Not sure if I answered this before or not. The two Rogers/Rodgers children I am looking for are found on the 1920 Ashley County census - Herman(age 10) and George (age 11)- in the home of their grandparents, George and Dora Russell. Lois Campbell Simmons
Lois Elizabeth Campbell Simmons, 76, of North Little Rock, died on Thursday, August 14, 2003, after a long and valiant struggle with Parkinson's Disease. She was born in Hamburg on May 16, 1927, descended from pioneer families who settled Ashley County in the early 1800s. Her parents were the late Wesley Clifton Campbell and Adeline Zeke Johnson.

Lois graduated from Hamburg High School in 1945 and was voted "most likely to succeed." She attended Arkansas A & M in Monticello for two years and graduated in 1949 from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway with a B.S. in Education. She attended graduate school at Northeastern University in Tahlequah, OK, in the late 1960s. She taught English for fifteen years at Fourth Street Junior High and Ridgeroad Junior High in North Little Rock and West Junior High in Muskogee, OK. She had a passion for teaching which endured throughout her life.

She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of North Little Rock and a member of the Triune Class. Her interests included history, genealogy, poetry, literature, quilting, button collecting and nature outings with family and friends. She was the family archivist.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Thomas Harold Simmons of North Little Rock; her son, Michael Campbell Simmons of North Little Rock, a daughter Jennifer Louise Simmons, son-in-law Michael A. Dunn and granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Dunn, all of Houston, TX, and daughter Janice Ann Simmons of North Little Rock; a sister, Julia Louise Tyson of Hamburg; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bruin Louis Campbell.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, in the First United Methodist Church, 6701 J. F. K. Blvd., North Little Rock. Burial was to follow services at 4:30 p m. at the Hamburg Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Triune Class at First United Methodist Church of North Little Rock.

I spoke with Johnny today and told him that I had
met you on the computer. He told me that your
father graduated with my sister Virgina. He was also
a friend of my brother, Lavelle. He told he thought
your father went to La. Tech and received a degree
in Chemical Engineering - wasnt for sure where he
went from there. He had a friend that was from Wilmot
that moved to La. and he thought maybe that was the
reason he went to La.
Johnny also said he heard that your Uncle Charles had
been very sick - didnt know anything else.
I am checking with my sisters and brothers to get you
more information. He said Charles was the youngest of
his brothers and sisters.
He also told me that your aunts used to come over
to our house during the war and sit and smoke with
my Mother. Of course, I would not have known them - since
I was a WWII baby.

Isnt this wild - I just cant beleive it.

I new the Jones very well. The one I knew was Charles. I saw him at the
Wilmot Reunion a couple of years ago. Charles was the same age as my brother John.
You have no idea how many times I was in Ms. Jones's home. Her husband had died
when I was growing up. I always remember my brothers and sisters talking about
he only had one leg. Dr. Jones also delivered some of my older brothers and sisters.
Ms. Jones was the best seamstress I have ever known. I cant tell you how many times
she put in hems, etc for my mother. She was a life saver -because back then no
one had very much money. I can remember their home so well.
She was so nice to me. I wished that I could send you pictures of my memories.

I am sure you can asked your Uncle - does he know the Fuller's - I am sure a wide
grin will come on his face.

I live in Newnan Ga. outside Atlanta. Looking forward to hearing from you.
I will asked my brother Larry and Johnny do they have any pictures- and if they do -
I will be overjoyed to send them to you.

We are all going to meet in Monticello in October. Larry is having a eating out at his home.

I had a sister, Lorraine, and a brother Kenneth,
that also was in WWII. I bet your father had to
have grown up with one of them.

You will have to asked your Uncle Charles about the
seesaw that he and Johnny built on the vacant lot
by our house. I have heard so many stories about it.
It had a huge railroad bolt that kept it togeher and
it went round and round.

Did he tell you about the bayou that we all swam in. Did you ever go there.

I am 66 years old - so we must be about the same age.
I was born in 1941.

I cant wait to tell my sister, Lorriane that I am communicating with you. I bet she can tell me many stories
about your dad. Lorraine will have her 88 birthday.
My brother Kenneth died a few years back.

Beleive me - if it had not been for your Grandmother - I would not have anything to wear. She kept my

Corinth Baptist Church -- Location and History?

Hello--I'm looking for additional information on the Corinth Baptist Church. I know it was located near the Rawls community in the southern part of the county (though it could potentially have even been in Morehouse Parish of Louisiana).

The church was supposedly started by Robert Alexander GEDDIE (b. abt 1812, NC). He and his family arrived in Ashley County around 1855.

Hi Sandra, Thank you so much for responding. It's hard to believe I'm actually corresponding with someone that my grandmother knew so well. She was so special. My dad left for WWII in 1946 or so and never really lived in Wilmot after that. Uncle Charles has shared many stories about my dad that have been wonderful. I was wondering too about the people he loved that he grew up with. I do hope that you come across something with your siblings that you can share. I have been to Bayou Bartholomew. I used to go fishing with my Grandmother Haynes there. (my mother's mother) I don't think I went swimming there but I did go swimming in Lake Enterprise with my Aunt Bess when she lived in Wilmot. I spent part of several summers there between my grandmother Jones' and Aunt Bess'. I was born in 1948. Just turned 60. I'm not that far behind you. I've never heard about the seesaw but I will ask soon. I can't wait to hear if your sister remembers anything about Dad. Stories about Wilmot are always so much fun. It kind of reminds me of "Fried Green Tomatoes". Just a little knock around place that has touched so many lives. I have a few stories about my grandmother and my Uncle Luke on my ancestry site. Did you ever meet Luther Travis? He lived with my grandmother in the 1950's. I hope you will go to the site and look at the pictures and read the stories. My grandfather had Bergers Disease which is a disease of the circulatory system and he had several amputations on that one leg. He is so revered in our family as is my grandmother. She raised a lot of children by herself. Strong. Love these messages!

I think that my Aunts coming over to smoke with your Mom is precious. Dad did go to La. Tech and did get a degree in Chemical Engineering. I didn't ever hear about a friend from Wilmot as a reason for going to La. Tech. I only heard about the GI Bill. I remember that he Boxed in High School and told me he was pretty good. Aunt Flora and Aunt Grace died back in the 1980's and Dad died in 1993.. Cancer. Uncle Travis died in 2003. Did you see my Ancestry site? Did you ever meet Uncle Luke? He had been gassed in WWI and sounded awful but I really liked him. He and my dad were close. I misspelled Bergers Disease. It was Buergers Disease. He finally said enough about the amputations. We had an old ledger book describing his patients and what he did for them and what he was paid which was mainly in food.
