John Jones b. ca. 1780-1790 came to Drew County, Arkansas from Mississippi. His wife was Nancy Rodgers, daughter of Mary J. B. Rodgers, brother was Hugh Rodgers. In 1840, they were in Union County (later Drew), Marion Township. One of their sons was James Barnett Rodgers Jones, b.1834 in Missiippi.
Nancy Rodgers Jones was not in 1850 census. Next wife was widow Martha "Mattie" Thacker with two children, Hugh L.(son) and Martha D.(daughter). John Jones and widow Thacker married and had children from that Union.
Jaames Barnett Rodgers Jones (from first marriage) and Martha D. Thacker (step sister from second marriage) were married in Drew County on 14 July 1859. IN 1860, they lived in Drew County, Ferguson Township, Dearmons Post Office.
In June, 1861 James Barnett Rodgers Jones left for the War Between the States with Company C, 3rd Arkansas Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He served four years and returned at the end of the war, but then moved family to Texas.
