Dear Uncle Rod,
I have just fixed up a picture to send you. It is a group of the people, our relatives, who were here Christmas day. Some more came after that, though. We certainly had (a) crowd and a fuss. They commenced coming in Christmas Eve and the last one left this morning. I will not hesitate to say that I very glad they are going, although I enjoyed their being here. Did you spend a pleasant Christmas. I hope so.
Look at Mother's picture – doesn't she look young, though, to be so old? She looks just as young as her picture, too.
I suppose that I had better proceed to give you some idea as to the individuals in this mob. Nowlin - 1930 Census

While searching in 1930 US Census for Owen Twp., Dallas County, Arkansas I found one family with Emma Nowlin, age 31, as the head and she has five sons living with her in HN124. In HN129, same page, is Walter Dickey, age 34 and wife Emma age 34 who has 3 Nowlin children (1 son and 2 daughters) plus 4 other Dickey relatives. Can anyone shed some light on who this Emma is and who is the father of her Nowlin children?

Looking for Harriett Francis Jones.Born abt 1850 in Ark. Daughter of James W. Jones (1850 Hot Springs,Clear Creek Arkansas census)She was suppose to have married a Gresham and moved back to Arkansas. (She lived in Ark. until her family moved on to Texas abt 1855) He was named either E L Gresham/or Elijah Gresham. I have looked all over Texas to no avail.I believe they were in Arkansas when they married or shortly after. I can not find a marriage record either in Texas or Arkansas.

Below is a copy of a obit. excatly as it appeared in the Dallas County, Ark newspaper The Advocate, Fordyce,Ark, Sept 12, 1935 Found at the Ark. History Comm, in L.R.
Mrs H.T. Garner, (Betty) Garner, age 74 years died at her home, Sunday eveing after an illness of several days. Funeral sevices were conducted at the Sardis Church Monday afternoon ar 2.p.m, by Rev. J.J. Hunnicut. Mrs Garner is survived by 2 sons, and 4 daughters, John Garner, of Lake Village, Ark, Eska Garner, of Tulip, Mrs. Ed Lea, Mrs L.J. Brown, Mrs. Green Robers and Mrs Jess Hogue, all of Sparkman. (My note Mrs Thomas Hopkins Garner, real name is Annie Elizabeth?? Apparently she was called Betty) She is buried in Sardis cemt, behind the church by her husband.

I have a poem written by Florence Beard Dickinson in 1929 that I would like to see given to her descendants. She was married to Albert Burton Dickinson on 27 Apr. 1902 in Dallas Co. AR and had 3 children. She was born 1876 and died in 1929. Her parents were William and Frances Beard and was living in Carroll Township, Ouachita Co. AR in 1880 along with her parents and siblings: Mary 12, Lillie 9, Burrell 5 and Franklin 1 years old. This poem is quite sentimental and 6 pages and I'm sure it would be invaluable
to her descendants! Carroll Township is near Smead and Ouachita, Arkansas near the Dallas/ Ouachita Co. lines. Albert died in 1966 near Sparkman, Dallas Co. AR.

I am searching for any information on my great great grandparents Daniel and Mary Jones, especially the names of their parents. Daniel was born appx 1877 in Arkansas according to the 1910 and 1920 census, exact location unknown to me. He married Mary (also called Molly) Hiller appx 1899. Mary was born appx 1876 in South Carolina according to the 1910 and 1920 census, exact location unknown to me. I do not know where they were married.

In the 1910 census they resided with 2 children (2 yr old Samual and baby Liliy later called Rosie) in Cleveland County, Arkansas. In 1920 census they were in Fordyce, Dallas County, Arkansas with 3 children (9 yr old Liliy, my great grandmother Minnie at 7 yrs old, and 5 yr old Haskel). Daniel was an ordained minister in the Church of God In Christ. Daniel died probably around 1924 in Fordyce and Mary later moved to Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas where she died around 1947.

I do not know Daniel's siblings' names or if he had any. Mary had at least one sister named Jane. I'm hoping someone else is researching this branch of the family and can shed some light on Daniel and Mary's parents' names. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ellen married George jones (?) and had two children, Roxie Ann Jones (b. 1871) and Roman Lasley Jones (b. 1877). They all lived in Buffalo, Dallas Co., MO. Ellen married F.W. Webber on Dec. 22, 1889 in Buffalo, second marriage for both. I don't have any death information. I have a family picture that may include Ellen and F.W. Webber.

My father, James Estes Wood, was born in Dallas County, Arkansas in January 1934 to John Bailer. Wood and Dean Taylor. Some of his brothers who have since died are Reese, Bill, and Newman Wood. There was 1 sister Johnny Ruth. As far as I know there is 1 living brother Floyd. My dad dated, married, and later divorced Hildred Garner. My dad's grandparents are James Louis Wood and Martha B Green; his great grandparents are Bailer Green and Elvira Bledsoe. He is also related to Lashely Levi Wood.

I grew up not knowing anyone, or anything, about my Dad's side of the family. As I am his 3rd daughter from his 2nd marriage, I have grown up without the benefit of family photos, stories, or memories. I'm hoping to 1) learn more info about my Dad and family and 2) obtain any photos of my relatives that I can. My Dad died on 9/11/1997 in Saginaw, TX--unfortunately my interest in my family didn't peak until after his death.

Also, if anyone has any information on Dean Taylor that would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for the final resting place of Francis M.M. Willis Gatling's father, Rev. Nicholas W. Willis who died 19 Sept 1861 in Princeton, Dallas Co., AR. Nicholas was first married to Nancy Turner both born in Caswell Co., NC and migrated to Fayette Co., TN. They had eight children. Nancy died in 1854 in TN, and Nicolas marries a widow, Eleanor Amelia Richardson Hollis Willis. I don't know if Francis M.M. is a daughter of Nicholas' by his 1st or 2nd wife? Would like info on these families and especially who the Sarah A. Wyatt was related to. John Wyatt was administrator for J.J. Higgenbotham (her husband), but don't know what the relationship was. She was not mentioned in the will of Samuel Wyatt (father of John)--and who had a sister, Sarah A. Wyatt.

the 1920 census shows his age being 26 in Union County, El Dorado, Arkansas. It lists him as a tailor and owning his own shop. Shows his wife as Ollie ( Haney ) Shields born 11 - 14 - 1893 in Arkansas. Edward and Ollie Shields had a son who they named Edward Jr.in abt 1923 and she died about 1924 when he was abt one year old. In the 1930 census shows Edward Shields age 35, AR - AR - AR, Shows wife Bessie was 23, married at age 18, AR - TN - AR, in Union County, El Dorado, Arkansas, also shows that there was a son Edward Jr, age 7, AR -AR - AR,

It has been told that Edwards parents and possible other members of the family were killed in a fire when Edward was small, but have not been proven, but it seems very possible as Edward was listed in the 1900 census being in the household of his uncle Emery L. Stover being age 5 and in the 1910 census he was still listed with Emery H. Stover age 15, in Fordyce, Dallas County, Arkansas.
Looking for Ideas, suggestions, or any thing that might lead find out who Edward's parents was and I wonder
if there was a newspaper published around 1895 to 1900 at Fordyce, Dallas County, Ar. In 1900 3 house's from where Emery Stover was a household of Haynie's.

Would like any info on Nancy and her husbands. Nancy Wyatt b. abt 1833 Georgia, dau of Samuel Wyatt who was in Heard Co. 1840 and Dallas Co. 1850.

His daughter Nancy Wyatt married l) James HURST(HIRST) 3 July 1845 in Dallas Co. Ar. Cannot find them in 1850.

In 1861--Samuel Wyatt's administration papers mentions --
" WILLIAM JOHNSON in his right of his wife NANCY JOHNSON (formerly Nancy Wyatt) of Bosier Parish Louisiana"

I am a descendent of Elijah Hillman Green an early settler in Dallas County, Arkansas. I have an extensive family tree for the Green family of Dallas County. However, a handwritten page, apparently from a Green family bible, that I have contains several names I cannot identify.

Walton Family of the early 1900's

On the 1900, 1910 and 1920 Manchester Township, Dallas Co., AR. Census there were several Walton families that were related and traveled together from Alabama. Thomas, James, and John Patrick Walton. You can find them on a family tree posted on Ancestry.com.
On the 1900 Manchester Township,Clark co., AR.There was an Edward Walton b.1866 AL. Wife Elizabeth(Cooper)b. 1876 AR. and son Fritzer. Four other children Dette, Frank, Clyde and Augustine (Gussie) would be born in Dallas County in towns of Dalark and Griffin ( now nonexistent).
After quoting that brief history. What I am after is how were these families related to Edward?. They came from basically the same states and counties; yet, I cannot find a link.

William H. Townley and Lucy R. Beasley were married by the time the 1880 U. S. Census was enumerated in Marion County, Alabama.

By 1930, William H. and Lucy R. were living at Southall, Dallas County, Arkansas, District 20. They were enumerated on April 8, 1930. William was listed as age 64 [he actually was probably 69] and Lucy was listed as 72 [she might have been 71].

Since they were that old in 1930, they might have died in Dallas County. Would someone be kind enough to see if they are listed in any cemetery books for the county? I am interested in their birth and death dates and the name and location of the cemetery where they are buried.

Any information on this couple would be greatly appreciated.

My great-great grandmother was Sarah J. Thomas - who married Benjamin James Kemper. She was born February 14, 1845 in Hopkinsville, KY and they were married August 31, 1873 in Cedar County, Missouri. They had three children: Jesse Jonathan, Gertrude Elizabeth and Benjamin Henry. Jesse "J.J." was my great grandfather. Sarah, their mother, died March 25, 1822 and the only record I have says this happened in Princeton, AR. I thought the family was in Missouri at the time. What I'm seeking is a record of her death or an obituary from a paper there. Can anyone help lead me to this information? ... would much appreciate this.

I am looking for Joseph Isaiah Tucker and his wife Margaret. Their son Shird Tucker, is my husband's great grandfather. I can find Joseph and Margaret in the 1880 census in Alabama and then nothing for any of them until 1920 in Manchester Township, Dallas County Arkansas.

By that time Shird had married his first wife Emma, and they had their children with them. In the 1920 census, there is a Thomas Tucker and his wife living in the same vicinity as Shird and Emma. Joseph and Margaret are also found in the same census, same area living with their son, Clive(I think that's right. Hard to read the writing on the census sheet.)

I need to find out who Shird siblings were and if anyone has any information on their whereabouts from 1880 to 1920? Also looking for information on who the Thomas Tucker is living next to Shird and Emma in 1920.

Is this possibly the wife of Jennings Bryan Owens 1897-1979? He is one of the Ouachita -Calhoun Co family of Samuel Lafollette Owens. His wife on the 1930 census was Jessie, b AR c 1903. He died in Hammond, IN and I noticed on the ssdi that this Jessie A. Owens' ss card was issued in IN. Can anyone help? The obit might have been in the Fordyce paper shortly after August 22 1989.

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!

Info I have received indicates that he was born around 1837 in Alabama and married a widow, Susan Russell, in Dallas County on September 5, 1867. The information I received also indicates that they had a daughter, Maggie, who I believe to be my great-grandmother. Maggie, who evidently spelled her name "Stewart," married Albert Hornaday and lived in the Ebenezer area south of Fordyce. However, I don't know for sure which county James Stuart lived in. Thanks!

Francis Marion Butler was a Confederate veteran. He was born in Carroll County, TN in 1844, the son of Marvel and Emily Spoon Butler. After the Civil War, he relocated at some point to Dallas County, AR. He died in 1898. I am seeking information on him or any of his children that lived in the area. I am also seeking a grave location, death notice and so forth.

Francis enlisted in 1861 and was a member of J.K. Pearce's Company H of the 55th Regiment of TN Infanty, CSA.

I am willing and prepared to come to Fordyce or any local town to follow up on research on this family if there are viable sources locally, such as old newspapers, birth and death records and so forth that can be examined on hand in that area.

Raymond Earley, d. March 1991
Kermit Earley, --
Raymond & Kermit were Baptist minister's, I was told. All lived in Fordyce, Ark., many years.
Does anyone have information or leads for me to follow?

Looking for info on this man. He was b. in Paris, Tx or Ga. His wife was Ellen Lucinda Ward. His son John Henry was b. May 9, 1872 in Honey Grove, Fannin Co, Tx. He might have been in this co. in 1851. John B. d. April 18, 1872 or June 15, 1874, The story goes he went back home to take care of sick family or to sell some cattle. It was spring & he caught pneumonia & d. there. He is supposed to be buried in a Ward Cemetery

Daniel and Lydia Ramsey family

I am looking for info on Daniel and Lydia Ramsey.They were in Dallas Co.,Manchester Twp. in 1920. I haven't found them again until 1951. I found a record of burial for Lydia Ramsey Fleek in Tulsa, Ok. Was it common for people to divorce in the 1920-1930? Would it be possible for someone to do a cemetery search for Daniel Ramsey. I have several names for him,on the marriage record it has D.R. and on the census it has Daniel and then in 1920 it has Robert. If anyone can help,thanks.

I am trying to find out who my grandmothers father was.Can any one out there help me with this ?My grandmother's name was Florance Marks she married a Eugene Hubbard. My mother who is deceased died in 1970 in California she used to tell me some of the old names of the relatives and she spoke of a Zolliecoffer Marks as a cousin or uncle I'm not sure which.Also in 1959 a cousin of hers died by the name of Audrey Marks she died in march or april I'm not sure which but my mom could not go to the funeral as we were leaving for California.My mothers maiden name was Mattie Marie Hubbard. Also she said she was named after Mattie Marks.

My GG Uncle Charles A. Minney died in 1908 and is supposed to be buried in Arkansas, last know census was Fordyce Twp, Dallas Co, Ar for 1900, he had two daughters Mamie Minney born 1888, and Ethel Minney born 1890 , wife's name was Anna Hempstead, her mother was Joana and brother James Hempstead lived with them. any information would be greatly appreciated. I have just hit a brick wall trying to find out what happened to these people after the1900 Arkansas census.

I am searching for information on where the Fite Family lived. I know Moses Fite received a land patent in 1874 in the Willow area. I don't know if this land stayed in Dallas or went to Clark. Nov 17 1863 entry in published diary of Virginia Davis GRAY by AHQ in 1983 makes it very clear of a connection.

Virginia LaFayette (Davis) RAY, wife of Oliver Crosby GRAY, Headmastr of Princetonemale Acaemy, 1860-67 was an author and artist, she finished reading her book "Cremona" to Dr. Compton's wife 30 Apr 1866, noted in her AHQ published diary of 1863-66 by Dr. Carl H. Moneyhon in 1983. Many other of her works are mentioned, in both her published diary and unpublished letters, but have NOT surfaced. She, as did Fannie Borland aka Violet Lea, may have written under a diffrent name.

Oliver Gray was Headmaster at Princeton Female Academy until Sept 1867, then to St. John's College at Little Rock, 1874 to AR Indu. Univ., ending at AR School for the Blind where he died Dec 1905.
