I am descended from John
Anderson Lee (b.25 Sept 1875 in
Carlton,
Nebraska), son of Jesse Lee and Sabina E. Pratt Lee. John married Maggie (Margaret)
Hughes, my great grandmother in 1896 in Galena,
Cherokee County,
Kansas. Their son, David Charles (later changed to Charles David) was my grandfather. My father, Derwood
Anderson Lee had a twin brother, Delwood (still living in Wichita
Falls, Tx) and a sister, Delores.
My mother did a bit of Lee family genealogy and we would like to know more about the
Pratts. There has been family lore that we are part Cherokee, but no proof. We have wondered if Sabina was part Cherokee. My mother found that she was born in Maysville,
Fleming County,
Kentucky on 27 April 1844, the daughter of John
Pratt and his wife
Lucinda, according to the 1850 census. Lucinda was born in
Kentucky in 1812. John
Pratt in or near
Baltimore, MD in 1812 (1850 census) (or 1798 according to Kate
Ballard) and died in 1894 in Indianapolis, IN. According to my mother, Betty
Joplin Lee,
Lucinda, John Pratt's wife, and all of his family except Sabina and her brother Jim, died from cholera during an epidemic in 1850. Sabina lived with an aunt, Narrie
Perine (?) in Marysville,
KY until she was 17 years old, when she went to
Iowa, where her father, who had remarried, lived. I have more information from my mother. Does anyone know about Lucinda's ancestry?
