a time an avid quilter and ceramicist, and recently taught herself to play the mandolin. Her favorite activity throughout life was to work on building projects with her family. In the last decade, she invested much study in her personal quest to find the common ground between the secular and the spiritual. She and her husband are members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Montclair, and the Inland Freethinkers. She was admired and loved by everyone who knew her.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Bob and their 4 children, Roger, Mary, Alecia and Storm, 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren (with one on the way). Ok...Im a newbie at this. Can someone tell me how I would get a copy of a birth record or death record if I dont have the dates? Can vital records do searches such as this??

Im trying to find out about the birth and death of my great aunt. She was either born in Marrianna or Brickeys Ark. Her name was Sammy Lee Kennedy (unk if first name is Samantha) and born btw 1933-1936 and died at 9 months old. I do not know where she is buried other than Ark..and she does not have a headstone. Her mother was Annie Lee Elmore, and father was Samual Oscar Kennedy.

Can anyone help me find information about my ggm. My information is scanty. Her name was Sallie Johnson (or variations). She married Morris Fennell in 1888 (Union Co.). She died around 1899. She is reported to be Cherokee or part Cherokee, "adopted" as in infant by the Johnson family. Possibly "Trail of Tears".....????

I'm looking for a death date for Edna Estelle Gibson who married Thomas Earl Hawkins. I have that she was born 19 MAR 1871 in La Grange, Lee County, Arkansas and died in Marianna, Lee County, Arkansas, and is buried in Sunset Park, at Barton, Arkansas.

I don't have dates for Thomas Earl Hawkins, and would love those as well. I looked for them on the 1920 and 1930 census, but only found a T. E. Hawkins, married to another younger woman in Marianna. I wonder whether Edna Estelle divorced him.

I have a Henry Williams that is found on the 1920 census for Marianna, AR, living with a Chinese family, the Sunn family. I've learned that he changed his name to Henry Williams and that his parents were dead before he was grown. From the census he was born around 1900 in Lee county, AR. He moved with the Chinese family to St. Louis, was a bartender, lived on Lafayette St. He was an uncle to Cleola Higgins Anderson Clarke. He was Catholic and died somewhere around late 50's early 60's. His sister, Pearl, was Clea's mother and died at age 20 when Clea was only 2. I'm stumped trying to find out what Henry and Pearl's parents name was. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I've been told a variety of possible surnames for Henry before he changed his name to Williams but can't prove anything.

My name is David Simmons. Seeking information about great grandfather's family from TN & AR. Walter Dixon Simmons relocated from TN to St. Francis County, AR in early 1900s. He had a brother, Charlie Simmons. He married Jimel French and lived at Palestine and Goodwin, AR having children; Dorothy, Maxine, Bobby Jean, Nellie "Tincey", and my grandfather, James Albert Simmons, who was born 1937. Walter Dixon worked many years for the highway dept and later farmed. Jimel French Simmons had other sets of half siblings from her father's marriages in Arkansas; Reeves, Thigpens. Is there anyone that can do a look up for me?

I am looking for the family of Henry J. Payne b 19 May 1880 Mississippi died 15 April 1966 married to Ollie B. Click b. abt June 1893 Arkansas. They had at least one daughter Annie Belle Payne born abt 1917. They also may have had a daughter, Lena Payne. They lived in Marianna and he owned a general store.

He also was a director of the First National Bank when it opened in 1934.

Ollie was the daughter of George Click and his wife Martha Allen who died in the late 1890's and they may possibly be buried there. After their deaths the children were raised by John Holloway and his wife Sarah Allen supposedly Martha Allen Click's sister.

Ollie Click had a sister Cora Lee who moved to Oklahoma, a sister Della b abt Aug 1889, brother Arthur who moved to Chicago, Ill working on the railroad. It is thought that Della died in Marianna.

Would like to have marriage and burial records. Thank you

Hi! I'm trying to track down my grandparents in the 1930 census. 2 down and 2 to go. Anyway, I'm pretty sure my grandma was born in Lee County in 1922 and then the family stayed there at least until after my mom was born in 1948 so I am thinking that my grandma should be in the Lee County census. I checked all of Marianna city and no luck. What I am thinking is that possibly grandma's family was in a surrounding township of Marianna as this is what happened when looking for my grandpa's family in Polk County, AR.

Does anyone know the townships that surround Marianna? Thanks.

I am searching for information on the descendants of Elbert and Eunice Calvert White. The last record we have of Elbert and Eunice – as well as several of their 15 children – is the 1860 Polk Co., census. However by 1870 some of these boys were located in Van Buren Co, and 1880 in Faulkner Co., with their families.
But since most of the girls would have married in the 1840s, 50s, and maybe 60s, and many courthouses were burned since that time, we have not been able to locate marriage records, therefore do not have surnames to work with.
So, I am sending out a plea to anyone who thinks they might be descended from one of the following to get in touch with me.

Does anyone have access to the 1900 Census for Lee or the State of Arkansas? I am looking for Emma J. (Janette) MASTERSON. She may have been from Colorado or Missouri. I believe she was born in 1873. She married William M. JONES in 1902 in Lee County. She died in 1909. The State of Arkansas did not keep vital records that early. I have not had any luck at all trying to find her. According to one of her children's birth delayed birth records, she was "from" Colorado but she may have just been living there before moving to Arkansas. I have found no records for a Masterson in that state.

We do know that James married Nancy Jane Garner before 1882. Their first child, Mary Myrtle Curliss was born in Yell Co. in 1882.
