May have found my ancestor uncle William White Creighton in the 1880 census of Tucson where he is listed as W. W. Creighton, a journalist, editor, at C.... per the FamilySearch CD's, widower b. PA, age 37. Since there is a family story that he died in 1885, I want to target his last 5 years, which may have been spent in Tucson. William Creighton is probably the father of the child Neva Pearl Creighton living with her grandmother Susan White Creighton in Phila. in 1880.
Since I live in NJ, was wondering if anyone could help me with:
What newspaper would William W. Creighton have worked for in 1880? Any that started with C......? Is there anyone with access to the census film who can tell me what the rest of C..... says?
What cemeteries were there in 1885 that I could check with for his burial?
Any biographical or directory sources I should check to locate him?
Happy to hear from any Creightons with ancestry in Pennsylvania as I don't know whether there were any male children of this relative.
Hope someone will take pity on this NJ resident so that perhaps I can start doing the genealogy happy dance.
