I hope you are still on here. I am in BC, on Vancouver Island, and have direct Wrangell and Stikine ancestors. I have been searching for ties for many years now. Our HBCo surname (the family name given to my branch)from that era was the name of Johnson. I had found it was quite a familiar surname in Wrangell. I had no luck finding a connection, so far with anyone today. But I am close to information on a branch of my tree from Washington State. The branch surname I am looking for from Alaska and Washington State is the surname of Borger. I have evidence that my great great grandmother had a sister who married into the surname of Borger. My great great grandmother was married into the Rosman surname and she settled on a farm just outside Victoria, BC by 1854-55. So in British Columbia my surname on that maternal branch is "Rosman", and her first name was Mary. Mary Rosman was born in Wrangel, Alaska in the 1830's. She too may have Russian blood I am told, as red hair and auburn hair run in the family, from this branch, even today. I am looking for anyone related to the Borger line to make connections and share history. The last known connection to the Borger's was my grandmother's generation. Postcards were mailed back and forth, between the Washington State Borger line and my maternal grandmother, this would have been in the teen era of the 1900's. I had found a Joe Borger in Port Blakely. I am possative this is my tie to the same tree as mine. Joe Borger was a gold miner in the Klondike era. He went up to the Yukon and Alaska to find gold. He was somewhat successful as he mailed my grandmother a package of gold via the mail system and she got it! Those gold nuggest are still in our family today!! So, Joe Borger's line....when I dug in it, I saw the First Nations connections to Wrangell via his mother's line. I was so happy to find that, but since then the line has grown cold, while I wait for someone to find that here in Ancestry (I had posted some messages). I was happy to read your posting here, and maybe, who knows there may be a connection, as we have a similar tale of Wrangell, Alaska, British Columbia, Vancouver Island and the islands of Washington State.
