I am looking for a marrige record for him between 1865-1867. He was in Drew County in 1870 with his daughter Charlotte (Lottie) she was 1 years old and he was a widow at the time. I am needing Lottie's mothers name. He remarried a woman named Anna later when they lived in Coryell county in Texas. He was dischared from the Confederate Army on Feb.23, 1865. Any help would be appreciated. I will pay for any copies you could get for me. Carol

I"m trying to find the grave of my g.g.g.grandmother, Eliza Ann Bailey. They moved to Arkansas in 1870 (Census records for Drew County). She apparently died between 1871 and 1875 because he remarries and has a child by 1877. Can anyone please help me find the cemetery, or a death record for Eliza Ann Bailey....husband was James N. Bailey.
Added note: James and second wife were in the 1880 Lincoln Census - so either hemoved after Eliza died, or, they were on the county line when Lincoln was created in 1871.

I am searching for information on the graves of Eliza Ann Browder and her 4 children. She and her husband, Martin Van Buren Browder, left Florida and headed to Texas about 1874. Allegedly, Eliza and 4 children died of swamp fever along the way. I can find no documentation, explaination nor reasoning as to why they were in Arkansas. Family lore says that Martin buried his wife and 4 children in a "common grave" and fenced it off with cypress wood. He then continued on to Texas with his young daughter Belle Matilda. No word as to weather or not he left any other defining information on the grave.

Thanks,

Vickie
MBrowder53190@aol.com
Looking for information on Jesse White. Jesse was born in Georgia and married Elizabeth Cameron on 3 Dec 1828 in Jasper Co., GA. Jesse and Elizabeth had at least 3 children: James C., b. 1831; Calvin Marion, b. 1836; and Sarah E., b. 1839. Elizabeth died in 31 January 1841 Troup Co., GA. Jesse then married Samantha Bassett 5 Mar 1841 in Tallapoosa Co., AL. On the 1850 Tallapoosa Co., AL census, Calvin and Sarah are listed in the house hold.

I haven't found James C. White on the census yet.

I found Calvin on the 1860 Jefferson Co., AR census in the Clower household, just 2 house holds up from Jesse White. I haven't found him after that.

I believe Sarah E. White married William Washington Bentley about 1856-1857 either Troup County, GA or Tallapoosa Co., AL but haven't been able to find a marriage record. Sarah White Bentley died between November 1865 and before February 1869 in Tallapoosa Co., AL. If this is the same Sarah White, daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth Cameron White, then she and her husband, William Bentley, were cousins.

Sarah White and William Bentley had:
1. Ada or Adia Bentley - may have married William Gresham and lived in White Co., AR
2. Henry Bentley - no information after 1880
3. Mary White Baine Bentley - married James Anderson Keel
4. Wiley Timothy Bentley - married Minnie A. G. Elliott and lived in Bowie County, TX

Any information on Jesse White and Elizabeth Cameron will be greatly appreciated. I have information on the Cameron family of Troup Co., GA and the Bentley family of Troup Co., GA and Tallapoosa Co., AL.

Thanks,
Michelle

Sumner, Denton, Maes Death Information

Seeking death and/or cemetery information on the following persons:
Simon Peter Sumner, Sarah and Shipman Denton. Would like to find death dates, and place of burial. They resided in Collins Township and last record was found of each one in the 1865-1871 time period. I would imagine that they are buried in unmarked graves, but I do not know this for a fact. Simon Peter Sumner was awarded a pauper's payment in the last months of 1869 , but I couldn't find any mention of him coming back for next payment in January of 1870. His wife and children are listed on 1870 census without him. Sarah is listed on 1870 census, and I would like to find any court documents on her estate. Does anyone know of a cemetery in the Collins township area?
I am still looking for information on John Maes, born about 1834, in Wisconsin, who married Simon Peter Sumner's wife Elmyra in 1871. I believe he was a union soldier, but don't know what he was doing in Drew County that late after the war. Elmyra does not show up on any census again until 1910, as a widow.

Riner family, 1850

Can anyone tell me anything about the Riner family, who appears in the 1850 census of Drew County?

They are living in Veasey Township in between the William Teer household and the Henry Pulliam household. Nancy Riner is a widowed head of household with several children (Robert, Richard, Lucinda, Nancy, Mary, and John B.)

There is a John B. Riner in the 1850 mortality index. Ancestry has his age as "24" but when I look at the record, it looks more like 40 or 41 to me. Could this be Nancy's husband?

Robert Riner patented land in 1857 and again in 1860, next to the James S. Grubbs land.

However, by 1860, the family appears in Hopkins County, Texas, which also happens to be where Margaret White and her husband William Teer went.

Am very interested to learn more about this family. Any information appreciated.

Thanks,

Melissa

He was married to Sarah (Thomas) Miles.
His last know place of residence was Drew or Desha Co., AR.
He died in 1866, his last census in 1860 shows him in Desha Franklin Co., AR. It looks like he purchased some land in Drew Co., AR in 1859, and he took the Amnesty Oath in Drew Co. AR in 1865, the year before he died.
I only know that he died in 1866, but we do not know where, or exact date, or where he may be buried.

If anyone can get or knows any further information on him would be appreciated. I have possibilities for his parents and siblings, but no proof.

Thanks,
Lisa Luther
While viewing the 1880 Drew County, Bearhouse Township Census I have found that my gr gr grandfather Britton Hart 70, NC was married to a Francis 39 Mississippi. In his household he had a step-son William Carson, 16, Ar. as well as his own two children Joseph Ellis Hart 19, NC and Mary Ann Hart, 15, NC. I'm assuming that Francis was Mrs. Francis Carson at the time of this marriage. Can someone help me find a marriage record for this couple in Drew County between the years 1872-1880. Until I found this census record, family members have always thought that Francis Hart was Britton Hart's daughter. I'm looking for all marriage records of Hart's in Drew County from 1872-1900. Someone please help. Barbara Brown bloubrown45@yahoo.com

Does anyone have any information Regarding Daniel Baker & Myrtle Bordeaux and their families

Hello

I have a co-worker who is just starting her research. Unfortunately there are a lot of her family members already gone, so there is not anyone she can talk too or ask a lot of questions.

She is trying to trace her Bordeaux and Baker ancestors. They were living in Arkansas, Drew & desha County around the 1900's and probably earlier.

There is a Myrtle Bordeaux & Dan/Daniel & Lizzie Baker. Myrtle Bordeaux was born in the late 1888-90. In 1900 I believe she was living with the bakers as a step daughter or was taken in the family along with other siblings of hers. I believe Myrtles parents died sometime before 1900.

In 1910 she listed as a Mryrtle Owens, widowed and had about 3 kids. Then in 1930 she is remarried again to a Enoch Deshazier and had more children. Through out all these years they are farm workers righ alongside with Dan Bakers family, so there is a definate family tie or relationship.

These families are black and they probably lived and worked on a farm with a number of people in those days. Also Dan Baker was married twice, for i believe the first wife's name was Mary. So the wife must have died at some point for he is listed with the wife Lizzie in 1900 and he is twice her age.

Anyways if any of these names sound familar to anyone please let me know. My co-workers name is Vivian and she is desparate to find any help and information. So, if you can contact me with any information and i will then pass it on to her.

I am searching for info on Robert Lawrence Eley who was one of the early settlers in Drew County Arkansas. Robert was married to Martha and they had children Josiah, Frances, Sarah J., Melanie Ellen, Robert Lawrence, and Loucy (could be another spelling) . They lived in Drew County 1850-1860. Robert married Martha about 1843 in MI or LA. Robert was born either in GA or VA. On one census it stated he was born in GA in 1816, and on another census it stated he was born in VA.
Juanita Unknown married Coy Clemons after 1930, poss. in Drew Co., AR

Coy Clemons, b. abt 1910, Ms. was living in Drew Co., AR in 1930 with Henry and Annie Blanset, who were related to Coy by marriage. Sometime between 1930 and 1936, I think that Coy marr. someone by the name of Juanita, but I haven't been able to find out her last name. In 1930, Marion twp, Drew Co., AR, there is a couple by the name of Charles and Lona Palmer. They have several children, of which the oldest is a girl by the name of Juanita, b. abt 1917.
I'm grasping at straws here, but thought I would just check and see if anyone knows who this Juanita might have marr.

Thanks for any help, advice, etc...

Dawn D.
Tucker Family in early to mid 1800s in Arkansas?

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
1860 Drew county map? also Willis & Chambers query

about a year or so ago, someone posted a link either on this board, the list, or somewhere else of an old map of Drew county. it showed an arm that stuck way up above the county between Jefferson and Bradley and presumably covered the Glendale area but since the town was not shown I can't say for certain. I can't find that link again and was wondering if anyone had a copy or knows where to find a map from around that time period. I believe my ancestors to be in that "arm".

The on-line Ark land records shows today's counties that their land would be in and has my ancestors in Lincoln which didn't exist in 1860. I know they were in Drew in 1859 as James Chambers wrote a letter back to relatives in GA saying he was in Drew but only a short distance from Bradley and Jefferson. He mentions my ancestor James Willis and seems to indicate he is nearby (but does not actually state such). James Chambers's land deeds also show him in Drew but no "township" is mentioned on the deeds. We know they settled around Glendale which is why I think that arm of Drew included the Glendale area (if the town even existed back then - I don't know- but it wasn't mentioned in the letter). I cannot find either the James Chambers nor the James Willis family in Drew, Jefferson, or Bradley in the 1860 census. Any ideas?

I am a direct descendant of Joseph V. White b. 1820 in AL, died in early 1890s near Hollywood, AR. Here's the line: James J. White Sr. (b. 1790-GA, d. 1860-Ouachita Co, AR), Joseph V. White, John Culpepper White (b. 1847 in Holmes Co, MS, d. 1925 in Little Rock), John Lafayette White (b. 1879 in Troy, AR, d. 1948 in Atascosa Co, TX), Adrian D. White (b. 1924 in Hall Co, TX), John T. White (b. 1952 in Elgin, IL) and ME! I am looking for info mostly on James J. White Sr. He and his wife, Citha, were living with their youngest son, Elijah, and his wife Rebecca in 1860, the year James died. Also anything on Joseph V. or John Culpepper White will be great. John had a brother named George Washington White.

I am looking for information on the stagecoach route between Luna Landing in Chicot Co., AR to Hampton AR . Also What line would it be. My gggrandfather Samuel Alvin Rial (1837-1891) was a driver on that line. I believe it passed through or near Monticello AR. It was there at an overnight stop that he met and later married (1861) Mary Catherine Larkin (1841-1897)

William BARNETT (1798) & Mary BUTLER (1806)

Seeking information on the family of William Barnett (born about 1798 SC) and wife Mary Butler (born about 1806 NC). They married in MS in 1826 where they remained until sometime after 1840. They were on the 1850 census of Morehouse Parish LA and on the 1860 census of Drew County AR. In 1870 Mary was living with her son William H. Barnett in Carroll Parish LA and was presumably widowed. In 1880 she was living with her daughter Julia Ann Mathews in San Jacinto County TX. I descend from Fountain Winston Butler (born 1825) who lived near Mary Butler Barnett’s parents in Lawrence County MS. I am trying to determine if there is a connection between the families. I am particularly interested in the contents of the estate settlements of William and Mary, if they exist. William’s estate was likely settled in AR or LA, and Mary presumably died in TX. Per on-line birth records an L.B. Barnett was born in San Jacinto County in 1937. This is perhaps a descendant of Luke B. Barnett, son of William and Mary, who was living in San Jacinto County in 1880.

I have a photograph of a three-story home owned by the Gates family that may have stood in Wilmar, AR about 1910-1915. My only reason for questioning the Wilmar location is because the house sits atop a small rise and while I have never been to Wilmar, I thought the terrain was flat. Could someone please tell me if there are hills in the area. The photo is black and white, but the house appears to be painted dark or the wood stained. Does anyone know of such a home that is/was there? Thank you.
Tours are available.

I hope this is not "out-of-bounds", Melissa.

I know that Cicero Root died in Monticello on December 24, 1940. He had a half-brother, Day Root, that supposedly lived and/or worked with him many years prior. David (Day) would have been born prior to 1870. I have no idea what happened to him. Is there a way to get an obit of Cicero? That might tell me where Dave was. Any information on the family much appreciated. Thanks.

Looking for the grave for ELIZA ANN BAILEY. She died around 1871-1875, shortly after arriving in Drew County from Alabama. Her husband was James N. BAILEY. They had 3 children. Can someone help me locate her grave? I know that their land was like on the line of Drew and Lincoln when Lincoln was created, so not sure if buried in Lincoln or Drew. Rest of family is buried in LIncoln Co....Holly Springs. (Not husband though, not sure of his burial place either, he died much later.) Have already looked in Holly Springs Cemetery outside of Star City. What about around Monticello?, or Tyro? Are there any cemeteries around those places?
Can someone help?

I am researching our BURTON ancestors, and I can use some help. Robert ( 1804 - NC ) and Jane AGEE ( 1814 - AL or TN) Burton married in the early 1820's, possibly in TN where they had 3 0 4 children before moving on to MS in the 1840's where they produced 3 more children before migrating to Drew County, AR. Here they had 3 more children for a total of 10. Robert was here by the 1850 census. Several censuses showed the children's families living in the Spring-hill and Clear Creek areas of Drew County, but by the 1880 census, several of the children were living in Lincoln County.

Robert Burton ( the 2nd ) and wife Nancy S. (Briggs) Cummings lived in the Cane Creek area with 4 children and his mother, Jane Burton. Also in Cane Creek were David Burton and his wife Mary Ann WALL with their 4 children. In the Lone Pine area were Frances Leona BURTON and her husband Jonathan Jesse Shook and their 4 young children.

William Jefferson Burton who married Miram THOMAS is re-
puted to have died in the Civil War in 1863. James A. Burton married Elizabeth LINDSEY and died in 1861. Mary Jane
BURTON married (1) George Washington Nichols in 1856;
(2) William F. Chandler in 1861'; and (3) Albanius Julius Hall
in 1868. Sara Elizabeth BURTON wed William M. Smith.
Another child, John H. Burton, has no information.

I know that these people should have descendants living in
Drew County or Lincoln County. David Burton and his wife,
Mary Ann Wall, are our direct ancestors; yet, I do not find
a record of his burial. His granddaughter once told me that her father said that David was supposed to be buried in Union Ridge, but they could not find a grave. I can not, either.

I would appreciate any help or advice.
