Thanks Judy,
It certainly looks as though the Binghams and Reddins intermarried, but the Perkins family also lived in Hardin County, TN in 1850 with a 14 year old daughter named Mahala. All three families lived in the 13th Civil District. It appears they were all very close. I found some Bighams there in 1860 living next to the oldest Perkins son that I think may be them. This is why I've been so confused.

Okay, looks as though Mahala Perkins married Vardaman Johnson and stayed in Tennessee. Her death certificate says she was 85 when she died in March of 1920 so she would have been born about 1835; also says her father was Cullen Perkins but he would have been her brother. Haven't found any other Cullen Perkins so she would have to be the daughter of James.

So I agree that Mahala Reddin was a Bingham.
