Re: Michael David and William Randolph Yocham
Michelle, some additional information:
Michael David "Mike" YOCHAM, b. 15 March 1847, MO- d. 15 February 1927, Inola, Rogers County, OK; buried at Inola Cemetery. I show he was also married to Nancy Jane BEVINS, daughter of Zena Viola KEESEE and Sam BEVINS. Their son, Almous / Almus YOCHAM, b. 18 June 1893, d. January 1967 in Buckeye, AZ. Nancy Jane was born 28 December 1855, AR, d. 13 June 1940, Inola, Rogers, OK; also buried in Inola Cemetery.
From book, "Of Grave Importance," published 1994 by Baxter County Historical Society, p. 54, Samantha Jane is buried in Burnt Schoolhouse Cemetery, Baxter County, AR. This cemetery is located in the Lone Rock area, Matney Township. It identifies her as "Wife of M. D. YOCHAM," with these dates: 25 September 1856, AR - July 1928.
Mountain Echo newspaper, published at Yellville, Marion County, AR -- July 2, 1886 issue:
An elopement is the latest news from Franklin Township. We learn from Deputy Sheriff LAWSON, who has just returned from that section, that John YOCOMB last week eloped with the wife of his brother, Mike YOCOMB. The elopement was something out of the usual order.
John did not steal his brother's wife, but they mounted horses in the presence of Mike, John remarking, "I have now got the woman I have wanted for the last twenty years," and Mike's wife made the same kind of declaration, only substituting "man" for "woman." They then rode off in the direction of Missouri, leaving five children each to be cared for by a grass-widower, while they "rub out" and begin life anew, as it were. "Such is life" over close to Missouri.
Then in the July 9, 1886 issue:
Mike YOCHAM has instituted suit for divorce from his wife who recently eloped with his brother.
Then in the July 27, 1886 issue:
John YOCHAM and Mike YOCHAM's wife, who eloped a short time since, have returned to their respective families.
Flippin Facts: I understand that John YOCHAM and Mike YOCHAM's wife, the couple that eloped some time ago, returned to their families, asking forgiveness and a reinstatement. Mike refuses to reinstate.
*******************
The above indicates M. D. and Samantha had five (5) children at the time she "eloped." The only one you name, that I already had, was Mary, b. 1871 -- and that is many years before William Randolph YOCHAM was born -- so was he born to the second marriage with Nancy Jane BEVINS? Locating the family in 1900 census should clarify.
This is not one of my direct lines. Many from my family are buried at Burnt Schoolhouse -- and entered all inventoried there into my records, doing research on them, but have not done census records on this family.
Good luck in your research. Hope this helps. You may find the divorce and additional information in neighboring Marion County, Arkansas.
