Gerald, I enjoyed reading your account of your family working the coal mines. My mother was born in 34, Montana, Johnson county. Her father, and grandfather were both coal miners. It's Mom that tells the mining stories. Grandpa died in 1982 of Black Lung. He was the man who, in later years, went into the mine first, with his caged bird, to determine if the air was ok for the miners to enter. Grandpa was an honest, hard-working man.
