Additionally, am Haley descendant, as Burkett Battle Lindsey (son of Rev Elijah Lindsey & Maria Williams) md 1842 Saline co.
Hi Kay,
I've been researching the Benjamin Williams and related family now for about 10 years. Likely, that we've talked before. However, I've come up with a query for you regards one of his sons, named Harrison. He seems to have married a Mahaly E. Sims in 1871 in Lawrence Co., AK.

We've come up with another member of DNA GROUP 9 (this is the Roots Web DNA study where those with LIKE DNA are grouped together) whose line connects to the name Sims. We can't seem to link them into the mainstream line of WILLIAMS', though the connection seems to be via a John Williams who may have married one of the following: POPE, JONES, poss. PAGE or SANDERS.

I have that Benjamin's father was Lewis Williams married to an Ann Mary Norman or Wilkins. Lewis or could be Louis dioed in Onslow Co., NC where Ben lived. His father was Theophilus Williams/wife Hester Busby. This Theophilus, then, is the son of the John Williams I mention above.

I note that your connection is to Harrison's brother Lott Green, both sons of Benjamin Wililams and Sarah Sally Battle. Since these two were born so close together, I was hoping, perhaps, that you might know more about him.

I have Harrison born in 1817, married Mahaly E. Sims in 1871. It looks like Lott Green Williams, who married Mary Cynthia Jones in 1840 may have moved to Arkansas as well. I have Lott born 1820 and died in Grant Co., AK in abt 1895. I note that Sally Koestler ( a geneaologist) links to this line through Lott's son Archibald warren Williams.

If you can enlighten me a bit aboaut Harrison, Lott's brother, please write me directly at: gwilliams@ntin.net

I note that another child of Benjamin was Mariah who married secondly to James William Gamble. That marriage also took place in Saline Co. (or Grant), AK. So it is obvious that some of these children mirgrated to the same place in AK.

THANKS.
Gerri

To: Mary Lanier
Mary, read my other responses of today, 6/7/09. I must say that I disagree considerably with Kay Blevins, esp. on those she lists as children of Benjamin and Sarah Battle Williams. Years ago I pleaded with her to reveal her source of this listing and rec'd no reply. Not sure this will reach you, either, after so long. I just ran across this section on Ancestry.com -- can't imagine how I missed it before. Even if some of those Blevins lists ARE indeed children of Benj. Williams, their birth places cannot be accurate, as I have Benj. Williams in a constructed "timeline" and he had left Onslow Co. NC well before 1814.... have him in deeds with bro-in-law, etc. in other NC counties, then in Miss Terr. before he got to Ark. Harriet S. Williams, e.g., was b Oct 1814 in Lawrence Co. Ark., most certainly not in NC. Any of her desc. could tell you that for certain.

In late 1960s, and thru 1970s and into 1980s, about a dozen cousins -- most of them desc. of Harriet S. Williams -- and I had sharing agreement; research assignments, so to speak, and then we'd report findings to all others. June Hunt, Eliz. Heard, Lerlind Hanchey, etc. were among them. I was the youngest and probably none of these others still survive.

I also have copies from Bible of Lott Green Williams, passed on to Addison Brice Williams; it goes far enough back that it gives names of parents of Benj. Williams and Sarah Battle and gives their birth dates; not all of Lott Green's children are listed, but most are...

Contact me if you wish to pursue.

If this reaches you, and you are interested in exchanging data, contact me at email tinker@suddenlink.net or tele 707 497 6682 (Eureka, CA; been here a year; was in Diamond Bar, Ca previous 20 years.)
Gloria J.
To: Sally Haley from Gloria J. Reck, Eureka, CA
Yes, the Williams-Tull cemetery, where Lott Green Williams, Benjamin Williams and obviously Sarah Battle Williams (& many others) are buried, lies actually in the distant back yard of Randy & Rhonda Evans, who purchased the land from the Jolly family and built a house. I was part of the group of Lindsey descendants (& thus Williams desc.) who worked to get this cemetery restored. In 1970 I found Benjamin Williams' 1842 deed, wherein he sold 80 acres (although legal description erroneously describes 160 acres), "except," he said, "for five rods square whereon lies my graveyard." (Saline Co. Ark. Deed Bk B, p 333 -- I have certified copy.) Then I walked the 160 acres to find this abandoned, almost obliterated cemetery. I was obviously successful -- in fact, I sorta walked right to it, to the surprise of many. (The rattlesnakes were abundant and noisy that hot summer day, too!) We had a struggle (legally) as for some reason the owner didn't want the cem. restored, despite having ancestors buried there himself. (It was inexplicable to me!) But we won, and the cem. was fenced, little white crosses laid out where only native rocks had been. Yes, the only proper tombstone there was that of Lott Green Williams, and it's a military stone with no birth or death date, only his name and company (Union/Civil War). June Hunt arranged for War of 1812 commemorative plaque, etc. It was a real team effort by many of us cousins. (June Hunt was desc. of Harriet S. Williams who md Burkett Lindsey; I am desc. of Maria Williams who md Rev. Elijah Lindsey and then md. James Wm. Gamble in 1847, after Elijah d 1834.)

Obviously I know a great deal more than is being written here. If interested in further sharing of info, please contact me at tinker@suddenlink.net or at tele 707 497 6682. Would be pleased to exchange info. I've put a good deal on Ancestry.com but not all data by any means. Have 125 pg Lindsey chart as well as Williams, Battle, Haley, etc. charts. These families are all intermarried considerably.

Now, you are correct. Sarah Williams was 2nd wife of Archibald Tull; she d 1858 or 1859, and he md twice more... I interviewed many people in Prattsville, etc. area in 1970 and 1971 trips, including a woman who actually had known Lott Green Williams. She was a young girl and had attended his funeral. (It took me some head shaking to realize I was, in 1970, speaking to a woman who knew a man b 1820 -- she was Mrs. Nora Brumblow. Talked with others, too, who were really old-timers, who were "gone" within 2-5 years thereafter. I reached them just in time. Also have corresp. from 1940s and 1950s sent to my cousins in Okla City by Prattsville people.)

Some of the early confusion was because a source told our family that Eli Lindsey's wife was "Sarah Maria," and this was not correct. There was Sarah md Archibald Tull and Maria who md Elijah Lindsey -- two separate sisters. And then of course Harriet S. Williams md Elijah Lindsey's brother Burkett Lindsey (1808-1894).

Hope this still has a chance to reach you. Please respond if still interested.
Gloria J.

Benjamin Williams is buried in the Williams-Tull cem. in the village of Tull, Grant Co. Ark. (This restored cemetery is actually in the distant back yard of Randy & Rhonda Evans' property.) I too am a descendant and helped with arranging for the restoration and placing of placques in this cemetery, which is now nicely fenced, etc. In 1842, Benjamin Williams sold 80 acres, except, he stated, "for five rods square whereon lies my graveyard." (Saline Co. Ark. Deed Bk B, p 333 -- I have copy.) Having found this deed in 1970, I tracked down the almost obliterated cemetery. It was difficult, as the deed's land description detailed 160 acres rather than 80 -- so I had twice the area to search, but was successful. The only "proper" tombstone in the cem. was that of Benjamin Williams' son Lott Green Williams -- and it was a military stone giving no birth or death date, only his name and company in the Union/Civil War. The other graves were marked with native stones/rocks, rolled into place at some time. Some might have had "scratched" letters on them but were no longer legible at all. If you need more detail, please contact me at tinker@suddenlink.net. Gloria J. Reck, Eureka, CA.

My husband is a descendant of Dr. Harris Chapman Stockton. What is the source of your information that his first wife was Martha Melton? According to all information we have found, his first wife was Martha Gillespie, daughter of John Gillespie and Elizabeth Koontz. They married 13 August 1840 in Itawamba Co., MS. Moved into Saline (now Grant) Co., AR, in early 1850s.

Well I haven't been over the seas with the Gwin's or Brewers. However, the Gwin's were in South Carolina as early as 1808. If I have this correct, Garland Gwinn married Wilma Emaline Camp. Garland's parents are Frank Gwinn and Martha Lenora Brewer. Martha Brewer's parents are John Brewer and Martha J. (last name unknown). Frank Gwin's parents are L. H. Gwinn and Sarah M. (last name unknown). Both L. H. and Sarah are buried in New Hope Cemetery, Grant Co., AR.
L. H. Gwin may be the son of Jeptha and Susan Gwin. Jeptha is listed in the 1850 Census, York Co.,SC: Jeptha 40, Susan 30, Judson O. 10, Littleton H. 8, Thomas 6, Mary 4, Susan 2.
1860 Census, York Co., SC is: Jeptha 52, Susan, 36, O. Judson 19, L. H. 17, T. A. (Thomas) 15, Mary 13, L. S. (Susan) 12, J. D. 8, and M. A. 4
1870 Census: There is a Hartwell Gwin 27 in Drew Co., Arkansas, with wife Sarah 24 and son Robert 1, all born in South Carolina.
1880 Census: L. H. is in Dallas Co., Arkansas with wife Susan, sons, Robert, Ross, Frank, Jeptha, and daugher Eveline.
L. H. (name may be Littleton Hartwell Gwin) died 19 October 1894 according to his headstone. I am a little confused though, Sarah is listed in the 1900 Grant Co. Census as being the mother of 4 children with 4 living. According to my research she is the mother of nine children.
The oldest Brewer I have is: Harvey (1822-1898) born in Alabama and married Lucy Paralee Edmondson.
You may email me kjblevins@sbcglobal.net

Since I live close to the Museum I can do look ups there. They do have a great card catalogue.
Also anything that may be stored in the Court house. Marriage certificates, Land sales, court documents, burial records can be gotten from the local Undertakers records. Obits can only be gotten in Little Rock Historical Society as the Headlight has turned all their papers over to them.
I seldom get to go out of town because of the cost of gas.
Also if people know dates and names of places locally, I can check them and take pictures.
Frank Gwin and Martha Lenora Brewer are my grandparents. Their son William Wall Gwin being my father. Frank Gwin is the son of Littleton Hartwell Gwin and Sarah Melinda ROSS Gwin. They moved from SC to AR about 1868 with other Ross family members. L H {Hart}Gwin was the son of Jeptha Gwin and his first wife Sarah Isabella Fort. She died leaving 2 young sons, Orlando and L H. Jeptha later married Susan Abell. Sarah Isabella is buried in the Gwin McKnight Cemetery in York Co.,SC located on the old Gwin estate site and not maintained I understand. The first Gwinn/Guinn of this line was in SC for the 1799 census. Thomas Guinn came from VA to SC as a young boy and was in Fairfield Co and a land owner in 1799 and moved to York Co. in 1830's. His will is made in York Co. and names all of his children. Thank you for sending the Brewer information. It is all so very helpful.

Any information you have on this Brewer family will be most appreciated. My Dad said when ever he asked his mother, Nora Brewer Gwin, how long they had been in this country she always said forever. Of course we know that can't be so, however my hope is top find out just where the families related to this Brewer line did come from. Dad was told some were in Holland before sailing for America.

I know that it's been a long time since you posted this query, but I've done some research on the Arkansas Heird family. Lyndell Faye Heird Brewer is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Jefferson County, Arkansas. The dates on her stone are Dec. 5, 1907 and Aug. 25, 1967. The unnamed sister in the 1910 census is Buela (sp?). Robert Eugene Heird and his second wife Lillie Smith (daughter of George W. Smith and Caroline Caughman) had Evie (Jan. 20, 1912 May 13, 2005), who married R. E. Moltz, and Houston, born in 1913. He married Opal Ratcliffe.

After he died, her name was Susan McBride, but I don't know the first name of her fourth husband.

Information On Eli Booth(e)

I am trying to find out information on Eli Boothe, my Grandfather. He is buried at Bether South Cemetery (Aug 17 1865-Feb 15 1936). His wife was Ida Jane (Newman), I first show him in Sheridan (Holly Street) on the 1920 Census, with Ida, a daughter Dasiy(?) and Son David. My mother Mary Madeline was born Dec 3 1922, I show her on the 1930 Census with Eli and Ida in Calvert Township. My Mom told me about them living in Shilo before their house burned, sometime in the '30's,, after that she said the property in Shilo was sold to the Allen family, perhaps Zack Allen because they were neighbors, and I remember my mom telling me about Mildred Allen, a daughter of Zack and Rose Allen. On the 1930 census neither Dasiy(daisy) nor David appear. My Mother married Vonnie Crutchfield (youngest son of Robert F. And Martha (Mattie Richey)) on Aug 12 1939. I would appreciate any information that anyone may have. Please contact me at rcrutchfield302@comcast.net.
Thank you in advance
Bob
Hi Chris. This picture you have - is it of Harvey and Katie and their family or is it of Harvey with his parents?
I'm researching the Edwards/Wade lines and Katie is part of this Edwards family. Was wondering if you had a picture of Katie and Harvey and their kids...?

Thanks,
Kathy Flynt James
kathyjam@sbcglobal.net

Hello. I was wondering if you could email me directly and either give me Wanda Lee's phone number or give her my number and ask her to call me. I'd also like to talk to Dave Ward's daughter. I'm researching the Ward family as well, and am having a hard time finding living descendants. My grandfather Fred Graves and Dave Ward were very good friends according to my mother. And I'm still trying to fill in a few holes in my Ward research.
I'd like to talk to Wanda Lee because I know she knew my grandfather, and also there's a story about a boy named Harold who lived close to my grandfather when he was raising his kids. My grandfather also had a son named Harold Rayburn Graves. This other Harold who lived nearby was apparently in trouble quite often and my grandfather said from then on instead of calling his own son Harold he was calling him Buck. And he's been Buck ever since. We've been trying to figure out who this Harold was. I recently saw in the 1930 census for Franklin Township in Grant Co, Ark, a Harold D Mayfield, whose parents were Walter and Wilma. He was about the same age as my Uncle Buck. I was curious to know if Wanda Lee was related to them.
Thank you,
Kathy Flynt James
kathyjam@sbcglobal.net

Possibility that George F.- 1842 is the Father of George T.-1880-AR?
George T Headen shows in 1900 Simpson, Grant, Arkansas with wife Emma -1882 and daughter Goldie -1899-AR.
Haven't found a marriage record, so I'm not positive about this being my Emma Waldo.

Emma Waldo King shows up in Pine Bluff, Jefferson,AR in the 1920 census and has re-married, her mother Sarah Waldo-1857-AR is living with them.
