I don't know why but I have a few ideas. My family came to Texas about 1895. There had been a terrific recession during this time called the Panic of 1893. Cotton prices were really low. My great grandfather's brother had move to Hunt county area with his father-in-law and family and evidently like what he saw, came back sold his property in Arkansas and went back. About this time a sister moved to Lamar Co. and another moved to Little River Co. and one or two just disappeared. The land around Commerce where my family settled is sandy land and until the steel plow came about ( I'm not sure when) then the black land was too hard to plow with a traditional wooden plow. Also, if you have visted that part of Arkansas and Texas, you can see that Texas area has a lot better cotton territory and I beleive that the lumber companies were buying up a lot of land in Arkansas. Anyway I hope this makes a little sense. Martey
