In researching quilts of the early 1800s I've found that a cowboy's bedroll was made of sturdy fabric and called a suggan ( spelling variations: suggin, sugan). This rough bedding was used by a men in a variety of occupations, including lumberjacks & trappers. While looking up those specific words I found a description of a blanket as being like an Irish suggin.
