My great aunt Mary E. "Mollie" FELTS the d/o of Joseph J. & Sarah Elizabeth (Kennedy) FELTS b.7-23-1884 d. 11-27-1924 is buried in Markham Cemetery. She married Alonzo "Lon" DAVIS b. 1879 d. 7-4-1916(seeking his parents names). At the time of Mollie's death she had a 17 year old daughter Emma Alice and a 15 year old son, Joe Elmer. Does anyone know who became guardians of the children and where Alonzo might be buried

I am looking for any information on: Joseph STOKES living in Jonesboro AR. about 1910 to 1923 with his wife Josie and their sons, Ernest Joseph STOKES b. September 28, 1901, Luther Alexander STOKES b. 1898, Henery STOKES b. ? and a daurgther Laura Roselee STOKES b. February 12, 1908.
Laura married a Charlie Wood BRUNSTON about 1923. Two sons were born to this union while living in Jonesboero AR., R.C. BRUNSTON b. August 01, 1924 and Cecil Marlin BRUNSTON b. April 12, 1926.
Joseph and Josie moved to Little Rock, AR. in Franklin County where Josie ran a boarding house while Joseph worked for the railroad.
Josie's maiden name is said to be STOKES.
It is said that Joe and/or Josie was Native American, (Chickasaw)
Amoung the 4 STOKES children known, there was also a son born to Joe and Josie STOKES that died at a young age, and a set of twins. She also had 2 older sons born during her first marraige to and man by the name of MACELROY. She and her family worked as crop pickers and traveled around as the seasonal crops were ready for harvesting. While the the rest of the family was harvesting in the fields Josie was the camp cook. After moving from the Jonesboro area she ran a boarding house in Little Rock, AR. while her husband Joe worked for the railroad.
Laura divorced Charlie BRUNSTON between 1934 and 1936 in Little Rock, AR. and returned to So. Calif. where she had been living since 1928. Ernest and Luther followed thier sister to California in late 1948 and before 1954.

Father born in Texas, Mother in Indiana.Charles had a sister Blanche who lived in Jonesboro, had at least 4 children, hre husband grew fruits and vegetables. A half sister Sandra lived in Detroit, Michigan. Another sister lived in St. Louis, MO. There was at least one brother who also lived in the Jonesboro area. Survivors include a brother, Rector Cook of Homosassa, Fla., and a sister, Leota Creason of Risco, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mont and Sara Bell Johnson Cook.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at McNabb Funeral Home chapel in Pocahontas. Rick Hassell will officiate, and burial will follow in Maynard Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

I can try to find out. My sister knows more than I do. I have been wanting to go to White County and look up some information. Walter B. Creson had a daughter (my aunt) that may still be alive in Missouri. Both of his sons, Royal and Willis (my dad) are dead. There are still some families in White County that I may be able to contact. I don't live too far from Searcy and would like to go look up some information. I will try to let you know what I find out. There aren't many who I can converse with. Mary Jane Creson (Walter B Creson's wife) died soon after my father was born and he didn't know much about his family.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Brodell of Pocahontas; two sons, Don Brodell of Little Rock and John Brodell of Paragould; two daughters, Charlotte Baltz and Janna Creason, both of Pocahontas; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Ruth Dotson Davis.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Marks officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery at Engelberg.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas, with a rosary service at 7.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Cemetery Fund.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, in Cox-Waymon Funeral Home Chapel with Fred Hunter officiating.
Interment will follow in Maynard Cemetery at Maynard.
Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight in Cox-Waymon Funeral Home.

According to Harry's death certificate, W. A. Rodgers lived in Brookland, Arkansas, in 1936. It is possible W.A.'s first name is William - it is the name of Harry's father (who was born in Illinois, as was Harry.)

Specifically "Flot/Flat" Ramsey who had Ross family in Boone Co. around 1900 and visited them there. I have found that the following people with Ramsey surname died in Craighead Co.:
Erland Ramsey, d. 30 Mar 1918
Everett Ramsey, d. 19 Dec 1918
Levina M. Ramsey, d. 25 Dec 1921 (Note same given name as members of my Ross family.)
William Ramsey, d. 27 May 1922.

Are any of the above Ramseys related to "Flot/Flat" Ramsey? The Ramsey family may have migrated to AR from TN, perhaps Lincoln Co.

f- Catharine Gibson - b. 1844 in Tennessee, USA

The 1860 Census shows them in Carouse, Ouachita Co., Arkansas, USA with the following children listed in the household –
Peter Gibson - b. 1851 in Arkansas, USA
f- James “Matilda” Gibson - b. 1854 in Arkansas, USA
m- David Euphrates "Frate" Gibson - b. 16 Jun 1857 in Arkansas, USA
f- Susan Gibson - b. 1857 in Arkansas, USA ( I believe she was his twin)
f- Rosina (Rosanna) Gibson - b. 1860 in Arkansas, USA

The 1870 Census shows Malinda P. GIBSON b. 1851 in Arkansas married to General Francis McCRACKEN in Craighead Co., Arkansas. In their household we find Malinda’s siblings –
f- James “Matilda” Gibson - b. 1854 in Arkansas, USA
m- David Euphrates "Frate" Gibson - b. 16 Jun 1857 in Arkansas, USA
f- Susan Gibson - b. 1857 in Arkansas, USA ( I believe she was his twin)

(NOTE ** - In the 1860 Census record we have James Matilda Gibson recorded as a male and she was a female. We know this due to other data and first hand accounts from her offspring.

We do not find Malinda P. Gibson in either the 1850 or 1860 Census records although she was born in 1851. We do however find another child recorded as a male by the name of Peter. Thus I am making an assumption that Peter is the middle name of Malinda.)

David Euphrates “Frate” GIBSON was my gg-grandfather so I know what happened to him. I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR from more down his line that is searching and recording the family history though. David “Frate” married Amanda HANKINS in Craighead Co., Arkansas in 1887.

James Matilda GIBSON married William TURNER and followed her sister, Malinda and General Francis McCRACKEN to Boone County, Arkansas. Malinda died in 1880. Her husband remarried and raised the family there. Matilda’s family continued to grow and was raised there.

I would like to know what happened to Susan GIBSON and the other siblings. I would also like to know when, where and how their parents died. I would like to know the identity of William E. GIBSON’s parents. Florina’s father was Peter PETERSON. I do not know the identity of her mother for sure. If anyone can help with answer’s to some of my questions I would greatly appreciate it

I am researching the GIBSON line of my family. My oldest family relatives in the area that I know of were the children of William E. and Florina GIBSON. They are Malinda P. GIBSON b. abt 1851, Matilda J. GIBSON b. abt 1854, David Euphrates "Frate" Gibson b. 16 Jun 1857 and Susan GIBSON, I believe was David's twin sister. If not, she was close in age.
I find them with their parents in the 1860 Census in Carouse, Ouachita, Arkansas. Then in 1870 they are in Jonesboro, Craighead, Arkansas with Malinda having married General Francis McCRACKEN. I know what happened to Malinda, Matilda, and David. David is my great great grandfather. I do not know what happened to Susan or their parents or to the other children listed in the Ouachita Census Record.
I would love to hear from any family member or friends that knew of them and tell me more.

Amy or Amie was listed as being about 3 years old on 1870 census from Craighead Arkansas she is also listed on 1880 census. My great grandmother was born around the same time in Craighead Co Arkansas she went by the name of Anna Jane Humberger she married my great grandfather Frank Schaaf about 1890 to 1892 in NE. On the obit of George W. Condra states that he was a member of the Christian Church of Lake City. one of the former pastors was Rev. T. A. Minyard who preached his funeral. James' mother was a native of SC as were Jane's parents. Children of James and Jane (ROGERS) NISBETT were: William W. [born c. 1836-1838 in Lancaster Co. SC], Sarah, John G. R., James H., and Benjamin F. James moved from Lancaster Co. SC > Coffee Co. TN [1844] > Monroe Co. MS [1847] > Memphis TN [1850] > Craighead Co. AR [1852] > Pike Co. AR [1867] > Craighead Co. AR [abt 1872]. James died 1884 and Jane died abt 1887, both in Craighead Co. AR. When they came to Craighead Co. they located "where Jonesboro now stands. He was a farmer and mechanic, and followed both occupations for several years; made the first improvements and built the first frame house in Jonesboro. He then kept a hotel in Jonesboro for some time..." My information is from Craighead County, Arkansas (Biographies), The Goodspeed Publishing Co., 1889, pages 348-349. The family of James and Jane NESBITT [note spelling] were in the 1860 US Federal Census in Jonesboro, Craighead Co. AR. Any help appreciated.

I am looking for information regarding a Walter Johnson, that was the father of my grandfather. From what I know, this man was from the Craighead County area (he was a farmer), I've heard Black Oak and Monette mentioned, although my grandfather was born in Jonesboro, so thats a possibility too. Apparently, this man was involved in a fight with some of my great-grandmother's family after they found out she was pregnant (she was only 16 and they weren't married) and supposedly there was a newspaper article about it. He supposedly was about 20 years old in 1929 when my Grandfather was born. If anyone could offer assistance with this I would deeply appreciate it.

I am looking for any information about my great grandmother, Nora B Waugh. Especially her parents' names and any other family, where they were from, etc. I've been told that she was thought to be full blooded, or maybe half Cherokee.

According to the few census records I've seen, it shows that Nora was born in Arkansas, but I don't know what county/city. Those records show that her mother was born in Kentucky (no name listed) and list her father simply as being born in the United States. (again, no name).

I was told that she had at least 2 half brothers, or maybe step-brothers: Willie Kiger; and Ed, not sure if the last name is Kiger or not. A census record from Craighead Co. has a "Loura" Waugh (I've seen other family members' names misspelled on census records, so maybe this is Nora?)

This record shows the head of house as William F Kiger, and also has an Edward, though not the last name Kiger. It has "Loura" as the sister of William and Edward, and also her mother as born in Kentucky, and shows her father being born in Missouri.

I can not find anything that shows who Nora's parents were, other family, etc.

Sorry for the long post; I wanted to put everything I could think of, in hopes that someone may have information about Nora and/or her family. Hopefully I haven't left out something important!

Marriage Look-Up

Was just seeing if anyone in Craighead County had the time to do a marriage look-up for me for the following: Year: Between 1905 and 1910. Names: Charles Barnett and Getha McCullars (I think) In the 1910 Census it lists their residence as Lake City Township. I was particularly interested to see if it lists the the parents names of either party.

Marriage Lookup Craighead Co.? 1891?

I would appreciate a marriage lookup for the following couple..

David/Dave Brewer and his wife Annie were found in the 1900 Craighead Co.census. They stated that they had been married 9yrs. Both daughters death certificates state that their Mother's maiden name was "Lunsford". Thank you in advanve for any help.

Does anyone have any information on the whereabouts of Elmer Stephens and his wife Roxie (Roe) Stephens in 1930? I can't find them listed in the Craighead, AR census anywhere! I know Elmer, aka Mose, was a constable and the Marshall for Lake City, AR. Roxie died in 1932. If anyone knows who her parents were, I'd love to have this info also. I am looking for information regarding my birth-parents. First of all, I need to say, I'm not looking to interrupt anyone's life, I'd just like some genealogical information, to know where I come from. Here's the info I already have....the name Melanie Lamberth, or Lambert, but I know that could've just been my foster parents' name. I was born on July 28, 1975, at St. Bernard's in Jonesboro. I was adopted on November 3, 1975. My birth mother was 19 years old, was 5'1" with blonde hair and blue eyes, she was Caucasian and was nearsighted. My alleged birth father was 20 years old, 5'8", and had brown hair, hazel eyes and a medium complexion. I have brown hair and brown eyes.
