I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the Greene County Poor Farm Cemetery? My 3x great grandfather died at the poor farm and was buried there. I assume he doesn't have a grave marker, but would like to get one for him if his grave can be located. His name was Thomas Culp, and he died June 16, 1923.

Lost Lambs in Greene County, Arkansas?

My mother’s paternal grandparents were Marion C. "Mack" Willey (1857-?) and Caroline (McMillin) Akers Willey (1857-1936). Caroline, a daughter of William Pinkney McMillin and Adaline D. (Cooley) McMillin, was born in Greene County, Arkansas, after her parents and two older sisters moved there in 1853 from Spartanburg District, South Carolina. Caroline had first married Mississippi-born William Riley Akers, who died early in 1880, leaving Caroline with two daughters. She married Mack Willey later that year.

In 1880, the widow Caroline was head of this household in Cache Township, Greene County, listed immediately below the household headed by her widowed mother Adaline:

AKERS Caroline Head White Female Widow 21 AR SC SC Keeping House/Farmer
AKERS Adaline Daughter Single Female White 4 AR MS AR
AKERS Ira [or Iva] Daughter Single Female White 1 AR MS AR
LAMB Graves Boarder Single Male White 17 AR AR AR Farm Hand
LAMB Mary Boarder [Marital Status?] Female White 15 AR AR AR Assists in House

Can anyone more fully identify Graves Lamb and Mary Lamb?

I know there were connections between the Lamb and Willcockson and Crowley families in northeastern Arkansas.

According to an entry in the Goodspeed’s 1889 history of northeastern Arkansas, William Pinkney McMillin settled his family on what was known as the “old Willcockson estate” in Cache Township, Greene County. In 1880, the household listed below Caroline Akers’ Cache Township household was one headed by Civil War veteran and lawyer/farmer B.H. (Benjamin Harrison) Crowley, who would later author a history of Greene County published in 1906.
Also, I should say that in Ozilee (etc..'s) obituary, Rosa (Morgan) is listed as her sister.. but she is biologically the her mom's stepdaughter from a marriage the happened about 20 years after Ozilee's father died..

This family is truly a tangled web of relations :)

I also believe I now have Caroline at age 19 married to William Sanders 21.. but, grrr.. still don't know anything more about her than I did.. or him either.. lol. trying to chase a sanders through time is REALLY frustrating!! :)

Hi, :) Thank you for your offer of help!!! :) Caroline and her background are driving me INSANE! haha... :)

Here's what I have on Sallie and would be glad to share what info I have for her..I have documents to back up my research. I have my notes of what I know also... here's the bare facts.. because I don't know what you might be interested in.. :)

Sallie was born Oct 1897
Dau of Mary A. Livesay b Aug 1876 TX
and Humphery Reddick b. 1845 TN.. if I remember correctly, they are buried in the Reddick Cemetery? if so, I have their stones on video..

Source for above info: Census 1900..
Note: At this time, her brother, James Reddick m. "Ozilee L" (she has so many variations of her name).. and in the home is residing "Ozilee's mother" Caroline S. Sanders.. a widow..

by 1910 Sallie lives with James Reddick and in the copy of the census that I have they have her listed as Susie's twin (incorrect), in the home is my ggrandmother Myrtle Reddick and Elijah Morgan ...

Note: at this time, Caroline has married John Morgan and Rosa L. (marries a Harkins later) is 15 and in the home..
Caroline married John in 1905..

by 1920, Caroline and John appear no where.. Rosa L. has married Martin Kager Harkins and is residing in Alabama, Elisha S. Morgan <31 b. abt 1889 - 1888> m. Sallie L... with children Mary 6, Ludelia 3, Eli 1 yr 8 mo...

I do not know if Elisha / Elijah is the son of John H (b. 1864), but it is my thought.. I know he's not living in the home in any of the census' aft 1900.. I do know that there is some odd connection between my Caroline Sanders and the Morgans that go way back... as well as the Jones family, which I have yet to explore... because when I follow them back to Tennessee, pre 1900, the Morgan's and Jones are living and moving from town to town with them..

I would love to know anything your grandma might know about these families... I do know some family stories about Azilee, Ozilee, oralee, azalea, lou t, lutisha, etc.. (all the same person), ie.. sister in law to Sallie, who raised her.. :)
I believe he was a gunslinger, rumored to have been a horse thief, a bigamist, and a "bad man". He was certainly my most mysterious and interesting ancestor, and their were numerous in the Gardner family.

Are you related to Lewis Gardner?

Have you heard any other stories?

My email address is whitediddy16@aol.com, or lonewolfcg@aol.com

Best,
Corey

Lois was my great grandmother... I used to go to their home on Court street.... she made the best sugar cookies!!!! She was the best to me...My family used to go there all the time when we came to Ark.. and see the rest of the family...My mother is Mary Jo..May Ruth's daughter..Anna faye and my mom talks all the time... My mom has made it to some of the family reunions.. but I know Anna Faye and Wava used to go each year when they had them... I believe Anna Faye went again this year... They gave me a copy of the Family history... My question was that Elvis had a different mother than his siblings.. it is documented on the death cert. We were trying to figure it all out... If you have any info regarding it.. I would greatly appreciated it...thanks

Hello., my great grandfather is Elvis Gilbert. He was born in KY and lived in Paragould Ark., He married Lois Rogers., they had three daughters: Mae Ruth., Anna Faye., and Wava Lou... I used to go to their home and stay with them when I was little in Arkansas. I ask my mother about living above a funeral home., they did not, however their daughter the oldest did when she got married. If you have any info.. I would greatly appreciate it... to all I know was that he did not live with his parent since he was 11 years old.... I do not know what the situation was... thanks glenda

I do also know (from memory) that Beulah's twin, Ruth, was married to a man named Ernest, because they visited me in Long Beach, CA around 1983-1984, before I moved to San Jose.

Does anyone have any information Daniel Gray of Cash Township? Daniel was born in Tennessee and am also looking for what county he was born in. Am looking for who his parents were or for any other information on the early Grays of Greene County before 1840.
thanks,
Kathie

Hello, Glenda:

I don't know much about Elvis Gilbert, other than he was probably from Graves County, KY. If you already have the family history of the Rogers, I can't be of much help. Hope that you able to find what you are looking for.

Joseph Rogers

Hello,
Glenda:

I can send some information that someone else sent me but I know who you are taking about. My dad (now deceased many years) told me that Lois Rogers Gilbert, used to live in his house before him in Paragould. It was on 12th and Court Sts.
Also I saw where Lois signed the funeral book when my grandfather died. If you will send me your address, I will mail this information to you. My grandfather was Joe Matthew Rogers and my father was Cecil Rogers. We are related and the same family. Some of these Rogers spread to
Indiana and some went to Michigan.

Joseph Rogers

Hello, my name is Jimmy Nell, maiden name of Barr. I think I might be distantly related. My family is from the Lake township/Mounds/Alexander area. My grandmother is Ethel (Morgan) Lamb. Her mother was Sally "Lou" Reddick, who married Elisha Morgan around 1911 or 1912. Sally's parents both died of pneumonia when she was a little girl and she was raised by her two brothers until she married. I'm sure these are the same families. I will ask my grandma if she knows anything.
