Ron- first of all, I hope to learn half of your tricks someday! I really appreciate the time you took to research my Amy mystery. Dean, her (half?) brother, was my g-grandfather.
I have tracked her in every federal census 1880-1940. In 1880 she was Emmy Mitchel (2 yrs old) with her mother Frederika living with Christian Ladewig, her grandfather, in Dane Co. WI. She was listed as being born in MN, and her mother was widowed at 25. That is why I believe her birthyear to be 1877. I apologize for the incorrect information in my original post. I have no idea who Mr. Mitchel is.
Plus, Henry's 1st wife, Electra, died in April 1877 in Middleton, WI. Someone from another post happened upon her obituary and sent it to me, otherwise I would've found that out. So she's probably not Henry's child.
The reason Amy is so important to me is that I recently discovered 2 letters that she wrote in 1942 to her (half) brother and sister, Harry & Edna. She was living in Alaska, but "couldn't come home" to WI because the state of WI couldn't find a record of her birth. She mentions "because of the war" she needs one to leave. Here she grew up believing she was born in WI to Henry and Frederika. When I thought about her "stuck" up there and all alone, it made me want to figure out where she really came from, how and when she got to AK, and where she rests now.
That's why I was hoping for an obituary. Oh well.
Thank you for the new resources to search (WA and AK archives), and historical information to research (Idaho marriages, Thure's surname). I'm off to research Amy's children and figure out this Thure guy.
