I'm trying to get information about my great grandfather John Maulding and his wife Hattie Owens, and any family information prior to their marriage. The most I have ever found is from this site, when John and Hattie's first 2 children were born, I believe in 1890. Eventually, they had 4 daughters, Kate, Verna, Tommie, and Mary.
According to the information on the Desha site, his parents were Alex Maulding who married Mary B. Neill and they had 3 children, including John.

Chances are the marriage is in 1949 but iffy on the date. This couple was from St Louis MO but family members say they married in Pickens Arkansas, along with Mary Jane's sister and her beau.

On the back of the picture are the names Blanche Nelson and Wanda Parker but nothing more. My mother, Hazel Conrad, had this picture for years and I've always wondered who the ladies were: family? friends? schoolmates? If you know either of these two ladies or have any connections, I would like to hear from you: Bahai@northcc.net

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
John "Henry" and Anna Peters

I am looking for my great grandmother, Anna Peters, and where the cemetery and her burial site is located?
She lived in Desha County, Drew County, and maybe Arkansas County, and Randolph County,Arkansas, in 1888 through to around 1902, or so, with her husband, John "Henry" Peters. He went by his middle name of Henry.
They are listed in the 1900 US Census, in Desha County Arkansas, with their children, Mary, Joseph, Alice, and Willie. I am not sure when or where they moved from these counties to, but Anna is not listed in the 1910 Census?
I know that Anna had died at a early age, of thirty four, or thirty -five years old, or so. She was born in 1868 and died around 1902, I think ,but I am not positive these are the correct dates?
John "Henry" Peters was born in 1849 or 1850, though the 1900 Census says that his birth date was 1853, I believe. He died in Cross County, Arkansas, in 1933.
I am trying to find out where Anna Peters is buried, and do not believe, though I could be incorrect about this, that she was buried in Drew or Desha County, or Cross County,AR..
I think that they traveled from Desha County to either Randolph County,AR, or Arkansas County, or some other county in this area, and that she could be buried in one of those counties in Arkansas, or in some county in this area, that I do not know of,or to have listed here in this message?
I appreciate any help that you could give me in helping me find where Anna Peters cemetery burial site may be located!

Sexton/Watson families Red Fork Desha County

I am researching the William Sexton and the George B Watson families of Red Fork Desha County. William Sexton was the first County Treasurer (1838-1850). George B Watson Senior was twice William Sexton's father-in-law (Narcissa and Mary B Watsonm Sexton). Both families appear to have migrated to Desha (then Arkansas) Co from Concordia Parish LA between 1834 and 1837 and were prominent in early Desha County affairs. George B Watson Jr married Sophia WP Camac in Concordia Parish LA in 1828. They had sons, Lewis and John and daughters Mary and Narcissa. Narcissa married Dr Charles L French abt 1859 and moved to California. George subsequently married Harriet and had several more children. William Sexton's presumed father was Daniel Sextion Senior d 1843, age 72 years, in Desha County. Daniel was preceded in death by his second wife, Nancy Brooks Sexton in 1841 in Red Fork. Daniel Sexton Jr, b 1818 Concordia LA, left Arkansas for California in 1841. Any additional information on these families will be appreciated.

Jacob and Minnie Wool had several children. In 1910 they were living in Mississippi Township in Desha County. One daughter, Annie, was married to Mack Mote. Evidently she was previously married to Mr. Olrige (Alrige?) as a step-son listed as Bonnie was living with them. One Wool son, John, was living in Bolivar County, MS, in 1920. The rest of the family seems to have vanished as does he before 1930. Any information appreciated..

steamer Miami explosion January 1866 and newspapers

Hello: I am trying to locate a list of survivors for this accident. The steamer Miami left Memphis for Little Rock and exploded very near to the town of Napoleon on the night of 28 January 1866. I have obtained some newspapers for a few dates right after the accident, but none mention all the names of the survivors (which were not many).

I know there was a newspaper published in Napoleon at that time but cannot find any issues for the appropriate dates. Anyone that may know their whereabouts, please cannot me and let me know. Thanks!!! Emile

Grandfather is Joseph David CALDWELL b. 15 Jun, 1897. His SS app. in 1937 gives pob Little Rock, AR and his parents Dave CALDWELL/ Betty CLARK. His WW1 draft card in 1918 gives pob McKee Co, AR. I think there is no such place, but there is a McGehee, Desha, AR. There is a difference in the handwriting on the card between the signature and the rest of the card; that could mean an interpretation error.Tradition says that Joe was raised by an aunt, possibly meaning that his parents had died. Have been unable to find him in any census. The earliest record is his marriage to Iva MARLOW, Mar, 1918 in Cottle Co, TX.

I am searching for a town or county called Yonkeepen. I may have the spelling wrong, but my father was born there in 1920. Is this place still in existence? Has the name been changed? Has it been annexed? Any info would be appreciated.

I am looking for info on my great grandfather Sylvester Poyner. He was born in Missouri abt 1858. He was married more than once. I have a marriage cert. for him in webb city , missouri, in 1910. He married my great grandmother Bell Honeycutt @1918 i believe. The only official record i have of him is on the 1920 census for Wagoner, Oklahoma. I know they lived in New Madrid, Missouri because my grandfather was born there (Jewel D. Poyner 1926). The family then moved to Desha County Arkansas, (Mcarthur). There children (that I know of) were Sylvester, Jewel, Josephine (josie), & Mary.
I know Sylvester sr. was rather old when he married Bell, the 1920 census shows he was in his 60's, she in her late 20's!!!
The census also says that Sylvesters father was born in Ohio.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Dennis A. Poyner

I am trying to learn some things about Mozart in Desha Co. and how it got its name. I know there is a Mozart Hunting Club. I read an account about the naming which might be legend or truth. Before there were roads in the area, access was gained by rail. One day the train came to a stop and a woman walked outside and heard the birds and said something like: "That reminds me of the music of Mozart". But no time frame was given. I would be grateful I someone could tell me approx. when this incident would have occurred. Early 20th century? 19th? Any info relating to the naming and what existed (exists) there would be most helpful.

Desha County - Knowlton AR

Hello. I am searching for information on a cemetary in KNOWLTON , AR. My great grandmother was buried there about 1910. I am told that the cemetary was on the MS river and that the river was "taking" the graves and hers was at risk. This was many years ago... But I am wondering if anyone would have any information on this cemetary and funeral homes that might still be in existance from that time period. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Colleen- Irishey727@aol.com
