Would like to correspond with any descendent of Jasper Rudolph Chastain. WWII registration stated he was born in Cobb County GA and lived in Stamps AR in 1942. The person listed as always knowing where he would be was Bertha, which I guess was his wife. He was born 1 May 1885 and died in Nov 1974 and Bertha was born 8 Jan 1898 and died 5 June 1996. They are buried in Stamps-Lakeside Cemetery.

I am not 100% sure of Bertha's birth and death information.
I could have picked up information on the wrong Bertha.

Alice

PRATT family of Lafayette & Miller Co., AR

Looking for contact to share information about:

Victor PRATT and his family of Lafayette & Miller Co., AR. Victor was born in 1822-1842 in either AR or LA. In 1870, he was living in Lafayette Co.(Roane Twp.) with his wife, Martha A.(she was age 32 b. AR & he was 35? b. LA).

Victor married in Lafayette Co. in 28 March 1868 to Martha Ann RILEY..... also known as Emaline PRATT.

1880 census finds him (age 50..clear on census, b. LA)in Miller Co., AR in Cutoff Twp. living with his wife, Martha A. E. (age 27 b. AR) and their children: Beulah, 5, b. ca. 1875; Victor, 3, b. ca. 1877; and Polite, 1, b. ca. 1879 ...... all b. in AR. Also living with them is Victor's father-in-law, S. B. RILEY.

Martha Ann only aged 5 years in the ten years between 1870 and 1880 census while Victor seems to have aged 15 years. Go figure. These two censuses are the only two censuses in which I could locate Victor PRATT. I have not found his parents.

Victor PRATT was a Justice of the Peace in Miller Co., AR in 1881, and was indicted for malfeasance in office for not filing proper abstracts with the court for all misdeminors tried before him in 1881.

Victor PRATT died on 2 JAN 1884 in Miller Co., AR.

Victor's widow, Martha Ann Emmaline RILEY PRATT married her second husband Antoine SILVIA on 29 MAR 1885 in Miller Co., AR.

Victor and Martha Ann's daughter Beulah PRATT m. in 1894 to John ANDERSON. She married again and was living in San Jacinto Co., TX in 1920 and being called "Maggie". She was living with husband, Dan BARNETT, and daughter, Ira (age 7).

Victor and Martha Ann's son, Ney PRATT, may have been named Marshall Ney PRATT and he married about 1910 to Wille Mae RICHIE.

Nothing further found on Victor and Martha Ann's child Polite PRATT. I would like more information on Polite PRATT if anyone could help me.

I am trying to find the parents of this Victor PRATT, who was born in either AR or LA between 1822-1842. Can you help?

Graves of Eliza Ann Browder and Children

I am searching for information on the graves of Eliza Ann Browder and her 4 children. She and her husband, Martin Van Buren Browder, left Florida and headed to Texas about 1874. Allegedly, Eliza and 4 children died of swamp fever along the way. I can find no documentation, explaination nor reasoning as to why they were in Arkansas. Family lore says that Martin buried his wife and 4 children in a "common grave" and fenced it off with cypress wood. He then continued on to Texas with his young daughter Belle Matilda. No word as to weather or not he left any other defining information on the grave.

Thanks,

Vickie
MBrowder53190@aol.com
He died July 29, 1864 of measles at age 18. Any help appreciated.

However, I haven't found anyone by that name residing in Lafayette County.

I did find a Mary M. Rich listed in the 1850 Census for Lafayette County as age 2 - that would pretty closely match the above individual. However, she is listed below a John K and Margaret L.M. Rich - one would presume they are her parents.

I'd appreciate any information on the Rich Family of Lewisville, Lafayette County, Arkansas.

Thanks!
Al Hays

I am looking for the ancestry of my father, Lester Thomas Bandy. He lived in Lafayette County most, if not all, of his life. His parents, James Edward Bandy, born Nov.12,1876, and died Feb.12,1928, and Bessie Ann Wilkins, born Sept. 27, 1887, and died Oct. 16,1933, lived near Taylor, AR, in the Walkers Creek community near what is now Lake Erling. They died when my father was quite young so he never knew much about his lineage. My dad died in 1979 and is buried in Stateline Cemetary on Lake Erling. My grandparents are buried in Spring Branch Cemetary near Springhill, LA, in Columbia County. If you have any information that might be useful to me in my search, please contact me at peggyjbrown@gateway.net or mail to me at Peggy Brown, 10152 Gramling Rd., Rogers, AR 72756.

Jack Hollis posted a Cox message board query about Thomas E. Cox of Lafayette County AR in July 2000 that I just now found... but the return email address doesn't work!! I'm very anxious to locate Jack Hollis and more about Thomas. This was Jack's wife's ancestor, who lived in Lagrange Township and was the son of John Cox. This Thomas E. Cox was a brother to my gg-grandfather in Hempstead County AR (later became Nevda County) in Caruse/Redland Township. We've
never known anything about Thomas until Jack Hollis made known his whereabouts. If anyone knows more about Thomas or how to contact Jack Hollis or Jack's present-day family, please let us know. Thanks!

I am searching for family of, or information on James D. Campbell, Born April 1860, and died March 10, 1927, in Lafayette Co. Arkansas. He married Jimima Brown, Sept. 3, 1884. He was a son of William Lindsey Campbell, who died in the Civil War. I am doing research on my Campbell line and William Lindsey was a brother of James H. Campbell, Almarine Campbell Cranford, Elizabeth C.Reynolds, Martha Carraway, and my great grandmother, Maranda Campbell Eppinette. The Campbell Brothers, James H. and William Lindsey, and their sister Martha and her husband, Charles Reynolds, moved from Morehouse Parish La. to Hempstead Co in the 1850s. If anyone can help or put me in contact with any of the Campbell decendents, I would greatly appreciate it.
Pat

I need a copy of the marriage record for:
STUCKEY, Nathan P., 40, to Sarah BRIDGES, 30; 07 Feb 1864, by J. M. Patterson, MG, Book 2, 130.

Some of the transcribed indexes found online and in a few books has this marriage listed as:

STUCKEY, Matthew P. 40, to Sarah PATTERSON, 30; 07 Feb 1864, by J. M. Patterson, MG, Book 2, 130.

I think the transcribers got this one confused and listed Sarah with the MG's surname.

I will need just a black & white copy of the marriage entry and possibly a copy of the book's cover (or front material) for the source record.

I will pay for you for the copies, postage, etc...

Please respond either here or directly to me at: laskowv@earthlink.net

Thanks...Valerie

Can someone help me find the death information on Wm Whit or Whitmill Tanner. In 1900 he owned land in Steele Township. I found a land record dated 12 March 1894 for 160.28 acres. I am not sure this is my William, I believe there were 2 during this time period and area. My William was the son of Logan M Tanner and Nancy Bunes or Burns. I think he died before 1910 because he wife Josephine married Elijah Holloway and lived in McCurtain OK. His youngest child was born in 1902. Will someone please lookup his death record? Land sale after his death ? I do not live near and need some help.
Thank you, Tiffany

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
He was married to Carrie L Langford (1915). I am trying my best to locate his family through the census but having
problems on which Patton to select. If anyone could help me find his family or him on the Census...I would appreicate it. thanks.

I am searching for some one who knew George and Elizabeth Hutcheson or their only child, Ruth who lived in Bucker, AR. All are deceased but Ruth had some interesting family history documents (her mother was a Flow) prior to her death and I would love to know what happened to her research. Ruth was a professor at Purdue University so I have checked at the library there and the University of AR just in case she left her work to the school but did not find it. Perhaps someone on the Hutcheson side might know what happened to her research and help me out. She also had the Flow family Bible when her ancestors lived in North Carolina. I would love to know what happened to that Bible. Can anyone in that county help me?

Thanks,
Gail in Charlotte, NC

We've been searching for information about these families who lived in Lafayette County.

John A Jones (b 1877, c 1964) who married Johanna Nolte Coker and lived on a farm outside Bradley. Johanna's parents emigrated to the US and settled outside Walkers Creek. John A. Jones was previously married to Blanche Markland in Union County, AR. John and Blanche had three children: Jack, Lois and Elizabeth. John and Johanna had one child, Lewis. Johanna had two children from her marriage with John R Coker of Fouke: John and George Patrick. Anyone know anything about Mr. Jones' parents and siblings?

George Pennie Snead (b 1880, c 1943) is a mystery to us and any information would be most appreciated. Supposedly he was born in Lafayette County, but his parents were from Louisiana. He married Clara Adams. They lived in Bradley and had two children: Reggie and Nanette. Clara's mother, Lena Baker Adams, started the Adams Hotel in Bradley. Clara took over the Hotel when her mother could no longer run it.

We are also looking for information about Clara's parents: Charles Rogers Adams (b 1860, d 1900) and Lena Baker (b 1865, d 1927).
Cemeteries near Walnut Hill/ Bradley

I am looking for the burial site of my husbands baby brother who was born and died 11-15-1925. The death certificate says place of burial was Walnut Hill, Lafayette Co. AR. A Dr. Hammond of Bradley was the Dr. and J.D. Hanson of Bradley was the undertaker. If anyone has cemetery records we would very much like to know where he is buried. His name was J.D. GODWIN. He may or may not have a marker. My husbands father put markers on his wife and another child that died in Bowie Co., TX some years after they died. We feel like he may have placed a marker on J.D.'s grave also, but we are not sure. He was buried the next day after he died according to the death certificate. Any help would be very much appreciated. Pat and Jack Godwin
Bridges & Stuckey in Brightstar, Arkansas 1860-1870

I am looking for more information on Thomas W Bridges, b: 1822, Jackson, Alabama, d: 1861, Brightstar, Lafayette, Arkansas -- supposedly in Civl War. He was married to Sarah Jane Newman. I have her information, but nothing surrounding the death of Thomas W Bridges, who is supposedly buried in Brightstar.

Sarah, now widowed with 6 children, remarried Nathan P Stuckey I'm told on 2 Feb 1864 in Lafayette, Arkansas. They had 4 children of their own. They are on the 1870 census for Lafayette. Nathan was the son of William Stuckey, and brother of Dr. Stephen John Stuckey. I believe Brightstar was actually called "Stuckeyville" early on - then changed later on.

If anyone can help me with finding information on Thomas W Bridges, 1822 -1861, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks..

I'm in search of any information on John Hawkins, the father of Martha Hawkins Sparrow. John Hawkins appears in the 1860 Lafayette Co. census, La Grange Twp., p. 23. Newport and Martha Sparrow and their daughter, Susan A., appear the same year in Walker's Creek Twp., p. 27. John Hawkins and Martha are recorded in 1850 in Monroe County, MS. John Hawkins was in Union District, SC in 1820, 1830, and 1840.

I have a letter from Hawkins dated Feb 1861 in Lafayette County, AR. to my GG grandfather, John C. Brown in Lowndes County, MS. The salutation reads "Dear Cousin." Hawkins was born about 1796 in SC, Brown in 1833, 37 years later. If I could figure out how Hawkins was John C. Brown's cousin, it might help unravel the mystery of who John Brown's parents were.

I know someone out there can help me with these men. Andrew died in Columbia Co. AR in 1884. John, his son was in the Civil War. I find John in the 1880 Census, but nothing about where he is buried. His son, Walter was married in 1900 to Cassie Harris. They had 2 sons, Ervin and Ira, then he disappears. Can't find out where Walter is buried or anything. Cassie remarried in 1906, so Walter disappeared after Ervin was conceived. Ervin was born in 1903. My dad is Ira's son. Walter's marriage certificate lists his home in Plainfield, south of Walkerville in Columbia Co. AR They were all in the Mississippi Township in that Co.
I am director of Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives in Washington, AR. We have thousands of sources for genealogists. We recently received a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities titled “A Searchable Database of all Schools since Arkansas Statehood in 1836 in Twelve SW Arkansas Counties.” Those counties are Columbia, Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada, Ouachita, Pike, Polk, Sevier, and Union. Go to our website, www.southwestarchives.com and click School Project to see the names of schools from GNIS (National Geological Survey) in those counties. We already have many more schools to add to the list. If you have any information about a school that you could share with us, please write to me at friley@southwestarchives.com. Our grant is for $20,982 which we matched with $20,982 with donations from groups and individuals including the Arkansas History Commission, South Arkansas History Foundation, Friends of SARA, and Military Road DAR.
