I am not related to your family BUT I thought you might like a little history on Laurence Co., AR
In 1838 the Cherokee Indian tribes passed through Laurence Co in 1838 on the Trail of Tears. With few exceptions all Native Americans subject to Indian Removal came through AR in 1838. The Cherokee were not natived to AR. Around 1000 Indians under the Ross command were escorted by John Benge, they departed GA Oct 1, 1838, & passed through Batesville & Strawberry & Fayetteville on the way to Oklahoma.
THis information is in book: The Promisland: The Cherokees, Arkansas, & Removal, 1838. By C R Logan
Our families have something in common: We also have a Cherokee connection, Adeline Burr from Laurence Co., AR
Family folk lore say she was Cherokee, but no records have been found to prove this leaving us to wonder, was her family desendents of the Trail of Tears, what other reason would a Cherokee be in Laurence Co., AR
lsanders from Texas
