I have never found out why they had such an influx to the area at the time period. No much in the way of railroad, but lots of cotton land and black land farming.
I know my LA folks (J.Frank Grigg's parents) left NC in 1860 or so to get away from the carpetbaggers of the Civil War and made their way to LA.Several families settled the same area together.
