Looking for info on parents of Simion or Simeon Tyer/Tyre b ca 1866, probably in Smith, Cross Co., AR. He is on census 1900 as "Sime" with wife Jane and they had 3 or more children who are living with their uncle Ambrose Tyer in Benton, Saline County not long after 1900. I believe they are related to Ajax, Michael, or Curtis Tyer/Tyre of Poinsett, Independence or Cross Counties, but can not find them on census. I saw a Simon Tyer 14, with his mother Martha Tyre on 1880 census in Smith, Cross, AR and think this is probably him but not sure. Am looking for a friend so have limited info. Would really appreciate any help. Sime and Jane's known children were William C., Walter and Minnie Lou, who was b ca 1894 Woodruff Co., AR and married Albert Matthew Wheeler 1912 Bauxite, Saline, AR. Does anyone have any info on these folks?

Murder Case, 1922 BARNETT, McBURNETT, BANKS, POLLETT, MALONE, PHILLIPS

Hope there is a history buff who can help me. I am looking for stories about a murder that took place in Hickory Ridge in 1922. Killed was Obie and Jim Barnett, on trial were Byron McBurnett, W. L. Banks, L. E. Pollett, W. R. Malone and Emmett Phillips.
The trial was moved to Paragould, and was begun December 7, 1922, several months after the murder. So the murder could have been around July?
Evedentily Jim Barnett was being sought by the dupty sherriff McBurnett, his brother Obie was with him, and the possee fired upon them. It would be interesting to read the stories put in the paper regarding this incident. I appreciate any and all help with this story. Thank you.

I wonder if anyone has access or is it even possible to look up a death record in Cross Co. Funds are tight and I would rather not order this death record as it is not even my direct line. I am actually trying to dispute some flawed info out there that claims my Jasper Barkley to be the father of some children I don't think are his. If I could just get the info off a death record naming the deceased's parents, I surely would appreciate it! Emma Mae Easley d. 26 June 1958, and is buried in a Cross Co. cemetery, so I am hoping she died in Cross Co. Even though the tombstone shows Easley, her last name might be West. Thank you!

GREETINGS FROM GIBSON BAYOU, CRITTENDEN COUNTY

Gibson Bayou Church and Cemetery Fun Day
September 22, 2007 – 9:00 AM until ??
Located on Hwy. 149 North – 2 miles from Earle
Bake Sale – Silent Auction – Entertainment – Food – Drinks
New Revised Book of Church History and Names of People Buried There

It is hard to believe it has been almost a year since we had the great dedication/celebration of the Gibson Bayou rebuilt church. The committee had said that no event would be held this year but numerous requests have received asking to have another FUN DAY. The people who attended last year had such a good time and the ones that did not get to come have asked that it be held again so that they can attend.

Another Fun Day will be held on September 22, 2007. There will be a silent auction with items donated by friends of the church. Anyone who would like to donate something can get in touch with Jack Stepp at 870-792-7574. A bake sale will be held again this year. If you would like to help with this event, please contact Ellen Holloway at 870-792-7342.

Joe Wood has put together a new book with information from people that attended last year and answers to letters that he sent out. He has worked hard to try and get all the names and information corrected and updated. If you have information on any family or friends buried in the cemetery, please get this information to Joe at 870-792-8386.

More entertainment has been lined up for this year. Please bring your lawn chairs, your friends, and come spend the day. The Masonic Lodge members will again be doing the cooking in the concession stand. They did a great job last year and we appreciate their willingness to help out again.

Drawings will be held for a 32 inch Flat Screen LCD Television. Tickets will be available for a donation of $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. All funds raised will be used for care and upkeep of the Church and Cemetery. Tickets can be purchased from any committee member or will be available on the day of the event.

We would love to see you and your family on September 22nd. Come and stay all day and enjoy the music and visit with old friends.

Thanks, Debbie Lunsford Yates

I am interested in finding information concerning a connection between MORRIS AND HAGGARD in Cross County, AR. There is a HAGGARD buried in Union Cemetery and there is also a William H. MORRIS buried there. Are these two families related in anyway? My great-grandfather was the Willima H. MORRIS buried there and he supposedly married a Matilda "Mattie" HAGGARD (she was born in Ross County OH), but I cannot find anything to verify this. Help me if you can and email me please. Thanks a million. Lucy

I need help finding HARRELL family that moved from N.C. to possibly Cross County Arkansas in the 1840's or 1850's. Possibly David HARRELL is the first name. My gr. grandfather Wade WEBB came to AR. from N.C. with his aunt and uncle with last name of Harrell. Wade had 5 children that lived in St.Francis Co. Remington, John, Elbert, Willie, and Robert WEBB. Any information would be of great help. Thanks

I have been looking for any information on Charley Hand, and Annie French. They were my husband's grandparents. I was running into brick walls, until recently I came across
a Hand/French posting, by "patti96080", also looking for this family connection. I thought we could compare notes and both of us gain a little more information than we already had. However this posting is over 6 years old,
and I havent received any replys from this person, when I tried to contact her. Does anyone have any information on this family, or how to contact "patti96080". Thanks, Sandy

I am looking for any information on my great-grandfather, Charles Marion Hicks. According to the 1900 US census, he was born in Dec 1865, in Illinois. On Dec 30, 1886, he married my great-grandmother, Mary Ann Pruitt (marriage license spells it Prewitt) in Cross county, Arkansas.
They spent most of their marriage (if not all of it) in various counties in Arkansas. They had 8 children that I know of: Lillie (march 1890), Montie (sept 1892), Raymon (Nov 1897), Charles Wesley (1900), Birdie (also spelled Bertie, Jan 1903), Ollie (1906), and Ruth (?). I believe he died sometime between 1905 and 1919.

I was told that he was Cherokee Indian. And that his father fought in the Civil War. Also, he may have had a brother born about 1853.

ANY information about him or his ancestry would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
GL
Snyders Cross County

I am searching for information on Jerre (aka Jere, Jeremiah, J H) Hartwell Snyder who was born in Wittsburg, Smith Township, then St. Francis County, 31 August 1860. His father and mother may have been Peter M. Snyder and Mary E. (Hartwell) who appear on the 1850 census of Smith Township. They may also have been Peter Snider and Rebecca Roberts who appear on the 1860 Census of Bedford Township. The 1880 Census records JH living with Mr. and Mrs. WH Morris in Brushy Lake Township. Mrs. Morris was previously Mrs. L (LR)Smith; she had three children and married WH Morris in 1878 and apparently raised JH and a potential brother TB Snyder.

In 1886 JH married Ellen A. Hatcher, the sister in law of Eugene A. Rolfe, the eventual county judge of St. Francis County. They moved to Jonesboro and lived the remainder of their lives there dying in 1935 and 1952, respectively.
M. A. Riley biography

M. A. Riley, well known among the business circles as proprietor of one of the largest cotton gins and grist-mills in Cross County, was reared on a farm in Shelby County, Tenn., and subsequently farmed for himself in his native county, until 1869, when he removed with his family to this county, and purchased his present farm of 100 acres, then in a wild state. He now has fifty acres under cultivation, with a good house, barn and buildings. M. A. was the son of L. C. and Eliza C. (Wiley) Riley, of North Carolina origin. His parents were married in North Carolina, and came to Tennessee in 1836, where his father purchased 320 acres of land. Mr. Riley, Sr., was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and died in 1846, his wife dying in 1881 at the age of sixty-two years. To these parents were given five children, three of whom are still living: William, John and M. A., all residents of this county. In 1885 M. A. Riley moved to Cherry Valley, where he purchased four acres of land, and erected one of the finest residences to be found in the village, and also erected a large steam cotton-gin and grist-mill, and has a large custom throughout the surrounding territory. Mr. Riley was married in 1868 to Miss Rebecca A. Wiley, a native of Tennessee, and a daughter of Macaney and Nannie (Lovel) Wiley, also of Tennessee. They are the parents of five children, two of whom are deceased: Luella (deceased), Etta, Laura, Robert (deceased) and Walter. Politically Mr. Riley is a Democrat. He and his wife are connected with the Baptist Church.

- Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Eastern Arkansas. Goodspeed Publishers, Chicago, 1890.

Tucker Family in early to mid 1800s in Arkansas?

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
Is there anyone with access to the 1870 census mortality schedule who could check for references to Samuel Malone and his wife Elizabeth of Searcy? The last evidence I have of them is the 1860 census and a probate record, which I am pretty sure is my Samuel, and which would put his death sometime around 1865-66, but I have no death record.

Arkansas Tims relatives

I am looking for any information and descendants of my great grandmother Tennie May LUKER NEISLER TIMS. I believe she was born in Tennessee. Her father's name was Will LUKER. She married Ernest NEISLER and had the following children: Mertie Lee (my grandmother), Altie, James, Pauline, Katherine, Francis, Hazel, Ernestine, and Ernest Jr. They lived in Arkansas--possibly the St. Francis or Cross County area. In later years, after the death of Ernest, she married Tommie TIMS and had Mary. Would love to be able to find Mary TIMS. Her married name and whereabouts unknown. One of Tennie's granddaughters was Patsy Shields (Pauline's daughter). I also do not know her married name or whereabouts. I believe Patsy or Mary could have information that would help in my genealogical search. Tennie May died in Arkansas and I believe is buried near Marianna Arkansas. Is there anyone out there who can help me find these missing relatives and information? Please contact me at my personal e-mail address. Thank you.

I'm just checking to see if some one would be so kind during their next visit to the courthouse or library for this county and see if they have listed an A. C. Crittendon/Crittenden. The letter A would stand for Adolphus. I located him being discharged out of the Civil War in Wittsburg, AR, 1865. Since Texas is at my disposal, I would be willing to swap out a lookup for this state. Thankyou very much.

Chuck Parker
Temple, Texas
Tejas1829@aol.com
