Thank you for all of the information and the time it took you to respond to my query!
I am not sure how the Candelaria family is connected to Benito Baca yet, but believe that they are in some way. I am unsure if it is through a wife, one of his daughters, or his parents somehow.
In a newspaper article I found regarding his death it basically states -
St. John's Herald, PG 4, 4th of December 1897
Benito Baca, oldest resident of Apache County, died Monday last at his residence in Concho. Nearly 100 years old, made his home with his daughter and died at home.
The 4th of December 1897 was the first Saturday of the month. If he died the Monday before that would make his date of death Monday, November 29th 1897. (On findagrave the date posted is 1902, but there is no headstone, unsure how they got that date, and I have found no death certificate for him on the Arizona website)
It also states that he was related to most all Baca's that were in the area as well as ALL of the Candelaria family in the area.
It does not give his daughters name that he was living with or the relationship with the Candelaria family.
I was curious if the information in the book would help me to establish some of the relationships I am having trouble establishing. Like between the Baca/Candelaria family. The names of Benito's wives.. I believe he was married twice, one to a Maria and the second to a Gertrudis Garcia.. there are Garcia youngsters living with him at one point, unsure if these children are step children from Gertrudis or perhaps Nieces and Nephews of hers. One Birth record I found for a son Feliz of Gertudis and Benito's has her name as Garcia.. but that would be a maiden name.. so why would the children have a name of Garcia and not of their father in the census I found? Three reasons; they were born out of wedlock so had their mothers maiden name; they were nieces and nephews; their mother's married name was Garcia from a first marriage, and this was not her maiden name and a mistake was made in the birth record. I have seen a first marriage name for Benito Baca on some ancestry trees as a Tafoya.. but I do not know the source of the information.
I am a descendent of Benito Baca's through his son Fernandez. Fernandez Baca is found in his father's home in Cubero, NM in 1850 and 1860 census' and his next door neighbor in San Mateo in 1870 census. I then find Fernandez in Agua Fria 1880, then one of his children were born in Concho, Arizona around 1885 according to that childs death certificate, but I lose any paper trail of Fernandez after that 1880 census. I do not find a birth certificate for the child that was supposedly born in Concho on the Arizona website.
That about sums it up! :o)
