Dear Sue,
I have recently begun researching my family history.
My Great great grandfather was Cornelius Burns, born December 5, 1811 in York Dist. SC. He moved to Georgia at
some point and married Manerva C. Nevill October 1839 in Cass/Bartow County. They had 11 children (at least).
Lived on Rock Creek Road in Gordon County (Sugar Valley) Georgia.
Children of the censuses 1850-1870
Leonard
James
Frances
Sarah
John Westley
Adeline
Malachi
Eliza
Emily
Margarett
Robert
There are some gaps between ages; for instance 4 years between Adeline and Malachi; 8 years between Emily and Margarett; therefore, I believe more children were born but did not survive.

Malachi (my Great Grandfather) married someone I am searching for information on. Her name has been spelled various ways at various times. Here we go:
Sarepta Janelle or
Sarepta Jinetta
Sarepta in 1930 Gordon County census
Janella in 1920 Gordon County census
Sarepta in Gordon County 1910 Census
Sarepta J in Gordon County 1900 Census
and Jinetta in the 1880 Gordon County Sugar Valley census.
I know she lived with my grandparents Cornelius and Mary Ruth Burns immediately after they married in 1919; then when they moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1926, Sarepta moved in with John Cornelius' brother Jether Burns and his wife. She was 73 at that time.
I know there is more than one Leonard Burns in the GA archives. The one in my family was the oldest child of Cornelius and Minerva, born about 1840, the year after they married.

I know that Cornelius Burns in my family was born December 5, 1811 in York. It makes sense that he was from a large family as was everyone at the time. Since he had a son named Malachi, I am wondering if he also had a BROTHER of the same name.

Will you please tell me where you found your names in SC?
I would be happy to see them. I have read the York County census line by line from various years looking simply for Cornelius Burns. It would be great to have a link; as he is as far as I can trace my family.

Thanks!
Deborah Burns Kyle
