Alexander Haywood/Hayward Parker Family

Hello,

I'm currently researching the family of Alexander Haywood Parker and Mary Jane Smith/Taylor. This is what I have so far.

Alexander Haywood/Hayward Parker was born March 4, 1848 probably in Alabama (Place of birth per 1880 Census for A.H. Parker, other records indicate KY or MS). He died January 22, 1892, probably in the Cleveland County Arkansas area. He was married to Mary Jane Taylor, who was born September 1846 in KY and died January 24, 1892. They had 9 children.

1.) George Thomas Parker born Aug 23, 1870, ARK. This is probably the same George Thomas Parker Aug 23, 1870-January 17, 1945 who is buried in the Macedonia Cemetery.

2.) Columbus Lee Parker born Feb 13, 1872. Family records site Cleveland County as the place of birth, but Cleveland County was not formed until 1873, so it may have been Jefferson, Davis or Bradley. Columbus Lee Parker died November 18, 1934 in Bienville/Jackson Parish area of Louisiana.

3.) Oceala Parker born January 20, 1874 married Mr. Shirly

4.) John Allen Parker born July 12, 1876. Does not appear with his parents in the 1880 Census. He may have died as a child.

5.) Miles A. "Tank" Parker born Aug 13, 1878. --This is believed to be the same Miles A. Parker as ssdi list as 434-09-4741 who was born in New Edenburg, Ark the son of Alex H. Parker and Mary Smith and who died in Clarks, Caldwell, Louisiana in June 1968.

6.) William Hayward Parker born December 27, 1880 died January 4, 1927

7.) Irene Parker born August 20, 1883 married Mr. Hester

8.) James Foster Parker born April 1887 died Feb 5, 1941

9.) Annie Belle Parker born Aug 8, 1890 died Oct 23, 1962.

Thanks for reading,
Rhonda Kirschmann
P O Box 2442
Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948
iguanagirlus@yahoo.com

I am in the process of putting together a personal family history for my fathers retirement. I know he is related to Rev. T.B. Little who raised a family with Nancy Tolston. I know he died and is buried in Cleveland, Co. I would also like to know who to contact to get a guide to the family cemetery. His son, Walter Willis Little married Allie Dixon, and that is the extent of what I know. If anyone one has any information on any Littles in Cleveland, Co. please let me know. Thank you very much.

Looking for information on the family of Leban Fletcher and Martha Jane Oaks, particularly their daughters Ella and Emma. Other children include William, Martha, Emeline, Lenora, James, L. F., Samuel, John, Fanny, Jane, George, Ida and Laura besides the twin girls, Ella and Emma.

It is my understanding that the twins were born in May 1872. Ella supposedly married in 1890 John T. Adams and Emma may have married in 1889 Rufus Claudius Matthews. Does anyone have any info about this family?

Betty

Hello, I live here in Cleveland County Ar. I do not recall ever seeing the house he was born in. There is a house out next to the Saline river that I was raised even k\lived in known as the Dave Cash place. Dave was into helping to run the county last century. There is a SMALL memorial in the center of Kingsland in between the old post office and a basket ball court, if i am recalling correctly Johnny was here in 1976 to deacate. Kingsand is a small town of about 500 citzens and everybody knows each other. I believe that there is more in a museum in Pine Bluff(Jefferson county) that may have an exhbit on him.

Seeking information on listed surnames, primarily concerned with Sigers and Crook, descendants of all are welcome to share. Sigers, Crook, Wilson, and Morgan originate in SC and end up in the Lincoln/Dorsey/Cleveland Co. area around Calmer and Glendale where the Hoovers, Ridgways, and Smith resided. Some of these families are buried in Rowell & Shady Grove, and others are yet to be found. The Last Will and Testament of Narcissis Crook can be found on the Cleveland Co Records website and links many of these families together. I have fairly extensive info on several branches, please contact me, I am especially interested in correspondence, Bible records, photos, and generally records originating with family.
Trying to locate gravesite of a Confederate Soldier, buried in a farm yard.

I hope someone can help me. My great great great grandfather, James Gordon died in the Civil War. He was buried in a Farm Yard, after his wife and son collected his body from a Civil War Encampment and couldn't get him home because of rains and muddy roads. I have no idea where this is, except, it has to be fairly close to where they lived as they left home to get his body. They lived close to Grapevine, between Sheridan and Rison. I can't find James' name on a muster roll, but by the following evidence believe he was with a company that served in the Camden/Poison Springs area. James died in 1865. The following information is all I really know about it. I sure hope someone knows about a soldier being buried in a yard.....

From a letter written to the Dallas Morning News by James widow, Mary Rosanna Waddell Gordon Gentry and published May 17, 1908. "Right at the last on February 25, 1865 my husband died, and just the week before the Federals stole the only horse I had, it seemed to be more..". The letter described life at home while he was at war.

From Finis Gordon in the late 1930's, son of James and Mary:
"William Porter Waddell was 'Uncle Willie' and he married Sarah Ellington. Old man Ellington had two negro slaves and did not want his daughter to marry Bill Waddell as Grandpa Elam had no slaves. They eloped and got married. One of Uncle William's sons was Elam Benjamin Porter Waddell, or Cousin Bob Waddell to us, the father of Willie and Lela Waddell and Troy Waddell. William Waddell and Cousin Fine's father were in the Confederate army stationed at Little Rock, later evacuated to Camden. Uncle William went into the army two years after the war started and never got across the river to where the main fighting was. He died of swamp fever." This mistakenly sounds like William Porter Waddell died of Swamp Fever, but it isn't, he lived and raised a family. William was in Wright's 12th Arkansas Calvery.

From a letter written by his father-in-law Rev Elam Waddell, 1867, to his brother-in-law, he states the following: "I will proceed to give you a history of some of our distress during the war though I have no doubt you have heard of them. Our beloved boy, Joseph H., fell a sacrefice on the alter of his country at Atlanta, GA. James A. Gordon(the lady transcribed the name as Tamer A Gordon) died of Typhis Fever during the war. These are all the cases of mortality or serious personal hurt that ocurred to any of my family during the war." then further down in the letter "William P. and Sarah live a little over a mile from us."

And apparently from the same source who took the information about the family from Finis Gordon, the following is written under a picture of Mary, James' wife:
"James R Gordon, first husband of Mary Rosanna, died Feb. 25, 1865, in an army camp during the Civil War. His wife and elder son, Finis E. went to the camp to claim the body and were on their way home when heavy rains and muddy roads forced the couple to bury their kin in the yard on a farm house. We do not know where James R Gordon is buried."

Marks Barnett Family Reunion

Would like to contact any Marks family descendents who are involved in the annual family reunion.

The following information is posted on the Fordyce website:

"A marker, which is placed by the Department of Parks & Tourism, is at the junction of highways 8 and 97. The Marks and Barnett families have formed an association and have done extensive work to mark the historical area around the site of the Marks plantation and the site of the family cemetery. The homesite is marked as well as the old Camden-Pine Bluff Road and the road to Moro Bay. Near the cemetery, where Barnett's body lies under a slab of marble imported form Italy in 1855, are picnic pavillions and antique equipment and implements. The family has blazed a nature trail between the cemetery and the site of a springhouse. Each year on the third weekend in July, the descendants have a reunion at the site, where a pig is roasted overnight (the old time way) in a pit, while the family members make music and dance the night away. July 2001, will be the 125th consecutive reunion."

I cant take credit for this family tree, I obtained the information from the library and the hard work was done by a Lugsford family member. If anyone is interested in the Roberts/Aikens/Dalton/Sipes/Crook/Lungsford and other surnames; I have information that I can share; (credited to the Lungsford Family.)

The information that I have on the Sipes family is limited; they came from Tennessee and I dont have anything past Jim and Garity(georgia)Crook Dalton(from Roweel) M.P. "Shaife" and Fannie Sipes came from Tennessee.
Susannah Workman White

SIPES/Seip/Siep/Seib

I have located an extensive family tree for the Sipes family. It stems from old "Prussia". It is dated back to the 1600's to Wilheim Seip. His grandson, Johann Paulus Seip and his wife, Maria Margaretha Schmid of Bavaria, sailed over on the ship "The Neptune". "The Neptune" sailed from Rotterdam, Holland to London and then landed in Lancaster, County PA.

The Seip/ Sipe/Seib/Sipes clan is from Contwig, Palatine, Prussia which is now extreme Southwest Germany on the border of the country of Saarland and France. It is located very near the town of Nancy, France. Many of the family members still live in the Lancaaster, PA and New York area and spell their name the Old Germanic way; Seip and Seib.

The Sipes' here seem to be the only ones that changed the spelling. There is a book entitled "Johann Paulus Seip: Palatine Immigrant The Neptune 1752" which I will be obtaining from a relative who lives in Colorado.

My grandfather, Raymond Junius "Jack" Sipes, is the GGGGGG grandson of Wilheim Seip. The book contains baptism records from the Lutheran churches in Prussia. The "Palatine" immigrants were a very strong breed of Old Germanics that came to America. When possible, I will make this available in the Cleveland County library as it is very interesting reading.

Tucker Family in early to mid 1800s in Arkansas?

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
Glover, Reed descendants?

Looking for any knowledge about the family of my ggrandfather, Dr.Charles Andrew Glover. He was born in 1873 to Jesse A. Glover and Emiline Reed Glover. He lived in Randall possibly all of his childhood, but for sure was in Cleveland Co. all of his childhood. He taught at schools in Cleveland and Jefferson Counties before going to med school. His practice was in Pine Bluff. His obit states that he was survived by 2 brothers T.C. Glover and L.A. Glover,, both living in Pine Bluff at the time of his death in the mid-1950's. His surviving sisters were Mrs. Mary Vinson of P.B., and Mrs. Marcus Norton of Randall. Among his pallbearers were Dr. Frank Reed, J.F. Reed, Oliver Reed, and R.K. Glover. He was married to Rebecca Brown of Faith in Jefferson Co. Any info on other descendants of Jesse A. Glover and Emiline Reed would be greatly appreciated. Now that I have found this obit I am really excited because it gives me several things I can check out.

Judy you must not be Cleveland county. Kingsland has not one famous person but at least three that I know of.

1. Johnny Cash singer song writer
2. "Bear "Bryant football coach he was born at Smith Chapel just south of Kingsland but it has a Kingsland address. There is a housr on Highway 8 going though Smith Chaple that says birth place of Bear Bryant, so I take it that this is the house he was born in.
3. Cory Carr I believe is his name he play professional basketball I'm not a sports fan so maybe you will have a sports fan to write you with facts on the last two men.

Coach Bear Bryant - Kingsland, AR.

In the movie Forrest Gump, there is a scene where some teenage boys are chasing a running Forrest with their truck. Forrest turns and runs through a football field where players are practicing and they show the Coach wanting to find out who Forrest is. Later in the movie when Forrest is playing in a Univ. of Alabama football game, he is handed the ball and told to run which he does and doesn't stop, plowing down the University Band. A reference is made by Coaches on the sideline about how dumb Forrest is and the Head Coach wearing a funny looking hat says "yeah but that SOB sure can run." Since Forrest did attend the University of Alabama, I assume this Coach portrayed in the movie is Bear Bryant.

I am looking for information on Elizabeth Rosamond. The spelling for her name could be a little different. I have been told she ran a boarding house either in Cleveland or Dallas County. Her family went to Kingsland to make her funeral arrangements. I believe her husband to have been Richard Benjamin Rosamond. She had a daughter named Laura Jane who married Joseph Thomas Elder, She also had another daughter named Rena Jeannette. She first married a Sloop and then an Updike. Another daughter for sure was Nannie who married a Pennik. Any help would really be appreciated. I have really been having trouble finding them. I do have the funeral home writeup for Rena. Thanks in advance. Debbie

I am searching for information, pictures, and other documents pertaining to these families that lived in Cleveland County. Specifically, these families are the William England family, William Trucks III family, Hugh Craig Sinclair family, John L. Sadler family, and Israel Hudson Ray family and his father-in-law Robert Raney.

I already have the basic census, courthouse, and other mainstream data, but would love to know any interesting stories or copy any pictures of these families. I would be very grateful for whatever can be provided. Thank you.

I have extensive geological information on these family names. I am a Workman by blood. I have a family history that dates back to Skye Island, Scotland, Ireland and Switzerland to the late 1600's. There are many maps, pedigree's, photos, etc. included in this book. This was compiled by several family members all over the state over a period of years. I will be happy to share any information that you are interested in. Many of the counties listed are Cleveland, Bradley, Ashley, Calhoun, Grant, Drew, Dallas. Many states are listed. President Eisenhower is listed as well as Daniel Boone. The O'Neal lineage is listed as well which is very interesting..dating back to Irish legacy. The McLeod legacy dating back to Skye Island Scotland is also listed referring to the "Highlander" legacy. Feel free to request information if you feel you are related.
Susannah Workman-White

I am searching for lineage information on Belle (first name Ida) Sanders who married a Jim White (possible first name James). Jim did NOT die of natural causes and is buried near the Grant and Cleveland County line. He died when his daughter Connie was a young child and she was born on July 30, 1924.
I believe they originally were from around, at least Jim was, the Grant County area around Lees Ferry or within that vicinity. Belle Sanders White is buried in Wilson Cemetary in Cleveland County beside her daughter Connie O"Neal Robinson. Connie was also married to a Parsons.
Jim and Belle were the parents of Gladys, Connie, Bessie, Conrad Eugene who was called "Jack" (?), James Franklin, James Daniel (who married Agnes Hudson) and John Edward. ANY information on this bloodline would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Susan

I have been trying to find a lady named Ioda (Odie) Terry. She lived in Rison in the Leleigh Township in 1906 when she married Merlin Watson Williams, who lived in the Toledo area. Can anyone help me find who her parents were? Merlin was living with the Ben Lunsford family in the 1900 census in the Bowman community. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Odie was of Indian descent.

Where exactly was Fordyce Lumber Camp located? Was it in the are of Fordyce? I think it was in Kingsland Twp.,but I don't know if this township is still around today. My Grandfather was born in this Lumber Camp. He never could get a birth certificate, he said it was due to a fire in the courthouse. My Great Great Grandparents James and Zilpha Theodocia (or called Docia for short) (Frazier) Williams, also owned a Boarding house that housed the people that worked in the Lumber Camp. James and son William Harrison Williams both worked for the Railroad in the lumber camp. I also wanted to know if there was a book or something about this lumber camp? Thanks to anyone that can help me.
