I'm looking for information regarding my grandfather, Robert J. Zilkey. He lived the last 20 years of his life in Wrangell, died there January 1932. I would like to know where he's buried.

Laura, I am looking for any information about the name Zilkey. I recently discovered that my grandfathers name was Fritz Zilkey. Our name is McZilkey. Fritz Zilkey was born in 1869 and came to this country in 1871. He died in McDuffie County GA in 1907. Do you have any information about the origin of the name? If you have found anything in your seach that may help me please pass it along, and I will do the same for you.

Are you acquainted with Mary McZilkey Heriot? I believe her grandfather's name was Frtiz McZilkey. And, no I don't know anything about the name, either.

No I don't know her. I have never heard of any McZilkeys other than my family. Do you know how I can get in touch with her?

I am part of Wrangell's Genealogy-Cemetery Committee. We have a Robert Zilkey buried in Wangell Memorial Cemetery Lot 225 Plot 1

When we did the survey the name was the only information on the audit card. If you still need Wrangell info, contact me.

The records I have searched here are for a Robert Ziekie or Zihkey (which is a typo index I am sure).

I looked at our DEATH CERTIFICATE BOOK, WRG MEMORIAL CEMETERY AUDIT NOTES AND WRG CITY BURIAL PERMITS and found the variation of spelling but no dates or explainations of death and no readable headstone.

Wrg Genealogy Society is always happy to assist in searching the above records. If you would want us to go into the newspaper microfish, we would like to ask for a modest donation as the job is time consuming and we are all volunteers.

Please let us know if you feel there is a connection between Robert Ziekie Ziekey of Wrangell and want a newspaper search. Also does the Ship wreck Lady Elgin 1932 have anything to do with Robert Ziekie of Wrangell.? If so it certainly should be mentioned in the news of the day.

Happy Hunting, Barbara

Here's info to an item about his death. I don't know if you have that info or not:
ZILKEY, ROBERT 1/27/1932
02/12/1932 1:3 WS
74 YRS OLD; "CANOE BOB"; HOME NEAR CITY PARIS
The second date and numbers is the date that the info was published in the Wrangell Sentinel on page one, column three. You can obtain a copy from the Irene Ingle Public Library through Inter=Library loan or just writing to them directly.
