Looking for information on the James T. b. abt 1855 TN and Laura Ann Tucker Hogan b. abt 1849 TX, who are found in the 1920 Census in Fulton Co. Where did they go? Did they both pass away by 1930, or is the James T. Hogan who is a widow in 1930 TX, the same person as in the 1920 in Ark?

In 1910 they are in Fulton Co, and Independence Co in 1880. Haven't been able to locate them in 1900. Children in 1880: William b. abt 1866 and Cordelia E. b. about 1879, both in Ark.

Laura Ann was the brother to my Enoch T. Tucker who died in 1890. Her death certificate and obit could prove the relationship for me, but I need to find when she passed away and where she is buried.

Any help appreicated.

I need a look up on the death of my great-grandmother, Virginia Caroline (Walker) Creameans, married to Lemuel Creameans. She often went by just Caroline Creameans. Family members alive at the time said she died in 1908 in Fulton Co., AR and was buried at Salem, but they couldn't remember the day or the exact cemetery. A on-line search of cemeteries hasn't turned up anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Seeking descendants of Berry H. Davis, b. March 1869, and wife Lucy Jane (maiden name unk)b. Jan. 1872,who lived in Fulton County by the 1900 census. Children, according to the 1900 & 1910 census (all born in AR):

William (Willis)b. Jan. 1889; Margaret b. Nov. 1892; Louise b. June 1894; Maud b. Aug. 1896; Henry Luther (or Luther Henry)b. Aug. 1899; Asberry S. b. 25 Jan. 1904; and Emma M. b. abt. 1909.

In 1900 the family was living in Independence Co., AR-Ruddell Twp. Dwg. 26, Family # 26. By the 1910 census, they were in Fulton Co., and Berry H. Davis must have passed away prob. between 1909 -and the date the census was taken in 1910, as wife Lucy J. Davis was listed as a widow. I think that their daughter, Margaret DAVIS, might have married Charles (Charley) TURLEY, b. abt. 1891; married 8 Aug. 1909, Fulton Co., AR. Also, the dau. Maud DAVIS, might have married Forest Hammon FOSTER, 29 July 1913.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone connected to the above named families. THANKS!

I am looking for information on the descendants of two Davis brothers who lived in Fulton Co., AR. The eldest, Hezekiah William Davis was born abt 1818 in Smith Co., TN, and had 14 children by his two wives. He appears in Union, Fulton Co., AR in 1850, 1860 and then in Big Creek in 1870. He apparently died before the 1880 census as his widow appears in Greenbrier, Independence Co., AR in 1880. His younger brother, Solomon N. Davis, was born in Smith Co., TN in 1830 and was living in Union, Ripley Co., MO in 1860. He had a total of 8 children and by 1870 he was living in Big Creek, Fulton Co., AR where he later died in 1880. He, and some of his descendants were buried in the Elizabeth Cemetery. I would like to correspond with anyone related to these brothers or who knows anything about them or their descendants.

The above address is on my greatgrandmother's death certificate in 1896. I'm sure this area has changed greatly. Does anyone living in Atlanta know what might be at this location today? I'm hoping to make a trip to Atlanta in April. Which library branch (downtown?) would be the best place to find city directories from the late 1890's? Apparently Eleanor G Allen, died 2/8/1896 shortly after her granddaughter, Ivy/Iva May Allen died of pneumonia and both are buried in Westview cemetery. I believe she was probably living with Iva's family, James and Zulia Allen Mason and son, Norman, age 3, at the above age as she was widowed. Thank you for any information.

Need help with Creameans family

I've hit a brick wall with my great-grandfather, Lemuel Creameans, born Sept. 12, 1884 in either AR or MO. I can track him in Fulton Co., AR in 1900, Creek Co. OK in 1910 and in Saline Co. in 1920. I lose him after that until a newspaper clipping dated Sept. 7, 1961 in Fulton Co., AR. He completely disappears after that. I can't even find him listed in the SSDI or at LDS. Family members believe he died prior to 1975 in Fulton Co., but I haven't been able to find him in any of the cemeteries, either. Does anyone have any other ideas as to where I might search or locate records? Without a date of death, it's rather difficult to even request a look up. The surname is such that it's been spelled Creameans, Cremeans, Cremeens, Creamens and even Cromeans. Thanks for any advice!

PLEASE READ - fulton county web site

hello, everyone. my name is scot stout, and i am the new coordinator of the fulton county web site (www.rootsweb.com/~arfulton). i apologize if you receive two of these notices, but i want to reach as many people as possible.

first of all, i must sadly announce the passing of former fulton county coordinator, sharon dale. ms. dale died this past january. the only information i have regarding her death is her obituary, which is posted on the web site, so i cannot give further details.

the web site has mostly been updated, although i am still working on a few pages. please note the new features:

1. a search engine for the fulton county web site only. (it does not work for firefox browser.)

2. there is a photo album page, eagerly waiting to be filled with your old OLD fulton county photos. please note that i cannot post photos of individuals still living (due to the risk of identity theft).

3. the surnames page will be completely revamped. you may submit the surnames you are working on so that others can contact you. please note that you must: A. supply your full name, and B. tell me for which county you are submitting (i have several county web sites).

4. if you have your own family genealogy web site, i'll be glad to post the URL on the Personal Web Pages so that others can contact you.

5. the fulton county chapter of the 1891 Goodspeed's book is now transcribed and posted on the web site, so be sure to check that out -- you might find your ancestors listed there. i found mine in the clay county chapter!

6. there is also a page for off-site links that are filled with more fulton county information. for instance, our cemetery page is now supplemented with another page that has even more information on it.

please DO let me know if you find broken links, errors, or misinformation so that i can correct it. please DO feel free to submit information and/or photos for posting (photos should be in .jpg format at 72 dpi). i will do my best to make this web site one of the best in arkansas.

scot stout

Sanford Hackworth & Family 1870 Census

It seems that the Sanford Hackworth family dissapeared from the 1870 census. They were in Fulton County,Myatt in 1860 and the children were in Myatt living with a sister Mary Benton in 1880. There was one child William Hackworth born in 1864 and one Jessee Hackworth born in 1872 so I'm sure they were in Arkansas somewhere in 1870. With an 1870 search of only Arkansas no Hackworth appears. This family it seems is the only one in 1860 and also in 1880. There are two other children in Fulton County, Mammoth Springs in 1880 but I don't know if they belong to the same family. The ages are good but I can only presume that they are related. One is 11 and one 8 which would make a pair of twins in 1872 for Sanford Hackworth. I'm thinking that both Sanford and wife Mary died sometime between 1872 and 1880.
Any help on this family would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Pat

Fluty Cemetery

We are working on identifying as many people as we can that are in unmarked graves in Fluty Cemetery in Baxter County and in collecting information on the other known families. This cemetery is 2 1/2 miles on CR 43 from Hwy 101 near Gamaliel. It is near the Baxter/Fulton County line and many people from the Vidette, Bennett's Bayou, Gamaliel and surrounding areas of Baxter and Fulton Counties are buried there. I would like to compile a 'Fluty History' so to speak that would include inscriptions, obituaries, family group sheets, etc. on the persons buried there. I would also like to have first-hand accounts from anyone who ever attended a funeral or Decoration Day at Fluty who could tell me what they remember. I will be checking the issues of Hatch, Match & Dispatch (index to Baxter Bulletin thru 1949) for funeral notices. Besides "Of Grave Importance" (Baxter County cemetery listings), are there any other sources that I should consult for Fulton County? Has anyone ever done an index to the Newspaper that operated out of Salem? Is there a microfilm of old Fulton County newspapers somewhere? If you have any personal knowledge or could point me in the direction of some 'old timers' that might remember anything of value -please contact me at 870-488-5453 P O Box 504 Mountain Home, AR 72654-0504 or at mcpgene@excite.com

I recently came across a transcript of a letter written back in the 60s in which a researcher said that my gg-grandparents, Holland and Sarah (Davis) Lindsey died in Fulton Co. Arkansas. This was the first time I had seen this, having thought they died in Mississippi, but without any proof of that. In the 1880 Census, they were in Mississippi, living near a daughter and son-in-law (Clayton Word Billingsley) who did later move west, possibly to Arkansas, though they died in Oklahoma.

I haven't found anything yet to confirm this place of death. Does anyone here have any records of Lindseys in Fulton Co. between 1880 and 1900, or any suggestions as to where to look for such?

Can anyone do a marriage lookup for me? Looking for Marilla/Marilda Shoufler, b: abt 1872 in Missouri. She was living with her Mother Liddie Shoufler on the 1900 Census in Fulton Co, Washington Township, Arkansas. Farm was owned by Liddie, but could not find them again on 1910 Census. Am speculating that Marilla got married sometime after the 1900 Census but before the 1910 Census. Spelling of her last name may have changed, some other options: Shofler, Shaufler, Schaufler. Will appreciate any effort. Thanks.

I was just wondering if anyone ever walks this cemetery if they could look for 2 graves. Ernest August Ahrens died 1931 and wife Barbara died 1932. Her last name may be listed as Ahrinds. Death certificate states buried in Riverside Cemetery. It could be unmarked graves. I thank you very much. Pat

I am searching for any information regarding the Hall's that lived in and around Fulton and Izard Co. in 1870-1900's. My Great Grandfather was James Jones Hall married to Elizabeth Hoover in Mo.His father was Jones Hall and wife Elmena Young. She was on the census of 1900 living with James Jones and family. Husband Jones had apparently died before then. If anyone has any information please contact me. I want to know if James Jones had any brothers or sisters; and where they might have lived.

I'm interested in the history of Moten Church and Moten Cemetery. Many of my ancestors, including grandparents, great grandparents and aunts, uncles, great uncles/aunts, are buries at the cemetery. I know that the church has been torn down now, but I'm curious of the history. What denomination met there? Who might have pastored there? Was it ever used as a school? When was it build? Who gave the land for the church and cemetery? Anything would be of interest to me.

Lost Child

Abandon or lost Child
Prior to 1870 The Holloways, the Tharps, the Hollands, The Hillards and other associated families began the trek west. Ending in Fulton County Arkansas. There is a family story told to me or rather in my presents by my father Will Holloway his brothers Jack and John. I hate this story and would like to know there had a happy ending
The story goes the Holloways were traveling west with the law on their trail. One member had killed someone for the honor of one the women the story goes. Moving fast in this manner a child of about 10 years of age gender unknown to me got lost. The Child I felt it was a boy but do not know this to be true got separated from the group, and was left behind. No one seems to know what became of this child.
VA, TN, MO, and AR were documented stopping places for these lines but it could have been else. If you know anything of an abandon child that would fit this story I would sure like to know what happened to this kid.
Peggy Holloway-Thompson
Tucker Family in early to mid 1800s in Arkansas?

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
I'm looking for a will or probate for John S. OR Susan Alderson. Susan died 1 Aug 1893. John Alderson died 4 Apr 1914.

I'm also hoping that someone can help me locate an obit. for John S. Alderson who died 4 Apr 1914 Fulton Co. and his wife Susan who died 1 Aug 1893 Fulton Co.

I do hope someone will have some published books to search for the above items or will have some time to search for these things the next time they go to the library or courthouse. I would be happy to pay for your time.

Does anyone know of a researcher in Fulton Co. I could hire. Price would have to be reasonable though.

Thanks for any help provided!

I am seeking info on Solomon and Rachel Saunders and
their families. Solomon was born in 1822 in KY, Rachel was born in 1830 possibly in IL. They were in the Benton Township, Fulton County Arkansas in 1850. Children known were Louisa Jane, Nancy E, Columbus, Harden, Missouri Josephine, Benjamin Franklin, and Georgeann. I believe that
Nancy E was born in 1847-1848 and was married to S.M (Squire Morgan) Turnbull. She passed away in 1898 and was
buried in George Cemetery in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. In the 1850 census close to Solomon and Rachel's dwelling are also Joshua and Elizabeth Saunders, David and Leona Saunders, John and Rebecca Saunders and their families.
I have been researching marriage and death dates of all the above, and have not had much luck. Any info you can provide me with will be deeply appreciated.

Samuel N. Hendrickson lived in Fulton County prior to the 1900 Census. I don't know exactly when he moved there, but his wife (unknown) to me must have died there about 1897 or 1898. The birth of their last child was in 1897.

Can anyone provide the name of Samuel's wife or the marriage dates of his children.
Fountain, Watson

John Robert Fountain (aka "Pike" Fountain) was born 2/7/1873 in Wild Cherry, Fulton County. He married Lona Belle Watson on 3/12/1984. He died while living with his daughter Willie Fountain Meeks in Gassville, Baxter County, and is buried in the Norfork Cemetery beside Lona Bell and her mother Polina Owens Watson. We have photos of Pike with his children: James Homer, Zelma Agnes, Clarence Edward, Cecilia, Nelle, Willie and Virgil Hutton, and a tintype of Pike and Lona Belle. But we have no idea who his parents were! His death certificate, completed by his daughter Nelle, has "unknown Fountain" in the blank for his parents names. (His mother may have been an Adams.) We have been stuck here for years and would appreciate ANY leads or ideas!

I have about 80 photos that my grandmother left me when she died. The photos are of family and friends that she'd kept since she was a girl (she was born in 1900). As far as I know, all the photos were taken in Arkansas, or are of people who lived in Arkansas. My grandparents lived in Clay Co., for many years, but prior to that they were in Fulton Co., as were branches of their family. I've finally managed to get the photos on-line at Ofoto where they can be viewed for free, in the hope that someone may be able to identify them. If anyone is interested in viewing the photos, please email me privately at csisson@btc-bci.com. Surnames in my family tree include -- but are not limited to: Barnett, Burton, Carr, Crawford, Creameans, Dobbs, Fredericks, Gittings, Harned/Horned, Leonard, Kuykendall, Madison, McCoy, Rush, Speaks, Trotter, Tunstall, Walker and White.

I have an Ellen May Matkins that married Henry Franklin Anderson in 1889 in Fulton County and I'm wondering if any of her siblings might have also been in FC at the time...they are: Jane, Missouri Anna, Nancy Anna, Sarah, George, and Unity.... If any of these names ring a bell I'd love to share info. These children were born between 1856-1879...all but Unity were born in MO, Unity was born in KS! I think I have photos of 3 of these sisters but not positive.

Edith was born in 1912 near Bennetts Bayou. Her mother was Allie Renfrow and fathers name may be Claude or Cecil Foster. I don't know what happened to him, have heard he died when Edith was a baby...Allie then married a Luther Bales.

I am researching descendants of the family of Isaac Evert and Mattie May Lasseter. They lived in Mammoth Springs in 1930. They are buried in Field Creek Cemetery and also Riverside Cemetery. Death dates are mostly in 1950s/60s. Can someone give me advice on how/where I could find obituaries for this family. I called a local library, but they did not have newspapers. Thanks for any ideas.

Sharon, NJ

I am looking for information on Alfred R. Kimbrough and wife Rachel from the Bennett's River area (North Fork Township) of Fulton Co.AR. In the 1870 census A.R. Kimbrough 42 was with wife Rachel 42 and children: Thomas 19, Jane 17, Josephine 13, Catharine 12, and William 8. All were born in TN except for Josephine, Catherine, and William who were born in MO. In the 1880 census the family is still listed as being in Bennett's Bayou Township. Rachel is not listed with the family. I am assuming she has passed on. A. Kimbro is listed as widower with children: MJ, MC, Wm, M, and a nephew and a niece.
Can anyone please help me with this family? Thank you in advance for your time.
Sincerely,
Deann Powell
