1870 Grant co census has several Hance intermingled with Mayfield and another name that I cannot tell if it says Saxton, Taxton, or what. I am interested in anyone has info on these families. I am trying to trace the Hance family, but think these families travelled together some. Also the Lancaster and Tiger/Tignor families.

My Great, Great, Great Grandmother was Rhoda Hance per her son James H Crutchfield in Goodspeed 1889 book for Grant County. She was born in South Carolina in 1800 and died in 1884 in Grant County. I think a William Hance was her brother because he was always with the Crutchfields when they moved. I found William Hance in Chickasaw County, Miss in 1850 and then in Arkansas, Saline County in 1860, then in 1870 and 1880 in Grant County Ark. Grant County was formed appox 1868 from Jefferson, Saline and Pulaski Counties so they probably lived in the same place in 1860, 1870 and 1880 in Arkansas. Hope this provides some information.

William Hance was my great great great grandfather. I am descended from his daughter Lourinda, who married Reuben D. Smith in Calhoun County, Mississippi shortly before her parents and siblings moved to Arkansas.

I believe that the name you are seeing associated with Hance was Paxton. William's youngest daughter, Virginia, married a Paxton.

Joseph W. Paxton married Virginia Hance in Grant Co. Ark. He is the brother of my great-grandfather James Henry Paxton. J. W. named his 2nd son Henry C. The Hances, Simons, and Paxtons traveled from Mississippi at the same or close times.

Do you have any connections between the Hances and Henry Simons. Isabella Simons married James Joseph Paxton before moving from Ms to Ark. My great-grandfather was James Henry Paxton. I believe the Hances travelled with the Paxtons and Simon from Ms. I know there are several Paxton, Hance, Simons connections in Grant County

I am sorry to say that I am not familiar with the Simons family or their possible connection to the Hance family. A record that might be of interest to you is the marriage of Upton P. Hance to Nancy E. Symons on December 2, 1866
(recorded at Book C, page 85, Saline County, Arkansas marriages). Upton was a son of Nancy and William Hance. Also, Virginia Ann Hance, the youngest of Nancy and William Hance's children, married Joseph W. Paxton on December 26, 1866 (Book C, page 92, Saline County, Arkansas marriages). I do agree that a group of families migrated together from South Carolina to Mississippi to Arkansas

Just something of interest. My mother was a Paxton from Ohio. Her family lived in the Akron/Cleavland area as farback as 1890s. My great grandmother was a Hance from Spencerville Ohio. They lived in the Tipp City Ohio area around 1880's. If you have a connection to these familys I'd be glad to share infomation with you.

Thanks for the message. I doubt that there is a close connection between our lines because my Hance family came to South Carolina in the early 1800's, leaving there for Mississippi and later Arkansas (by 1850). If you learn of a connection, let me know. I will do the same.
