John G. GAMMON, son of Silas GAMMON and Sarah SMITH, was b. c1823 in Jones Co., GA. He moved west with his parents in the 1830s and lived at various times in what is now AR, LA and TX. By 1852, he had left his family and settled in Hot Spring Co., AR. He was married there at least twice before rejoining his family in Smith Co., TX.
John G. GAMMON md/1 Clarissa MARTIN, 17 Mar 1853 in Hot Spring County. She d. 23 Apr 1856, same location. Their children:
1. Annetta GAMMON, b. 1854.
2. Silas S. GAMMON (1855-c1894); removed to Texas with his father.
John md/2 Catherine FENTER, 26 Oct 1856 in Hot Spring County. She d. apparently before 1860. Their children:
3. Fenter F. GAMMON, b. 1857.
4. Syrenna Jane GAMMON, b. 02 Sep 1858.
John G. GAMMON appears on the 1860 US census of Hot Spring County with only one child (Silas). His wife and other children were not recorded in his household, so I presume that they died. Or perhaps they were living with other unknown relatives.
John md/3 (Unknown), possibly in Texas. They had one child:
5. Rosetti GAMMON (f), b. c1864.
John md/4 Josanna C. ICE, 1865 in Smith Co., TX, and had three more children. He disappears after the 1870 census, at which time he was residing in Hunt Co., TX.
This is not my direct line, but I would like to know more about John's Hot Spring County wives and identify their parents. Thanks!
