I am looking for the parents of Robert C. Barnett, b. about 1851 in Arkansas. The family story is his father died in the Civil War and his mother (supposedly full or part Indian)died before or during the war. The family had a plantation which was burned by the Union soldiers. Robert and his sister (Martha? or Margaret?) were hidden in the woods by a slave until the soldiers left. He and his sister were taken in by a relative...possibly their father's sister. Some of the names associated with the family were : Jackson, Wheeler, Black, Johnson, Little, and Miller. Robert ran away approx. at the age 12 and rode the cattle trails. He shows up in Texas in 1880 in the Floresville area. Any information on his parents or sister would be greatly appreciated. You may contact me at
