Searching for information on JAMES STOUT b. 1818, murdered March 1, 1870 in Butler County, Missouri by Benjamin Arnold and his son, Elisha Arnold. Believe that James and his wife, SARAH A. EGBERT were living in Clay County with their younger children: Joseph, Mahala, Zeboder, William and Jane at the time of James' death and that he is probably buried in Clay County. Their eldest son, Aaron James Stout, lived in Butler County, Mo. and was a witness at the murder trial. Aaron was also shot in the arm by Elisha Arnold in the fall of 1870. The James Stout Family had migrated from New Jersey to Franklin County, Indiana, then on to Perry County, Illinois where they were shown on the 1860 census. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Susan Patton
155 Avenida Las Palmas
Rancho Mirage, Ca. 92270

My mother died recently and in one of her old photo albums she received from my grandmother was a newspaper clipping showing a five-generation photo. The caption mentions Mrs. Anna Kinder of Cape Girardeau, Franklin Trickey of Memphis, Mrs. Leamon James of Corning, Mrs. Billy Duff of Jonesboro and baby Ross Allen Duff. I'd be happy to email a scanned copy to anyone who thinks they may be related.

Before my mother passed away she took me to Black Cemetery near Success/Datto to locate her 1st child, Edna Daniel. Edna died about 1943 and was about 2 years old at that time. The cemetery had changed and the landmarks she was looking for were no longer there. I am trying to locate the cemetery records or death records for Edna Daniel. Her father was Farris Daniel and he and my mother divorced. They have both passed away but I would like to locate this grave.

I am trying to locate an old cemetary for the Toombs family that is located in Piggott or Pollard. My grandfather, Earl L. Toombs - from Paragould, took my family there about 25 years ago. What I remember is that it was out in the middle of a field, I believe surrounded by a fence, but maybe not. Anyway, my grandfather is gone now & I'd like to locate this family cemetary. I believe that his father, James Owen Toombs, may be buried there. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have some conflicting info, and I need some help. One version of the fatalities says Johnce and two of his daughters were killed, while a second version reports Johnce, one daughter and one grand-dau were killed, The grand dau being the daughter of Johnce's dau Erma. I have daughters listed killed as Jeanette and Delita. All I know so far about Johnce's dau Erma is she married Eddie Pierce?

I have all of their children's names, just I'd like more info on the parents.

Also, in case anyone would like a copy, I have a photograph of John C. Frew.

Thanks in advance!

Amy

August 09,2007 Issue of the Clay County Couier had a undated picture of Knobel's rail yard. The caption explained there was a second set of tracks (Iron Mountian) leading to Memphis.
Curious to know where these abandoned tracks were located leaving Knobel.
What was the next town, tracks went through, heading to Memphis? Could these be the same tracks going through Gainsville?

Dennis John Burchett and Mahala Barnes Burchett were the parents of my ggggrandfather Larkin Johnson Birchett born in TN. Larkin married Sarah Bayless in AR. They had children Martha, Mary Frances, John Thomas(my gggrandfather), Rebecah, Marian W., and Lydian. If any of these names are familar please e-mail me. I am also looking for information on Dennis' children. I have found one sources saying him and Mahala had 13 children and one saying they had 17. Some of their children were born in TN and the others in AR. Thanks for any help. I am willing to share information. I have lost email addresses for those that I was contacting about these families.

kozmastudios@gmail.com

I am looking for info on a John H. Underwood who was from Clay County. I'm interested in knowing which Underwood family he belonged to, like who his parents were, etc.

He was married to Eunice Potter and had at least one child; a daughter named Beulah Underwood.

I believe John Underwood died between 1901 and 1905. Eunice then married Van D. Baker.

Van Baker is part of my family, but I am also related to Underwoods in Clay County. So, I'm trying to see who this John Underwood belongs to, because I don't have him in my database.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Randall Baker

My Lack family has been located in Clay County since the mid-1880's, coming from Obion County, TN, and Halifax County, VA. The Winchesters came around 1920 from Dunklin County, MO, and Jackson County, AR, prior to that. The Blackshears also came to Clay County from Tennessee in the late 1800's. I will be happy to correspond with anyone researching these surnames.

JOHN R. LEWIS

I am still trying to find who the parents/siblings of my great grandfather, John Richard Lewis, were. He was born in Feb. of 1863 in MO. He married Sarah Frances Snider in Oct. of 1900 in Dunklin Co. She was the daughter of Benjmain Franklin Snider and Elizabeth Bailey of Dunklin Co. John may have been mnarried before and lived in Colorado for awhile before coming back to Dunklin Co.
John is living as a boarder on the 1900 census in Campbell with a Henry Mattson? family. I cannot find Sarah and family on the 1900 census although I am sure they are in Dunklin Co. The census says that John's father was born in Kentucky.
John and Sarah moved to Clay Co., AR between 1900 and 1903 when their oldest daughter, Gracie Agnes Lewis, was born. She was my great aunt.
John and Sarah were still in Clay Co., AR on in 1909 when their youngest daughter, Bessie Lennie Lewis (my grandmother) was born. Sarah died either giving birth to or shortly after Bessie was born.
John and the girls are in Clay Co., AR on the 1910 census, John is a widow. John remarried between 1910 and 1920 to an Underwood in Clay Co. AR. He was still in Clay Co., AR in 1920. His second wife died before 1920. They had two children, a son, Wilburn, born in 1911 and a daughter, Opal Irene, born in 1915.
John remarried between 1920 and 1930 to a lady with the last name of Keys/Keyes in Clay Co., AR. She died before 1930.
John and Sarah's oldest daughter, Gracie Agnes Lewis, (Agnes) married Leonard Boyd (Boyd)Vinson in Oct. of 1919 in Piggott in Clay Co., AR. They were living back in Dunklin Co., MO by 1922 when their second child, Dorothy was born. They remained living in Canpbell the rest of their lives. They are both buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
John Lewis is living in Ash Hill Twp. in Butler Co., MO on the 1930 census. He is living next door to his youngest daughter, Bessie, and her husband, Willis Brown, with son, Wilburn and daughter Opal Irene.
John R. Lewis, lived with his daughter and son-in-law, Agnes and Boyd Vinson from around 1931 until he died in May of 1933 of cancer. It says on his DC that he also had something on his forehead above his right eye. His DC says that he was buried in Pollard in Clay Co., AR but was instead buried in Rocky Hill Cemetery outside Campbell for some reason.
There are a lot of Lewises in and around Dunklin Co., MO I can't help but think that some of them must be related to my great grandfather. I would appreciate any help. Thanks
Charlotte Christensen
ly68@charter.net

Looking for a WRIGHT connection

I'm looking for anyone that might be related to a Thomas WRIGHT, or his descendants, that may have been in Clay County.

One set of my gr-gr-grandparents were Robert F. Elkins and his wife, Ellen Lou. Until today, I didn't know what her maiden name was. At some point I wrote a note saying her maiden name might be "Wright". I didn't bother to write down why I thought that, but it came from research in Clay County. I now have her death certificate and it states that her father's name was Thomas Wright. Her son that filled it out did not know the name of Ellen's mother.

I do know that before marrying Robert Elkins, she was married to a man named WEBSTER (don't know his first name). They had at least one child together; James H. Webster. He is buried beside Ellen and Robert Elkins at Cummins Chapel Cemetery.

Ellen's son also listed her place of birth as Tennessee, though census records say she, as well as her parents, were born in North Carolina. Since she married Robert Elkins in Weakley County, Tennessee, she obviously did live in that state.

Well, I found on the 1860 Census a Thomas Wright in McNairy County, Tennessee. He was age 30 and born in North Carolina. He had a daughter listed, age 8, named Louisa E. Wright that was also born in North Carolina. Incidentally, other records later seem to interchange Ellen's first and middle names. Sometimes she's Ellen Lou, sometimes Lou Ellen, etc. So, I now suspect that this Thomas Wright that was in McNairy County, TN in 1860 is the father of my Ellen Lou that married Robert Elkins.

Is there anyone out there that fits into this Wright family, or that can collaborate my theory? If so, I'd love to exchance information.

Thanks,
Randall Baker

Ben HACKNEY - Arkansas

I am searching for my great grandfather Ben/Benjamin Hackney. He was born around 1888. He married Cora E. Bradley or Adams and they had my grandmother Barbara Ruth Hackney. At the time of the birth which took place in Texas, Ben Hackney was in LEMMONS, AK. It is mistakenly listed as Lemmons, Missouri on my grandmother's birth certificate! The Certificate lists his birthplace as Missouri but that might also really be Arkansas. I don't know why he wasn't at the birth. I have considered that Cora and Ben didn't actually marry. She had two daughters by a previous marriage (to Walter Adams.) I have heard that Ben was good with Horses, he may have been a horse trainer, breeder or vet. He may have had two brothers. As you can see, I have very little to go on. My grandmother didn't know her father. He died "in a mental institution" according to her. He may have had Alzheimer's. I am interested because it is a mystery but also because of the medical implications. Unfortunately, I cannot find Cora, Barbara or Ben on any census records! Thank you so much and blessings!
Allison
