Classification: Query
Reference: Isabella (Berry) King/Sooter or Suter/Simpson

Here are four (4) sources of information on Isabella (10 Mar 1778 - 26 Nov 1858):

(A) Johnson County Historical Society Journal, October 1979, p. 3.

Has the "Bible Record of Isabella Berry." A list of all of her children (seven) from her first marriage (1) in 1797 (TN) to James King (1775-1819). Also states she married (2) Leonard Sooter in Dickson Co., TN on 20 Jan 1822. Then states she married (3) Samuel Simpson in Johnson Co., AR on 4 Jan 1847.

(B) Johnson County Historical Society Journal, April 1995, p. 24.

It is a query from Melba Hobbs seeking information on "Isabella (Berry) King-Suter-Simpson-Leonard Sutter(Suter)." She states, "... Isabela's and Leonard Suter's divorce."

(C) Johnson County Historical Society Journal, April 1996, p. 49.

An Ancestor Tree/Chart of Ruby Mae Chandler (1902-1962) . It has Elizabeth (Simpson) Sutter/Sooter (1868-1938) as her grandmother and William Herbert Sutter/Sooter (1848-1890) as her grandfather. Ruby's mother was "Ida Lee Suter/Sooter (1868-1938)" and her father was "Pryor Lee Shields Chandler (1860-1934)."

NOTE: The above publications can be obtained at www.jocohc.com. Also, if you live near Clarksville, AR, you can visit the Johnson County Historical Heritage Center which has all of these documents, plus much much more.

(D) Find a Grave member (#: 46972611) Frances Lee (Allen) Titsworth.

She is the 4th great-granddaughter of Isabella Berry. Look at Ms. Titsworth's memorial (#: 30590871, 14 Oct 2008, Franklin Co., AR) on her maternal grandmother, "Altie Theo (Rogers) Curtis (1898-1975)." Isabella (on the King line) is the 2nd great-grandmother of Altie. At this site you can get in touch with Ms. Titsworth. She currently has contributed 45,268 memorials to Find a Grave, so she should be a great source of "Berry/Sooter/Suter/Sutter" family history.

Question: Is the "William Herbert Sutter/Sooter" mentioned in (C) above the same one as your "William Herbert Suter" whose mother was Isabella? If so then the dates are off somewhere. Since Isabella is listed as being born in 1778 in (A) and William in (C) above is listed as being born in 1848, which means Isabella would have been 70 years old at the time of his birth??

All of the dates and other information comes from the above resources and I have not researched their authenticity. These individuals are not in my direct line and therefore, I'm not currently researching them.

Hope the information above will be of some use to you in your future research.

Good Luck.
