Hawkstone Plantation

Am trying to pinpoint the location of the “big house” at Hawkstone, the antebellum plantation owned by the Rev. and Mrs. W. C. Stout at the foot of Petit Jean Mountain in Conway County. I know pretty well what acreage was involved in the plantation itself, by township, range and section, but would like to find out specifically where the Stout home was. The Goodspeed publications tell us that Rev. Stout had a steamboat landing practically at his front door, and later documents state that all but one of the cypress-log slave cabins caved into the river, so the spot may be in the river today. The site was not listed on any of the plat maps located at the Conway County courthouse, so I seem to be at a dead end, as far as documents go, unless somebody can help. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries this area was also known as the Martin Farm. Many thanks.

All were married in Conway Co. just a few months apart and an E.B. HAMMOND sign as "security" and "witness" on their marriage certificates. HELP!!

Also, looking for the burial site and date of death for Sarah RINEHART McQUILLIAMS, wife of Churchwell.
I am looking for information on the descendants of Drury M. Allen born 1840 in Alabama and moved to Conway County, Arkansas around 1870. He was first married to Martha Higgins in 1872 and had two children with her, McWillie and Frances C. After Martha's death, he married a Mrs. Sarah F. Yarbrough(maiden name possibly Carroll) and had three children, Martha Ada, Charles C. and Walter C. She died in 1886 and he again remarried a Mrs. Mary Morris in 1889. She apparently died before 1900 because she is not listed with Drury and his children in the census. Drury was also known as D. M. Allen and Mack Allen. He died in January 1918 and was buried in Ada Valley Cemetery, Conway Co., Arkansas. Would greatly appreciate any information on this family.
Researching great grandmother. Mary THOMAS born in the Conway vicinity around 1892-95. Unfortunately, there was some kind of tragedy at the turn of the century and the Thomas children were orphaned and disbursed around the area. And, that, is about all I know. I would really like to to find out what happened to a Thomas family sometime between what I think the pertinent time period 1898-1905. I did find Mary at 18, along with a sister, Ellen (12), living with the Childers family in Morrilton in the 1910 Census. ANY assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

Looking for a transcription of burials for the Ada Valley Cemetery, Conway Co., AR. Would also like to know the history of the cemetery, who the land originally belonged to, earliest known graves, etc. My GGG-Grandparents, William Dixon Cobb and Jane Alice Hillhouse Cobb are buried at the center of the cemetery in the most elaborate of the graves there. Their graves are surrounded by many branches of their descendants, and the families that their girls married into --- Rinehart, Morgan, etc. Any information would be appreciated. Also, when is decoration day or cleanup day at the cemetery? I was there today and the place looked immaculate; very pleased to see the condition of the cemetery, but I would like to get involved and pitch in and help in the future, if I only knew how/when.

Henry Franklin JOHNSON, POW/MIA Korean War, Conway Co. AR 1930-1950

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Conway County, Arkansas as his home of record.

Soldier: HENRY FRANKLIN JOHNSON
Born: September 10, 1930
Date of loss: November 25, 1950. POW

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 17 families in Arkansas that have not been located. There is one family from Conway County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
My family came to Perry County from Tennessee and moved to Conway County and in an pension affidavit, Reuben Owen said he had known them since 1870. The Owensmoved to St. Louis. He may have been and attorney or a county official of some kind.
