Knox Lee, a former Lawyer from Alabama.......

Knox killed my GGGrandfather on Bakers Butte in July of 1887 for many resaons...some make sense some don't. John Behan of Tombstone fame, and the Territorial Prison Warden, released Knox after serving 16 months of a six year sentence. Yes, it makes no sense for murder but there are other factors...like my GGGrandfather was 'just a Mexcian ' and Andres was a Constable who had arrested Knox years earlier. Knox Lee has dissappeared from any records, unless you might know ? $10,000.00 also vanished from the til at Yuma Prison.....imagine that ? Any assistance will be appreciated.

Andres and Delfina Moreno lived in St. Johns, Az as did many freighters working for the scoundral, Soloman. He gave them homesteaders land rights then sold those rights to the moving in Mormans....the Romneys, Flakes and others. Andres worked for Soloman from 1872 thru 1876-1877 when he was forced to move to Globe area. I think he had three daughters and a wife, Delfina at the time. It's all History now, but if you know of it, Please, let's chat.

Since you're also interested in tracing the Martinez family history yourself, you need to identify this particular family with markers that show up in public records. (There is more than one Martinez family in New Mexico and Arizona.) These markers include, for each individual, full name, date of birth (DOB), birthplace, places lived (where and when), marriage date and place, spouse name and DOB, date of death. Naturally you may not have all this information, simply post what you can.

A family is easier to spot in the records than an individual.

The starting point is Sam's parents and/or Sam's grandparents (maternal and paternal).

Too bad. I was hoping one of those would show the house had been transferred to someone else. There are a couple of obits on legacy.com for Stayers in Arizona that you might try if you haven't already. If he's not shown as a survivor that might be a clue.

Most Phoenix deaths are published in the Republic and I think all Republic obits are transferred to legacy but maybe not permanently.

I suppose someone could call the phone number to inquire though I understand why that might not be desirable.

Thank you Connie.. I researched all these things too and came up with nothing! This is the first person that I have ever come up with and can't find anything on him after the 1940 census except where he lives in Phoenix..Or did live. His children were told that he had died but no proof of that.

there is not a ssdi listing for him [which does not mean he didnt die]
on findagrave there is a photo of the headstone for him and Betty [who died in 1996] it only shows his birthyear of 1933
the only other records are the 1940 census and the addy showing him living where you indicate in Phoenix

Ada Heaven was my Great Aunt and she disappeared under strange circumstances when the family lived in Illinois.

Nothing was heard from her after about 1924. Walter married Illa after being granted a divorce on the grounds of desertion.

The family have never been able to find out where Ada went or if she ever made contact again with her children.

My Dad Kelly Garcia had relatives named Gregorio Garcia and had a brother named Monico Garcia who married a lady with the last name Hunt. They are mentioned in the St. Johns' museum. I think that Gregorio had a son named Jimmy Garcia, who was also an attorney in Phoenix, Arizona. My nino Jimmy baptized me. From what I remember he was married to a Mormon lady named Pat. I was only 11 when my father Kelly Garcia died. Also my sister-in-law is married to a Tony Chavez from St. Johns Arizona.

I am descended from your great grandfather's (William M. Felker and Minnie Jackson) sister Stella Felker Healy Robertson. I have no connection to any of the descendants but would like to connect to find death date and burial location of William Felker to order a death certificate. My Grandmother Sally gave me the Maletta but that was only from her memory & so could be spelled incorrectly.

In 1940 there were two Croly families in Arizona.

In Phoenix were:
A G, age 51, born Missouri
Dorothy, 29, Oklahoma
Delbert, 3, Arizona
Reynolds, Delant, step-son, 12, Oklahoma

In rural Pima County were:
John T, 29, b New York
Ellen, 29, b New Jersey
In 1935, they were living in New Haven, CT

There were several Crowley families, as well as Crawley.

So, the question would be: "where was Tommy born" and where did you get the information on the name.

I don't find Tommy (or reasonable variant) McCluskey in the 1940.

I also don't find "Tommy" or "Baby Boy" in the Arizona Birth Records for 1935. There appears to be no "Croley" or "Crawl*" births with Maletta as a mother.

I did find an SSDI reference to Tommy McCluskey, b 29 Oct 1935, d 28 Dec 1997, last residence, Georgia. This Tommy got his SS card in Arizona bef 1951.

I did find a Mirella Crawley/Crowley, b ca 1899, in Arizona, living with her widowed mother, Ella, and brother Benedict E, 22, in Los Angeles in 1920. Probably not the same, as she is "Morella" in 1910, mother Elyse, brothers William and Brainard, living in Phoenix.

Looking for Croley in earlier censuses, there are two. In 1920 there may be two, Charles P, a lodger living in Holbrook, Navajo County, and a family in Alma, Maricopa County. Both, however, are pretty well spelled Cooley, so I doubt it. No "Maletta" though.

With the "Crawl*" spelling, there are quite a few, but again, no "Maletta".

If you have any further information that we could use as clues, let us know.
