Cherry Valley is an *extremely* small community. That should be your point of focus. There will certainly be older members of that place who might remember this family.

If your mother lived there, I suggest you see if you can find others who might have had her in their school class. You have her name and maiden name and should be able to find school yearbooks. That would help you cement the exact years they were there. Then you go to newspapers.

That unfortunately is the problem. I am not sure what their first names are. From family sources I have heard my grandfather's name could be William, Clarence, or Charlie. He and his wife had daughters named Donna,Carla and Vicki Lynn(Vickie). I believe they also had 2 sons named Billy and Tommy. One of the boys was in the army. Vickie had 2 children while living in Arkansas a son named Bobby and a son named Charles Ray, who also went by Buddy Ray or Charlie Ray. They Both would have born before 1976 in Arkansas. Vickie was married to Willard Z. Haskin Jr. Dec 19 1975 in Indiana. She was born in West Virgina according to my birth certificate. I know my grandparents lived in Cherry Valley, Arkansas and in Little Rock I believe. Wish I could give more information but my mother left when I was a baby and my father and paternal grandparent are all deceased so I am working off of memories and what sources I was able to find. I know it is a long shot but anything would be great.

I will go right now & get those approved so that you may view them today. I did not see this post until after I had sent the first message.
I am at a dead end on my great great grandfather Jefferson Davis Smith. He was born around 1868? and lived in Liberty, Ouachita, Arkansas, and Jackson, Union, Arkansas and married Susanna "Susie" Vines. They were married in Louisiana. I cannot find a death record or cemetery with him listed. I think the Susie Smith buried in Olive Branch is my Jeff's wife. I cannot get past Jeff. My great aunts are very old and do not remember anything anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

George Calvin Lawrence, my great grandfather was born in 1854 in Alabama. He died in Crosett, Ark in 1910. On some public family trees he is referred to as Dr. George Calvin Lawrence. It would be great to learn why he is given the title Dr. and also any other facts about his life, cause of death, and public service in the Crosett/Wilmot area. Thank you for any assistance you might provide.

Mr Pool, Thank you for your info! I was actually just there last thursday! What an amazing day it was! My great grandparents had been to the large grave that was described in your note.(In the '80's) But since it was summer at the time & things were so grown up & they were older in years they didnt look any further. - But on this day everything was still brown & dead so I could easily go in & look. I found just the edge of a grave & as I cleaned it off I was more excited then you could imagine because it was my 3x great grandmother Amelia! Thank you again sir!!

Hopefully, this is some help:

Posted at:

www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~arcemete/crittenden/unknown.htm

Unknown Cemetery

Hwy 55, West Memphis, Crittenden County, Arkansas

Partial Submitted 04/30/2004, by Faith Truska

I have found another small family cemetery but do not know the name. I found it by accident.

If you are going North on Hwy 55 from West Memphis, take exit 14. Go up and over the interstate and get on the service road heading south, along the side of Hwy 55. After you pass the camp grounds look to your right there is a small clump of trees in the middle of a farm field. This is where I found the headstone. There may be more headstones but I wasn't prepared to go through a cemetery, as I had shorts on and the grass was very high. I'd gotten spooked by an animal resembling a snake, so I just got the information from what I could see where I was standing.

One large upright headstone with these 3 names on it.

surname "Mann" across the top

father

John C.
Apr. 17, 1821
Feb. 2, 1892

mother

Mary M.
Oct. 14, 1833
Feb. 20, 1914

daughter

Mary E.
Nov. 3, 1855
June 4, 1896

Mary E. must not have married because there wasn't another surname on the headstone.
Amelia was married to William F. Loring & then After his death married Robert Rolland. She died at the age of 30 & is buried on the family plantation with her parents. I would like to know what happened to the 4 children she shared w/ Robert Rolland. I can find no record of them - other then an article that says they existed. Also I do not know why she died. Or why her first husband died. Any info would be appreciated. Any at all!!!

I'm searching for my great grandfather, Ephraim Sutton's family. It is said that his father died, and his mother had some sort of mental breakdown. She and her children (I believe there were two) were taken in by her father, surname Newhart - but she was basically locked away in the attic. I do not know her first name. I've heard that her father was mean as a snake. My Great Grandfather, Ephraim Sutton, who was born in 1886 ran off and lived on his own when he was a very young teenager. I'd love to hear what you have. I've come to a standstill with both the Suttons and Newharts.

According to 1880 census Lizabeth Hendrick was born abt 1861, age 19 and probably age 13 at birth of 1st child Annie, Clem 1875, Emmit 1878.If she was born in 1826 as cemetery tomb says she would have been age 52 when son Emmit was born.
Rolley/Rolly is in the 1870 & 1880 census born abt 1843. 1870 Rolly b. 1843 TN, race mulatto, 1880 Rolley b, 1843 TN race black. Its had to determine race of Lizabeth, have you thought of doing a DNA? If will indicate indian ancestry but does not give you the tribe, and as you know tracing females are are more difficult, her ancestry is from ARK & TN its possible she is part cherokee.
--------------------------------------------------------------
1880 census
Name:	Rolley Hendrick
Age:	37 Birth Year:	abt 1843
Birthplace:	Tennessee
Home in 1880:	Cypress, Phillips, Arkansas
Race:	Black
Relation to Head of House:	Self (Head)
Marital Status:	Married
Spouse's Name:	Lizabeth Hendrick/19/1861/ARK/ARK/TN
Father's Birthplace:	Tennessee
Mother's Birthplace:	Tennessee
Occupation:	Farmer
Household Members:
Name Age
Rolley Hendrick 37
Lizabeth Hendrick 19/1861
Annie Hendirck 6/1874/ark
Clem Hendrick 5/1875
Emmit Hendrick 2/1878
--------------------------------------------------
1870 census
Name:	Rolly Hendrick
Age in 1870:	27
Birth Year:	abt 1843
Birthplace:	Tennessee
Home in 1870:	Cypress Ridge, Monroe,Arkansas
Race:	Mulatto
Post Office:	Cypress
Household Members:
Name Age
Rolly Hendrick	27
-------------------------------------
Found this on a Rolly Hendrix is it the same man?

1900 census
Name:	Rolly Hendrix
Age:	60
Birth Date:	May 1830
Birthplace:	Tennessee
Home in 1900:	Cypress, Phillips, Arkansas
Race:	Black
Relation to Head of House:	Head
Marital Status:	Married
Spouse's Name:	Bell Hendrix/age 43/1857/Ark
mother of 13 - 10 living
Marriage Year:	1870
Years Married:	30
Father's Birthplace:	Virginia
Mother's Birthplace:	Virginia
Occupation:	View on Image
Household Members:
Name Age
Rolly Hendrix	60/1830
Bell Hendrix	43/1857
Junius Hendrix	20/1880
Oliver Hendrix	18/1882
Blanch Hendrix	15/1885
Carrie Hendrix	10/1890
Hattie Hendrix	5/1895
Vashti Hendrix	8/1892
Jack Hendrix	6/1894
James Hendrix	1/1900
-------------------------------------------------------
This would fit as you say Lizabeth died in 1913.
1920 census
Name:	Rolly Hendrix
Age:	80
Birth Year:	abt 1840
Birthplace:	Tennessee
Home in 1920:	Cypress, Phillips, Arkansas
Race:	Black
Relation to Head of House:	Head
Marital Status:	Widowed
Father's Birthplace:	Tennessee
Mother's Birthplace:	Tennessee
Home owned:	Rent
Able to read:	No
Able to Write:	No
Household Members:
Name Age
Rolly Hendrix 80
Almon Hendrix 23/1897
James Rolly Hendrix	19/1901
-----------------------------
Good luck in your search

Hi, I went to Findagrave.com and checked out the cemetery. It is listed but has no burials listed. I would suggest that you go to that website and make a request for a picture of the grave site of whoever you are searching for. Volunteers go take pictures when request are made. Another possibility would be to contact the local funeral homes. They should have a record of those they buried in the cemetery. Good luck on your search.

BTY, Wells Bayou was named for my family who lived there. There are still distant relatives living in the area.

Mary Wells Webb

Correction... Marriage of Nancy Heather and W. B. Smith was in CRAWFORD County, 7/3/1844. I also notice on a 1910 census printed out this morning that it shows "BULLARD & Hickory Plains" townships as residence for Nancy and children. (changes in caps)

Thanks. So far I'm not finding anything with Heather in US census in 1880 or prior. She was 19 and he was 24 when married. First child born October 1884 (Minnie L Smith). Just wish that 1890 census info was still available... Not sure where to go from here. Any ideas?

Yes, the handwritten 1900 census form does look like Jesse, but when I print it out it says Jane. I did find a marriage between a W. B. Smith and Nancy M. Heather in 1884 and I think that was Prarie County... can't find the printout just now. Might need to send off for that marriage certificate info. Wish the 1890 census info was available. It also looks like Nancy moved and/or remarried between 1900 and 1910. Thanks for your assistance!

Corrections on the children: Minnie was 15, Annie 13, and the youngest child is Jane T. It's Nancy Smith's husband's first name I am trying to find. My message sounds like it's Annie Smith's husband's first name that is missing. I have his (my grandfather), just not great grandfather Smith.

This would be my g-grandmother. It says she was 33 and a head-of-household with five children: Minnie L age 13 or 18?, Annie P (15 at that time), William W age 10, Samuel S age 8, and Jesse T age 5. It says she and all the children were born in Arkansas, her parents both born in Tennessee. Annie P married my grandfather Melvin Vassar on July 5, 1902. I do not know her maiden name nor her husband's first name. Any info will be appreciated.
