I have a cousin who will be traveling to Apache County, leaving Wisconsin about Jan 23. We are researching Peter Paquette who was the superintendent at the Navajo Agency at Fort Defiance in the early 1900's. Also his sister, Mary Ann Paquette who was a matron at the school there at the same time and married Burris N. Barnes who was supposed to be a government stock inspector and may have been involved in the Indian trade. Also a niece Dora (Winnie) Paquette Balcomb who died in 1950 at the Hubbell's Trading Post at Ganado and was also in the Indian trade--she was the ex-wife of George Spencer Balcomb who was said to be a trader. Another person of interest was Peter's nephew Samuel Moses Paquette who worked at the school at Fort Defiance and was said to be in the Indian trade.
We would like to make contact with anyone in the area who is known to be a local historian/genealogist or who might have access to any information about these people.
We are also searching for the cemetery where two children with surnames Paquette and Balcomb who died about 1915 at Fort Defiance and appear to have been buried locally would be buried.
I would appreciate any suggestions on who to contact for research help. Thanking you in advance, Linda
