This Blount Bullock was a son of “Balaam” Bullock who I believe is descended from my Bullock family line that originated in the 1600’s in old Surry/Sussex County, VA. Blunt Bullock was in Pike County, AR by the 1850 census and lived his remaining adult life in that part of Pike County that became Howard County in 1873. I believe my grandfather may be buried there but I live too far away to visit and it has not been transcribed anywhere that I can find.

His name was Nathaniel Green Boles, he usually went by Green Boles. Died in the 20s born apr 1977.

I can pay a reasonable fee to visit and take photos. It is very close to Center Point in Howard County.

Wilhelm gored by bull in Perkins/Parkins, AR

My great-grandfather was supposedly gored by a bull in Arkansas. Records list Parkins, AR, as a place of death but I can find no mention of Parkins ..... even in old records. Could is be Perkins? His date of death was 27 Sep 1928. His name was John Wilhelm. He may be referred to as a man from Missouri. Can anyone help me?

Looking to share information on Miller family. Isham or Isom Miller, born about 1812 in SC or TN, migrated to Alabama by ca 1834, to Miss by ca 1836. He was first in Neshoba Co. then in Leake Co. His wife Elizabeth also born SC. Known children are Moses, James, Cintha, Margaret, Gilbert, Joel, and Emma Adeline. Isham/Isom said to have been shot by carpetbaggers as he repaired the roof of his barn in Leake, Co., Miss following the Civil War. By 1880 his daughter Emma Adeline was in Howard Co., AR married to Thomas Jefferson Hogan. The Millers may be related to the Gorden/Gordon family.

I am seeking obits for the following couple:
Earnest Lewis Goss, died 11 July 1971, and his wife:
Elatha (Ralls) Goss, died 7 Feb 1984.
Both are buried in Athens Cemetery according to the cemetery transcription.

I believe the parents of Ernest were Bluford A. & Caroline (Davis) Goss.

Searching for family of Hattie (Robinson) Cook and Joseph S. Cook (a.k.a. Sidney Cook).

I have reason to believe that Hattie Cook is the daughter of Jemima (Brown) Robinson, my Great Aunt. From additional records I have found I think Jemima Brown’s first marriage was to a Scott Robinson (a.k.a. Winfield Scott Robison/Robinson). Her second marriage was to William Saunders in Cole County Missouri.

Jemima Brown was the daughter of Annanias and Nancy Brown. Jemima was born in Tennessee in about 1861. Her siblings are Noah Brown, Mary Jane (Brown) Puckett, Danison Brown, Amanda (Brown) Menley, George Leander Brown, Martha Brown, and Tillman Rufus Brown. Note: My line descends from George Leander Brown.

I have traced Hattie (Robinson) Cook through census records from 1900 through 1930. I have also found a Social Security Death Index record for a Hattie Cook, born May 1883 and died January 1968 (age 85 at time of death), which matches with the census records I have found.

The additional fact that Hattie Cook and her brother Harley Robinson appear together on 3 of the 4 census records would indicate a family relationship also.

White Families in Muddy Ford, Howard Co 1880

My grt gf Wm I (Isiah or Isaac) Cogburn was living with step-father Adam F. Whisenhunt and mother Luisa A. White Cogburn Whisenhunt in Muddy Fork 1880. Not only do I have no name nor anything on his father, Unknown Cogburn; but do not yet have Luisa's family either.

Next door to them in the '80 census is Isaac & wife Luisa A of an age could be my Luisa's parents. With the names Isaac & Luisa as well as living next door I surely wonder if I can't tie them to my White line. I had just the other night, however, found a Luisa of appropriate age in Hunt Co TX with James & Sarah White family. Luisa was b in TX 1854; also she and Adam went to Hunt Co after leaving Ark, prior to moving on and settling in Taylor Co.

Also in Muddy Fork 1880 are households of Lawson & Meanda White and Joshua & Luanner(?) White. These men would be appropriately aged to be my grt-grt gm's brothers??

I'm wondering if anyone might know about these White families and could provide more information on them that might assist me either in connecting them to my White line or information that would help me decide they do not connect. I would appreciate anything at all. These clues seem promising but I don't know enough about my grt-grt gm to know what to do with them! All I "know" is that we think she had a brother named Gerd/Jerd who probably was also out in west TX at some point and that there were two brothers named Charlie and Ed White who came around the family (one at least lived in Willacy Co, TX) in the 1930's who we think are probably Luisa's nephews.

(Her first husband was Henry Marshall Vaughn). Charles and Betty had at least two children: Mary Elizabeth Williams, b. 1/5/1863, d. 11/15/51 (my G Grandmother) and Joseph Neal Williams, b. 8/6/1870, d. 1/8/1941. Both children were born in Howard County.

old house in Nashville

this is a shot in the dark, but i thought i'd ask........

when i lived in Nashville (1982-1987) we lived at one time in a large old house on the corner of Shepard & 4th streets (about 2 blocks from the elementary school.) I was told once that it had been used as a hospital at one time. it still had a "hitching post" on the 4th Street side of the house. had a round porch on the 4th street side, with stained glass windows. when i lived in it, it had been converted into a duplex.

was wondering if anyone had any idea who built it, or if it had a name. i'd think it to be one of the oldest houses in Nashville if i had to guess.

just curious about it's history......

I'm looking for an obituary of my g-grandfather George Kib Tipton, (G.K. Tipton) sometimes called Darb. He died Aug. 20, 1940 near Nashville, Howard Co., AR. Is buried in County Line Cemetery, Howard Co., AR.
They used the Latimer funeral home, but they say there records don't go that for back. Also there is no record for a death cet. So would really like an obituary if there is one.

I am director of Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives in Washington, AR. We have thousands of sources for genealogists. We recently received a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities titled “A Searchable Database of all Schools since Arkansas Statehood in 1836 in Twelve SW Arkansas Counties.” Those counties are Columbia, Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada, Ouachita, Pike, Polk, Sevier, and Union. Tucker Family in early to mid 1800s in Arkansas?

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!

James was married twice.His first wife is listed as Betty Shofner on a son's death certificate. Son James Wilson was born at Centre Point. Second wife was Ann E. -Mr. Alonzo WINCHESTER, who went from this community to Texas several years ago, but who recently removed from that State to Arkansas, is reported as being in a very precarious condition with cancer of the face.

-Mr. Alonzo WINCHESTER, formerly of this county, died at his home at Allbrook, Ark., on the 5th inst., of cancer, at the age of 52 years. He moved from Mineral Springs to Arkansas several years ago, and was a good citizen. He was a son of Wm. E. WINCHESTER.

Looking for descendants of Thos Reams. I believe he may be linked to my Reeme family. Several children on this family were orphaned between 1860-70 in Marion Co AR when their father John Reeme and stepmother Mary died...the younger children were taken in by various families.

On the Howard Co AR 1900 census, I cannot make out name of Thos' wife, but it appears to be "Terriline"? The children are Mary F., Elizabeth and Daniel/or David.

Minnie J. Ralls with her 8 children are living in Choctaw County, Oakes Township, Oklahoma.
Still listed as married ; but where is James Benton Ralls; her husband?
By the 1920 census, Minnie & her children are still living in Choctaw County, Oakes Township, but now is widowed.
If some one has info to fill in the blanks on James Benton Ralls; I would be grateful.

I have a relative who I believe emigrated in 1893, he appears in the 1910 Michigan KENT 9-WD GRAND RAPIDS census with his brother and family.

I have found I believe his death and SSDI no: 429-74-0964 71851 Mineral Springs Howard AR b: 07.11.1883 d: Dec 1966.

Is there any SKS who can let me know if Thomas appears in any Arkansas census info after 1910, is it possible to find a wife and family? (if he had any).

Is there a family history society who may have newspaper obituaries for this area?

I'm looking for information on James Howard. My grandmother married a James Howard in Arkansas, and had one daughter. The family moved to California and they had another daughter, my mother Carla Byers Howard. James left my grandmother shortly after my mother was born. We have no information except his name and birth date (which I could
get you from my mother). My grandmother is around appr 80 if that helps. He was also in the military (my grandmother has 2 photos, one is a serivce picture. From this I would guess he was in the Korean War (?). James eventually moved back to Arkansas and according to rumor had another family. I do not want to cause any problems for anybody. We would just like some information for our family records. I would at least like to pass on information about his granchildren and great grandchildren. If you think you may be able to help me, pease let me know. Again, my grandmother did a wonderful job raising her family and I do not want anything from him, just information.

William Johnson married M Jane Beeker 1854 in Washington Co., AR. By 1870, they were listed in Mine Creek Township of Hempstead Co., AR. In 1880, they were listed in Mineral Springs, Howard Co., AR.

William filed for a confederate pension in 1897 Howard Co.,AR. William and Jane's children included: Mary Jane, Margarette E, Louisa C, Melrosa, and Perry L.

Mary Jane may have married Rufus Simmons or Henry C Croften.

Found a record of Matilda Jane Johnson (1839-1896) in Mineral Springs Cemetery. She was listed as the wife of Wm. The dates are right for the Jane Beeker Johnson I seek. Anyone have information concerning this woman?

Have two pictures one of a lady who is Angeline 'Angie' Pool Wells and the other is of her son Eddie Wells. Nashville Art Co is on the bottom of the pictures. At first I thought only of Nashville, Tennessee and then realized that there was a Nashville, Ark. CHANDLER in Howard Co (Centre Point) in 1880. Are Sarah CLIFT and Mary M CHANDLER buried in Howard Co? On the 1850 census for Tippah County, Mississippi
John Timmons & Temperance Stafford and children in house # 493
Except son Isaac Timmons & Jane Bird & family in house # 492
And son Daniel BG Timmons & Mary Ann Ford & family in house # 494

The only other Timmons in Tippah County was in house # 429 or some 64 houses away: Samuel R. Timmons 26 SC Laborer. He was in the household of John M. & Serena A. Finger and their 4 children and may have been a brother of Serena A. Finger making her Serena A. Timmons.

I believe that Samuel R. Timmons and possibly Serena A Finger (Timmons) may have been a nephew and niece of John Timmons and 1st cousins of the children of John Timmons & Temperance Stafford.

Another interesting note is that sometime between 1850 and 1856 Daniel BG Timmons moved to Mineral Springs, Arkansas and in 1860 homesteaded 200 acres of land within a few miles of Mineral Springs, Arkansas or Township 10 South, Range 28 West. A Samuel R. Timmons also homesteaded 320 acres within 3 to 4 miles of the Daniel BG Timmons property.

The last two items are fairly convincing that Samuel R. Timmons and possibly Serena A. Timmons were relatives of the John Timmons family. My believe is that they may be a nephew and niece of John Timmons. I have not seen a genealogy for Samuel R. Timmons nor the John M. & Serena A. Finger family thus I can't be very sure of this.

In the marriage records it has Permelia as age 18 from Mineral Springs, Howard Co., Ar. Their children were RosaLee, Archie P., Dave, Henry Harrison, and DeeDee.
The 1880 census shows her to have been born in AR.
She died between 1898 and 1900.

I am seeking information about James G. and Mary Francis (Patterson) Sanders who are found in Howard Co., AR. census records 1900 and 1910. In 1880 they were in Calhoun Co., AR., Polk Township. Children: Mary E., Geroge M. (married Willie Anna "Roseanna" Goss), John F., Issac N. "Doc", Cynthia K. (married William D. Duncan, physician) and Martha A. "Mattie" (married a Best.)

I am looking for relatives of my father Clarence Davis, Jr. or anyone who knows anything about them. He was from Helena, Phillips co. Arkansas from 1900 to 1930. His relatives that I know of were:

Aunts--Mary Davis b, 1871
Lou Ida Davis b. 1875
Mattie Davis b. 1876
Father--Clarence Davis b. 1880
Mother--Mary Anderson
Brother--Andrew Pickett Davis
1st wife--Queen Ester died circa 1938-40
Daughter--Ann or Annie b. before 1932

My father and his brother moved to Mississippi in the late 20's or early 30's. His wife and daughter stayed in Arkansas. The wife died and the daughter was raised by an Aunt who took her to Detroit, MI.
If anyone knows anything about any of these people, please let me know.

1880 Howard Co. Census Mix-up

Has anyone else noticed the 1880 Howard County Census mix-up here at Ancestry? If you are looking for relatives in Madison & Muddy Fork, ed #114, you are completely out of luck. If you go to this ed, you will find you are viewing Izard Co., ed # 86, and then it suddenly changes to Jackson County. Ancestry has been notified of this problem, but they have merely ignored it. Why pay for a membership, when the information is wrong and the organization makes no attempt to correct it?

Searching for information on the Harpool family of Howard County. My great great grandmother was Mattie Harpool born circa 1872 (death unknown); married to Reverend Henry Martin of Tennessee. The family lived in Howard County until 1900 when they moved to Neveda County.

Mattie's sister Elizabeth Harpool-Duckett adopted and raised my grandmother, Willie Dee Duckett-Gilmore.
