Ulysses Grant HELVY and his twin brother Phillip HELVY (sons of Jacob Helvy, who changed his name from Jacob Cassady, and Mary Price) were born 28 Dec 1866, on a river boat in the Mississippi near Forest City, Arkansas. He married Pricie CHAPMAN, b. 13 Dec 1881, daughter of John Chapman and Mary Herndon and had 4 children. Their names are Omer Ray Helvy b. 1906, Ruby Irene Helvy b. 1909, Mabel Lectra Helvy b. 1911 and Bobbie Helvy. He apparently had a first wife and children by her before he married Pricie Chapman. I'm seeking information on Pricie's parents. She was an orphan and we know little about her parents. I would also like to know when U.G. Helvy and Pricie Chapman were married. I'd like to know what happened to his brother, Phillip, and his family. I have a ton of information on the Helvy line. If your name is Helvy, you are most likely related. Please contact me if you have any information.

I'm currently working on the Dewey family and information is limited. Anyone who can help me sort them out--please do.

I'll post marriages and I need the parents of the Dewey;
------------------------------------------
Early Marriages of Baxter Co ;
(not sure if the spelling Drewery is actually Dewey )

Hester Ann Drewery ? to John Williams July 17 1874

R P Drewery?to Lou Talburt Oct 17 1892

J T Drewery ? to Maggie Southard June 26 1898

G O Dewey to Mattie Stevens Feb 28 1906

W M Dewey to Victoria Burris Oct 12 1909

Ben Dewey to Rose Woodcock Jan 13 1917

There are 2 more that I have found info about;

Sarah and Nellie Dewey--Sarah married Martin Langston and Nellie married R P Russell. Sarah and Nellie are sisters and daughters of John Dewey and Elzora Travis . My question on this family is---who does John Dewey belong to ?

Also in Marion Co Ark is the family of Jordan Amosey Dewey and Nancy Emiline Burris--they had a son named William Archie Dewey who married Goldie May Tolliver. On page 58 (History and Families of Baxter Co ) William Archie and Goldie May Dewey's dau Epthodane (Danie) Dewey married Robert Latney Barnett. My question on this family is --who does Jordan Amosey Dewey belong to ?
And how does Nancy Burris relate to Victoria Burris who married W M Dewey ?

Has anyone done any research on a Sparks family who may have passed through Baxter County, Arkansas? Minor Henry Sparks and Sarah Ann Anderson Sparks had a daughter in 1855 who was born in Independence, Baxter, Arkansas according to one source. Another source says that Minor Henry and Sarah Ann Anderson Sparks were married in Independence County, Arkansas. Sarah was born in Arkansas about 1834 and died most likely in Sharp County Arkansas at about 1870. They had 6 children that I know of - Julina Clementine, David, John, Sarah, Henry and Robert, born in Kansas and Arkansas. Minor married Amanda Jane Paget in 1871 and they had one child in Missouri and then 3 in Texas.

I'm searching for any information on where my GGrandfather Esaw (Esau) Hamon might be buried. They lived in LoneRock,Baxter Co. Ark. for quit awhile. After his death sometime around 1920, his wife Matilda Jane Wooldridge Hamon moved to Oklahoma to be with her son Christophr. I've been to the Cemetery in Lone Rock. I wonder if there is a cemetery book out there somewhere with names before 1900 in them. If anyone knows..please email me at blondeone2@sbcglobal.net. Thank you.

(the last few surnames did not fit in the field: Walker, Comstock, Dickerson)

I will be scanning the Baxter Bulletin 1950-???? for obituaries. I extracted these names, ages (when given) and local cemeteries for March thru June 1950. Where a cemetery was outside of Baxter County, I have listed the location and where the cemetery was not listed, I have listed the town of residence. I checked only the front page. I did not specifically look for death notices in local columns or thank you notices, etc. unless I just happened to see them.

Mar 2
James Newt Davis 70 Elizabeth Cem

Mar 16
Ves Coke 51 Harrison, AR
Robert Lee Ford b: 1887 Upton Cem, Upton, KY
John William Bennett b: 1869 MH Cem
R W Lyon 70 Eureka Springs, AR

Mar 23
Dr Jason Fritz Norman 95 Springfield, MO
Isaac M Benson 33 Flippin, AR
W S Reyno 83 Cotter Cem
Flem Gibson 60 Flippin Cem
Daniel Muier 81 Bentley Ridge Cem

Mar 30
Horace Allen Northcutt 67 Salem, AR
Sidney Beavers 79 Heiskill Cem
Mrs Ida Daws 80 Burnt Schoolhouse Cem
Mrs Alice Parks 80 Mtn Home Cem

Apr 6
Ethe Hackett 88 Shirley, AR
H E Mitchell 77 Beaver, OK

Apr 13
Mrs Myrtle Clayton 83 Howard Ridge, MO, Cem
Annias J Payne 74 Fairview Cem
O E Amsberry 65 Mtn Home, AR
Mrs Electa Erwin Kemp 84 Gassville Cem

Apr 20
Louis S Ward Nat'l Cemetery, San Francisco, CA

Apr 27
Christopher C Lewis 71 Howard Ridge Cem
Mrs Belle Dora Lawhorn 72 Sunset Memorial Park, Twin Falls, Idaho
Mrs Rilda Marler Ellis 27 Pleasant Valley Cem

May 4
Bill Houston; Gary Don Houston 7; Mrs Houston 28 (plane crash) Stockton, CA

May 18
(front page missing from microfilm) Card of thanks: T P Conley

Jun 1
Frank E Welch 75 Maxville Cem, Maxville, KS

Jun 8
Mrs Mary A Kirkland 80 Gassville Cem
Mrs Liza Copeland 81 Gassville Cem
Mrs Eliza Berry 73 Yellville, AR

Jun 15
Mrs Millie Carolyn Walker 72 Walker Cem
Newton J Comstock b: 1869 Elizabeth Cem

Jun 22
Card of Thanks: Mrs Frances Dickerson
I am looking for information on Julie Lane. The story we have been told is that she was a cherokee indian bought out of a stockade by a frenchman in Oklahoma. They were married either in Oklahoma or Arkansas. We believe his name to have been John. We aren't sure if they ever lived in Missouri. But we do know that Julie is supposed to be burried somewhere in Mountian Home, Arkansas. We know that she could not have died before 1911, because she had a daughter name Cleo(Lane)Johnson that year. Cleo died in Missouri in 1997. Any information that any one has will be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone give me any information on who George W. Skiver's father was. George was born in 1828 in Indiana and later moved to Illinois and settled in Franklin County area. He was the father of Jacob W. Skiver who married Mary Jane Chambers in Illinois and later moved to Arkansas. I find George in the census' and have found information on his civil war attachment. I also have a copy of an estate in Athens County, Ohio listing a Jacob Skiver as the deceased who has a George Skiver buying an item at the sale of the deceased belongings. Could this be the same George Skiver and is this Jacob his father? Any help is deeply appreciated.

Looking for information regarding Edward Hiram Sanders b. 8 Jul 1889 & Bertha Anna Boehle Sanders b. 22 Nov 1897. My mother told me they ran a "Fishing Camp" and that Ed was a hunting and fishing guide. I would like their death dates and any other information regarding them possible. After Ed died, my folks visited Bertha and she was up on the roof making repairs to one of the "cabins." That was about 25 years ago and she would have been 83 at the time.

Gray and Wardlaw Family - Clinton Co., Ill to Baxter Co., AR

I am looking for information on the Nelson Gray family listed in the 1870 census in Township 1, Range 1, Clinton Co, Illinois. Post office is Carlyle. The family is listed as follows:
Gray, Nelson 47 male white farmer $150 born Alabama @1823
Gray, Rosana 36 female white keeps house born S.Carolina @1834
Gray, Nancy 20 female white at home born Georgia @1850
Gray, Margaret 18 female white at home born Georgia @ 1852
Gray, John T. 16 male white at home born Georgia @ 1854
Gray, Lizzie 3 female white born Missouri @ 1867
I believe Rosana Gray is the Widow Wardlaw who married a Mr. Gray. I think Nancy, Margaret and John T. are actually Wardlaw children. I think Lizzie is Elizabeth J. Gray that married Lee Dearmore in Baxter County AR. John T. Wardlaw married Louisa Melissa Morgan in Baxter County AR. I do not know what happened to Nelson, Rosana, Nancy or Margaret. Did they move to Baxter county also? Because of their ages, it is possible that Nancy and Margaret married in Illinois and made their lives there. I do not know who they married. I don't know if Nelson and Rosana moved to Baxter county or where they died. Any information on this family would be appreciated.

I recently found my gr-gr-grandfather, JAMES H. SAMMONS, b. 1844 Bloomfield, IL living with his oldest son ALBERT (Bert)O. b. 1876 MO in the 1920 Baxter Co. AR census. This census also shows children of Albert, but not a wife.
Upon searching the Baxter Co. site, I found mention of A.O. & a Sammons family of page 39 in Vol. 7 of "Hatch, Match & Dispatch" by Margie Garr. This volumn is dated Jan. 1941 - Dec. 1943. Does anyone have this book that can do a lookup for me?
Other children of James H. & Martha Brashair/Brashear are Arthur J. b. 1885, m. 1906 to Buelah Simpson Cody, (Arthur also lived in Mtn. Home for a time), Della Alice b. 1877, m. to Sheridyn L. Dobyns and Ralph Monroe (twin to Della) b. 1877, m. to Ella Belle Southern.
I would appreciate any information I can get on this family.
Thanks, Patti

Looking for Francis Marion LAWSON born abt 1844 in TN. that married Ida Lucinda ROGERS abt 1869. They lived in Mt. Home, Baxter Co. AR. abt 1870-1899. I believe they lived in Boone Co. Ar. in 1800 but back by 1891. They were in Matney TWP school dist. 51 on the 1891 Personal Property Taxes. Their oldest son, Joseph was also on the list. Their other children were; James Archie (my line), William G, Robert M, Martha M, Lizzie, and Dovie. James Archie married Linnie (Talbert) Collins. She was the daughter of Thomas Benton TALBERT and Amanda LEE. In 1906 they lived in McLain, Muskogee Co. OK. I am trying to locate the parents of Francis. Thank you for your time and help.
Pleasant Henderson in Baxter Co, Arkansas in 1880 census

I am looking information and stories about Pleasant HENDERSON b 1809 in TN and his wife Louisiana A Henderson (AMIS) b. in Hawkins Co, TN about 1816. Pleasant and Louisiana died most likely in Arkansas between 1880 and 1900 as they appear in the 1880 Mountain Home, Baxter Co., Arkansas census. I would very much like to know where they are buried and when they died.

I know Pleasant and Louisiana came to Greene Co MO between between 1840 and 1850. In the 1850 census they were in Taylor twn., Greene Co. MO with three children and three GALBRAITH children - all born in TN. In 1860 and 1870 they were in Webster Co MO based on census records. I believe Lousianian’s maiden name was AMIS but I have no proof. Pleasant and Louisiana were my 3rd great grandparents and the parents of Ann Tabitha Henderson (DILLARD), my 2nd great grandmother. I believe their parents were Samuel Henderson b. about 1783 in NC and his wife Tabitha GALBRAITH b. about 1785 in TN and James AMIS b. 1790 in Hawkins Co, TN and his wife Mary E. ARMSTRONG b. 1796 in Hawkins Co TN., respectively. Again I have no proof of any of this but I have some indirect evidence. I would appreciate any solid evidence about them that could be provided.

I believe the Galbraith’s are related to Pleasants father’s wife Tabitha Galbraith. I would like confirmation of this. In both the 1860 and 1870 census records Pleasant Henderson and his wife Louisiana were in Benton twn, Webster Co, MO. In 1870 Elizabeth AMIS b. 1838 in TN was listed as living with them – a sister of Louisiana perhaps? Can anyone provide proof of this?

A young boy, Columbus Henderson b. 1871 in MO, is listed as a grandson is living with them in Baxter Co., Arkansas in 1880. Who are his parents?
The names and birth dates of Pleasant and Louisiana’s children are:
Thomas Henderson b. 1835 Left home by 1860
Balda Henderson b. 1839 Left home by 1870
John G Henderson b. 1841 Left home by 1870
Sally H Henderson b. 1851 left home by 1880
Ann T Henderson b. 1853 Left home by 1870 (Married William C DILLARD) – my ancestors
Wm D Henderson b. 1857 Still at home in both 1870 and 1880 census records
Finally any information about the children of Pleasant and Louisiana would be helpful too. Where did they live out their lives? Who did they marry? Their children, etc.? I would also like to hear from cousins who have these folks as ancestors.
Thank you.

I am looking for any information on Margie Branscum who was born about 1893 in Arkansas and who died in 1976. She was my great-grandmother. My grandfather was Sherman Treat born in 1916 in Arkansas. Her husband and my great-grandfather was William Mason Treat - Son of John Stephen Treat and Josephine Huffines.

I only know her approximate birthdate from Census records after she married William Mason. I have one photo of her with another man identified on the back of the photo as JC Branscum son of Jim Branscum. My mother says that it is a photo of her brother. Therefore, I think her brother is JC Branscum and her father is Jim Branscum but I don't have any other information. I would greatly appreciate any help in positively identifying her family. She lived in the Big Flat and Moro Arkansas areas in the mid 1900s. I also know that sometime after William Mason Treat died she remarried to a "Doc" Reid.
I need help in collecting descendants from Uziah "UZ" Finley b. abt 1762, Revolutionary Soldier, d. abt 1844 probably in Izard County. Descendants have lived in Baxter County. There have been several Finley families in Baxter County who are undoubtably descendants from UZ. Information is needed to make links to "Ol Uz". "Ol Uz" had four sons in Izard County, William, Charles, Zachariah, and Norris. These sons all died between 1840-1850 leaving about 20 children all about the same age living mostly unmarried in groups in Izard County (1850 census) By 1860 and later some of these children have been located in Baxter County. Need help!!

Ellison's in early Izard Co or Baxter Co Arkansas

Hi

I need anyone with any info about a John S Ellison born @1798 North Carolina died maybe Arkansas after 1855. He probably had a first wife but only one I know of is Dolly /Dorothy Dunham born Oct 1812 KY and died after 1900 in probably Arkanas.

Dolly was married to Arnold Kester first in 1837 Lawrence Co Ark--second to Allen Morgan in 1843 Lawrence Co Arkansas and to John S Ellison about 1845 in probably Lawrence or Izard Co Ark

John and Dolly had at least 3 girls named Roena, Lizy and Lucinda but they also had in their household--Mary and Martha. Ellison researchers believe that Mary and Martha were the daughters of Wiley Ellison and Nancy Carroll (Wiley being my g-grandfather. )

If the 2 girls are indeed the daus of Wiley-they would only be in John and Dolly's home because John and Wiley were related. No one has ever found a brother of Wiley's father Thomas and this John COULD be one of them. I'm hoping someone has these family lines and will share some information.

In 1870 census of Big Spring Twp Fulton Co Ark there is ;
Ellison J 30 fmr TN
Malinda 29 TN
Columbus 10 TN
Lankford 8 MO
Anne 3 AR
Grant 1 AR

Is the above J Ellison a descendant of John S ?

Also , buried in the Williams Cem in Baxter Co is a
J A Ellison born Jan 6 1861-died Nov 26 1894--anyone know who this is ?

Also the names Rachel Ann Elizabeth Ellison and sister Nancy Cansada are of interest to me. Are they the daus of John S Ellison and first wife or did they just live with John and his wife ? Rachel was born 1834 Hardin Co Tenn . She and her brothers and sisters were in the forced removal of Indians and marched on the Trail of Tears so at least their mother was of Indian descent.

I'm asking a lot but any little clue helps and I need it . Thank You

What records are available for Baxter County?

Am planning a trip to Baxter county courthouse. Am hoping someone can tell me what records are available so I won't be chasing records that don't exist. Baxter county was formed in 1873. So, are there marriage and probate records from 1873 forward? Are there any probate or marriage records (for the Norfork, Lone Rock, Mtn. Home area) prior to that date at any location, i.e. at the Izard county courthouse since those locations were part of Izard county until 1873? I heard something about some fires at both courthouses but wasn't sure about dates. Would be so grateful for any further information!

Catherine's g-grandfather was a brother to my g-grandmother; I have been working on their family line.

If you know either of these families, would you please let them know I am tring to contact them and/or let me know how I may contact them.

I may be contacted me privately at suesouthard@suddenlink.net

Sue
