William R(ufus) Brown - 1845/AL-1890/AR?

Does anyone have information on a William R(ufus) Brown, born abt 1845 in Alabama? Have found information that he might have died in 1890 somewhere in Grant County, Arkansas. He married Susan (Davis) Anderson 12 Mar 1873 in Jackson County, Alabama. Susan had two children, James & Nancy, when she married William. William & Susan had Dee Barnett, Violet, & Martin G.

Would love to know where William & Susan are buried and if any obits exit for them. (There's a dispute among family members as to who William's parents were.)

Would anybody possibly have a picture of Ruby Graves McCool? She was the daughter of Robert C. "Bunk" and Nancy Hyde Graves. Ruby was born 1895 and died in 1940 and married G.H. McCool. I think they called him Buddy.
Ruby and Buddy had a son named Ebert who is also deceased.
Ruby was my grandfather Fred Graves' sister. We have two pictures of her as a young girl but don't have any of her after she was grown. Ebert's son, Wayne McCool lives in Florida as far as I know and doesn't have a listed phone number.

I recently started researching my family's genealogical background and as you can imagine having some difficulty with the Smith surname. If anyone can provide any tidbits of help it will be greatly appreciated. I am also inquiring to see if any family members may respond with information that we can share.

My father Arlie Marvin Smith was said to have been born August 03, 1902 in Muldrow, (Indian Territory) Oklahoma. He died in Little Rock, Pulaski County, AR on February 28, 1970 and is buried in Ironton Cemetery, in southern Pulaski County. His parents were James Neal Smith b. July 26, 1870; d April 22, 1930; and Minnie Lea (Anderson) Smith b. March 13, 1880; d. February 05, 1929, and both are buried in the same Ironton Cemetery in Pulaski County, Arkansas.

My father had several siblings, all with the Smith surname including: Henry Neal, Wilton Theodore, Vernon Wallace, David Raymond, Elmer Dee, Charles Auuval, Ethel Lovada, Lilly Mae and Ella Marie.

I am having a great deal of difficulty finding anything beyond what I posted above. I am told that they all resided at place called "Ferrels Works" (unsure of spelling) in Grant County, Arkansas when my father was an adolescent. I have no idea whether that was a place or a business, nor any other details about it. I would love to find out something about this place. To date, I've not found any maps or documents that mention this place. I suspect they migrated to Grant County somewhere between 1902 and 1910. One of my uncles is buried in the Hampton Springs Cemetery in Dallas County near the southern boundary of Grant County, which leads me to speculate they may have been located in the southern portion of Grant County.

I am stuck at this point and desperate to find a break. If anyone has any information, no matter how trivial, I will greatly appreciate your contribution. Likewise, as I develop information I hope I too can share some in the future.

Veterinarian in Grant County?

This picture was taken in Grant County as far as I know, but I don't know who the man in the picture is.
I've heard that Uriah Childers was a veterinarian in Grant County. I found a picture of him in Elwin Goolsby's book "Our Timberland Home", but can't be sure he and this man are the same.
The Graves family does have a connection to the Childers family - Robert Graves, who was my great-grandfather, had a half-brother named Benjamin. Benjamin's second wife was Matilda Childers. Childers was a married name of hers.
Does anybody recognize the man in this picture?

My mother, Kathryn Graves Flynt, inherited 50-100 very old pictures from her grandmother, Nancy Hyde Graves, who married Robert C. Graves. Most of these pictures are not labeled but we can usually point out Nancy and Robert's kids. Several of them are from singing schools held at Little Creek or Lost Creek or in Ico and other places in the area. I was hoping someone would recognize some people in these pictures.
This particular picture might be from a Church Homecoming or something like that.
In this picture, I think the man sitting down, second from the left might be Gilliam Davenport Mathews. He married Robert Graves' sister, Sarah. Gilliam died in 1924.
I recognize other faces in this pic as only people who are in other pictures we have. I don't know their names.
If anyone recognizes someone, please let me know. You're welcome to copy any of these pictures for your own collection.

John Dorn and Rebecca Litzsey were married in Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, AR in 1900. Prior to claiming Pine Bluff as their home they were residents of Bookman, Grant County. Rebecca died fourteen years later leaving John with the responsibility of raising their children. The 1920 AR census indicated that John had married for a second time. Willie Dorn was his new wife and was 20 years of age at the time of the census.

I don't know if there is a cemetery book for Grant Co., but if so, may I please get a look up for D. C. Hardman & wife Jane Orr Hayes Hardman. They are on the 1880 census, but not on the 1900. I have a birthdate for Dennis of 9 Jan. 1820.

I show they had two daughters but cannot determine what happened to them although Martha b. 1857 might have married a Porterfield and Nancy b. 1860 might have married a Goldman.

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!

I am searching for lineage information on Belle (first name Ida) Sanders who married a Jim White (possible first name James). Jim did NOT die of natural causes and is buried near the Grant and Cleveland County line. He died when his daughter Connie was a young child and she was born on July 30, 1924.
I believe they originally were from around, at least Jim was, the Grant County area around Lees Ferry or within that vicinity. Belle Sanders White is buried in Wilson Cemetary in Cleveland County beside her daughter Connie O"Neal Robinson. Connie was also married to a Parsons.
Jim and Belle were the parents of Gladys, Connie, Bessie, Conrad Eugene who was called "Jack" (?), James Franklin, James Daniel (who married Agnes Hudson) and John Edward. ANY information on this bloodline would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I am searching for any connection to Samuel McClellan - born 1849, married Isabella Brown, born 1849. Samuel died in 1902, Isabella followed in 1903, she was buried in Switzerland Co., IN. I have no record of them before this time. Does anyone know of a Mary Harris, who lived in Leola 1970? She was the sister of William Thomas, George Leon, Edward A. and Robert L. Harris. Step sister to Miles S. Barnes and Susan Barnes. When Miles was buried in Leola Cemetery, the family gathered at the house of his step sister Mary Harris. Mary was born about 1886, and I don't know if she married or not, I didn't think so..

In the 1930 census he was living in DeKalb twp., Grant Co. Elijah was born about 1847, so I'm hoping that he'll have a long and informative obituary column. My parents took me to visit my maternal grandmother, Lillie Mae Pelts, who may have been married to Fred Stanton. I also have a studio photo of him. They met in Kennett (Dunklin) MO (I think he was a salesman) and lived in Sheridan for 2-4 years (my mother died in 1962, so my immediate family history info is limited). My great grandfather, Benjamin Carter "Bennie" Reed was b. in 3 Sep 1880 in Clarksville, MS and d. 15 August 1958 at Colonial Nursing Home in Benton, Saline Co. He was buried at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan, but his name doesn't appear in any transcriptions I've seen. Is there anyone out there who might have any info about his burial? He married my great grandmother, Cora Mae Underwood in Benton on 5 Nov 1916, when he was 35 and she was 18. Can someone also tell me the condition of the cemetery? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Because he was so much older than my great grandmother, he died long before I was born, so I never knew much about him.

Lost Creek Baptist Church

When the Lost Creek Baptist Church and Cemetery was founded the original 4 acres that comprised the land portion for the church and cemetey was donated to the founding church committee by David Richard Wray, my gr-grandfather from his original homestead of 116 acres. At the time of the churches founding the 'farm' was adjoining the present day church.. the deed is recorded in the Grant deed county records and was located by my uncle, W. H. (Pete) McClellan in the 1970's when he was at the peek of his searching..
David married Nancy Harrelson, one of their children was Laura Anna Wray McClellan that married Judge Issac Scott McClellan Dec. 25, 1898 for any further info see my posting on the message board..

My great Grandfather was Alexander Grant who, in 1883, married Margaret
Stuart of Auchnascraw. The family (3 sons, Alexander, James and John) left
Glenlivet in 1907 and emigrated to North Vancouver, British Columbia,
Canada.

Parents of Alexander (the 5th of twelve children) were Alexander
Grant(b1804 - d. 10th March 1886, 3:30pm, Corunack,
Glenlivat) and Ann Stuart (b.1829, Abernethy, Invernesshire - d.26th Dec
1902, 5am, Westerclova, Kildrummy).

On Margarets side, parents are, James Stuart (b abt 1805 --- d.29th Oct
1869, 7:30pm, Mill of Auchnascraw) and Elspet Grant (b abt 1810 --- d.31 May
1882, 6am, Mill of Achnascraw,
Glenlivat). Elspet Grant was widowed previous to marrying James Stuart and
brought three young children to the second marriage. Her first husband was
Charles Stuart who died before 1842.

Further Generations:
Alexander Grant (1804 - 1886).
His parents were Duncan Grant (who came to the Braes of Glenlivet from
Abernethy) and Mary White (b.abt 1769 - d. 24 Jan 1850)
Ann Stuart (1829 - 1902).
Her parents were James Stuart & Barbara Grant
James Stuart(1805 - 1869)
His parents were John Stuart & Janet Stuart
Elspet Grant (1810 - 1882)
Her parents were Alexander Grant (Who also came from the Braes of Abernethy)
and Margaret White.
It is possible that Alex & Duncan Grant were brothers and that they married
sisters in the two White girls.
Margaret White died early (after bearing at least one child) and Alexander
married again, to Margaret Grant with whom he raised a fair sized family.

Looking for the parents of William Lybrand.

William was married to Pauline "Dee" Johnson Lybrand. I have only two children - Daniel Jacob and Lula. There are probably others. William was born 1 Mar 1850 in Arkansas and died 17 April 1934 and is buried in Grapevine Cemetery along with his wife.

In the 1920 Census he is living in Madison township with Pauline and their daughter Lula and Lula's daughter. Name illegible. Next door to the family is D. J. (Daniel Jacob).

I believe Jacob and Nancy Lybrand are the parents of William. I found a Wm. M. Lybrand in the 1860 Census, Darysaw township, Jefferson Co. There six children: Rubin, Catherine John, Redric (sp?), Wm and Joseph.

William is my step-father's great grandfather. Researching for my half-sister. Any help would be appreciated

For what it's worth....My father's name is James Henry Lofton, Jr. His father was James Henry Lofton from Louisiana born around 1886. He married an Elnora Baxter from Louisiana born in 1893.
They migrated to Texas with the Railroad. I believe the Lofton's all came from Louisiana????? I am doing research trying to find my grandfather's parents. They may have been slaves. We have always been told the name was French. Any info would be helpful. wl1024@msn.com.

I am looking for the parents of one Benjamin Harrison Lipscomb, which my records state was born in the Double Wells community of Grant County, September 29, 1888. Father is supposedly a Ben Lipscomb of Tennessee and a Millye Morris, born in Grant County as well. Parents' names may not be accurate.
